I've only known Paul and Roy since earlier this year, but I did lots of business with their father many many years ago. Given the successful relationship I had in the past, I determined to use them again for a retirement hot rod project involving a type 1 VW. I ordered a turnkey engine and transmission, with some custom modifications, and throughout the project I have been extremely satisfied with the responsiveness, professionalism and attention to detail in all of my concerns. Do not, do not order, purchase a long block here...listen to me. Nov 16 of 22 I ordered/purchased a 1600cc VW long block after watching the youtube video...very impressive. Fooled me. The website says to expect 16/21 weeks before they start on an engine...But, it never gives a completion date. So, about 4/5 months later I asked for a finish date. "We are running a little behind, same answer a few months later. Then they blame the delay on covid. Advertise...we have orders from all over the world! Nine months later...no engine, "We are running a little behind". I received a pic of my finished order with the Empi Dist installed...Black cap. I also rec'd a pic of my engine being hot run...then I noticed a different Dist on the engine red cap. Before the hot run, I said I wanted zinc added for the hot run. The hot run shows oil pressure low, this is concerning. Hot run was delayed..raining...huh! Seems as tho they cannot run outside when it is raining...no vent from inside...and they are filling orders worldwide. I asked if zinc was used in the run..."We use 30w oil". A no answer for sure. I cnl'd my order and a restocking of $600 was deducted from my $3500 order. Said refund thru PP. No PP, it took a month for the check to get here. Ending: Why was my dist not used during the hot run? My engine or another?? Why only hot runs if wx permitting? The 1 year warranty, you have to pay shipping back to them, about $350.00, god only knows when you'll get it back...you have to pay to ship it back to you. DO NOT GIVE MOFOCO YOUR MONEY! They'll take it and string you along with lies and excuses. They promised my engine would be finished in 16-20 weeks, and it's now been over 2 years since I paid for it. If I receive it at all, I wouldn't trust it to have been built well; and I'm sure they won't honor the 12 month warranty. My story isn't unique, they've done the very same to hundreds of people. They made these 16-20 week promises, knowing they had no engine cases or bearings, and no means of getting them. read more

I chose to have MOFOCO build the engine for my 1952 MG replica back in 2021. Like all businesses during the pandemic, they were affected by supply chain issues and employee retention issues as well. But they were always good about keeping me informed on where they were at on parts availability and my position on their build list. As completion neared, they worked with me on the logistics end and arranged shipping even after the original plans went sideways. I went with this company because of recommendation through people in my VW club as well as locally owned businesses that have done business with them in the past. And I would again. Thanks for the fabulous engine and customer service, guys! These times have created huge logistical challenges for business in this country and patience really pays off in the long run. read more

Do not do business with this company. I ordered stock heads from this company. went months past their promise delivery date and never delivered anything but excuses. Eventually cancelled order after 5 months. Now it has been almost another month after I cancelled order and still no refund on my credit card. Poor business practices and customer service! read more

This is a follow up review and is only supplying factual information that I expierenced. Please read my first post from Kim W. and I will catch you up. I was forced to take Mofoco to smalls claim court and through all the court wrangling I finally received an engine. He missed the deadlines told to the judge in the case as well. Of course, first thing I noticed was the distributor. ( I ordered electronic ignition and paid extra for this ) it had points and was not one with vacuum advance. I decided to take it in and have it checked out by a very qualified business that specializes in VW's. They found some built in defects, namely the crankshaft pulley was installed crooked and the threads were stripped. I believe Roy H. being such a self proclaimed expert must have done this intentionally. The carburetor was missing linkage, screws were missing and loose holding the tin together, the valve covers were warped and had double gaskets installed to hold back the oil and the cover clips were strung and bent , along with the incorrect distributor. I paid to have all of this corrected and asked Roy H. to send me the $70.00 for the electronic Ignition upgrade, but has so far not done so. It took 84 weeks to receive a defective engine after taking it to court. I did receive a judgement for my court filing fees and serving fees which he has not paid either. I may decide to amend my judgement and ask for the $70.00 plus my expenses of $1000.00 to have Mofoco defects repaired. New Mexico Court Case M-45-CV-2023-00540. here is a rule I received from the Wisconsin State Dept. of Agriculture and Consumer Protection Dept. The Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule, 16 CFR Part 435, requires sellers to ship items by the time they promise or, if no delivery time is stated, within 30 days after order date. If the seller cannot ship the goods within the stated time frame or 30-day deadline, the seller must notify you, give you a chance to cancel your order and send a full refund if you have chosen to cancel. The seller also has the option of cancelling your order and refunding your money. My personal view of Mofoco and Roy H is they are very bad to deal with, vindictive and quite frankly not as good as the profess to be. They state that they have built 1000s of engines , but my experience is they couldn't do one properly and in the time frames they stated over and over. Buyer beware. Kim W. read more

