The grounds were very well kept, the bathroom was always clean, and the family that runs the place was so nice and helpful. There are some nice hiking trails that branch off the campgrounds as well, just watch out for horse poop! Thankfully we lucked out and we didn't get rained on but this place was still pretty busy. Depending on when you show up parking can be a bit Limited. The trails to the top is not too long either but the interaction is so long and breathtaking. I've never been to a park since I've been to Matheson State Park where you are able to climb on every little thing. The views here and the experience is unlike any other. It felt like I was back in the Smoky Mountains but with less tourists. They have public restrooms here as well though if there's a line it could take a while. Me and my wife spent a good few hours here and if you follow the trail it will take you right back to the parking lot. We also enjoyed that this place is also dog friendly too!

Glad we went the route we did which is to the right as opposed to the left. I also liked that the multiple or compiled sandstones was the last we saw as opposed to the first, like a grand finale. And then the gradual decline on the way down to complete the circle. This is a very quick route where you can see the famous camel rock actually many of the rocks look like faces ;)

Full hook ups and normal worked great. 4. We were only pass through as we were in for an archery tournament. The site we were on was a fresh build and had not been packed so the camper settled when we backed in and I had to pull up to add a couple Of blocks to back up on. Th site was level enough to use auto leveling but I went ahead and hooked back up and added the blocks just in case it settled anymore. We basically just slept there.

They still have full hook-ups. The ground are well-kept and have statues carved from wood around the site - Rocky (from Bullwinkle, not the boxer ); Abraham Lincoln; and a rooster on top of a pig on top of a horse - not kidding. Oh, and there are real roosters and hens walking around. Super cool! The sites are gravel and level with fire rings. While the campground is very quiet, there is interstate noise at night - be aware. Also, there seems to be a waste water treatment facility nearby - the occasional funk is not so amazing. Great for an overnight stay or a long weekend away with the kids, especially once the pool opens back up.

Somehow we were missing our water hose and Rick offered to loan us his to fill up our tank AND he offered to pick one up at WalMart that night (we gave him money, of course). If you follow my camping adventures, you know that I'm not usually fond of camp hosts. Seriously, I've run into a few doozies in my days. We arrived on a Saturday in May and the RV sites with hookups were full, but we scored a spacious primitive site big enough for our RV AND truck. The primitive sites are was somewhat wooded and private, but the spots on both sides of us were empty, which gave an illusion that it was somewhat private. We loved this campground and the lake so much, we stayed an extra night and all day the next day, Monday. Our neighbor said