If you want your money taken hostage for months with no return for your dollars, this is the place to go. I ordered a motor mid June in 2021. I started calling to find out where my order was and when it may ship. I received nothing but excuses. I continued to call about once a month and continued to receive the same excuses. I called after the one year mark my order was placed and was told by Roy, "the boss", that my motor was the oldest on his list and would be ready to ship Thursday that week. That phone call was over five weeks ago and no motor. When I call I am told Roy is not there and he would call me back. I never get a call back. read more

On November 17, 2023 I ordered parts from this company. All normal standard parts, nothing special. $1,500.00. the salesperson indicated that the parts would arrive a few weeks after i order them. after a few weeks i contacted them and asked about the parts. they were rude. some time later, now 9 weeks later, i called and asked about the parts. they said they were delayed. i complained about the delay, (I am a repair shop and my client getting impatient too). they said they were offended by me and said that they told me to never call them again. So i disputed the charges with my bank they took the money back from them. I ordered the parts from someone else. After the parts from someone else arrive, then i get a box from Mofoco with PART of the order/not even the full order. they had filed a dispute against my dispute and sent me some of my order and gave the bank the tracking number as proof of delivery. I haven't done anything with their box and they need to take it back. these people are scammers. They will take your money and sell your parts to someone else and then after you file a dispute with the bank, they will send you a partial order and pocket the rest of the money. Scammers!!! Don't do business with these people. I sent over $3000 to buy an new engine and its been a YEAR now and when I call all I get is excuses and telling me "Im moving up the list" They don't return call, rarely return emails and when I call I get pushback and rudeness from everyone I've talked too. From the calls Ive made it sounds like lots of people are giving them grief for their poor service and lack of follow-up. I can't even get a date when my engine will be built much less shipped to me. I know there are supply issues out there but if they cant deliver promises to their customers then they should STOP taking orders until they catch up because after paying 3000 dollars Im between a rock and a hard place and can't go to someone who will actually deliver. * hired Roy Henning to build turn key engine and replace transmission * paid $5075 for the engine and $1300 for the transmission * was paid on August 7th, 2013 and engine and transmission to be done in 6 weeks * shipped them my car for the install fist week of October 2013 * engine build was neverstarted until after November * December I asked for a full refund, they declined * January I was told my car would be done by the end of the month * February I was demanded to pay an addition $1450 to finish the job or else..... * March sent Roy $1450 in a money order to finish * April Roy says he has problem and will let me know * My transmission will not shift to 1 or 2, reverse lock out wont work car only shifts 3 and 4. * Engine will not stay running. I paid Mofoco, Roy Henning over $7800 for a new engine and transmission installed in my car and now it don't run and can't drive it. I waited over 8 months for a 6 week job. My car drove fine over 1300 miles from Nebraska to Oregon in July of 2013 to a car show winning three awards. The car sat near the pond for a 7 day period and when I went to drive home, the engine overheated in about two hours of driving time. I searched for a way to get car home, rented U-Haul truck and tow dally and came home. Found 5 companies that rebuild engine. I choose Roy because he said he would remove and replace engine and transmission for the labor of $750. So I agreed and paid for the engine and transmission in full and then shipped him my car 8 weeks later hoping to have my car back in a few days. Shipping cost $1000 from Henry NE to Milwaukee WI. Roy Henning has not kept up with his end of the deal. The deal was to have a new turn key engine test run and ready for install when the car got there along with a rebuilt transmission. It should have only taken a day or two to remove and reinstall and test drive car. Roy Henning complained that I was at fault, everything I said is a lie, and he wanted $100 per hour for custom work to remove and install a VW engine and transmission. I sent Roy pictures of my car, the engine and engine bay, the transmission and axles so he knew what he was receiving. My car is a VW pan with a fiberglass body bolted to it. So it is mostly all 1970's VW remove and replace. Roy has sent me aggressive emails, held my car hostage, charged me for parts and labor with out a written estimate up front, may have used my engine as a rebuild and not a new case build, rebuilt my transmission and it will not work, the engine will not stay running at idle. I feel that I need a full apology for all the accusations, and a refund for not completing the job as stated. Roy has also had the nerve to charge me $20 per day for storage if I did not pick up the car with in 10 days of him stopping work on it. So my truck driver picked up the car on 5.16.2014 and paid Roy $100 for storage. I should be charging Roy $20 per day for the six months he had the car over and above the contract dates. I will have added expenses to have the car looked at and fixed correctly to make it drivable. Beware, don't do business with this person. read more
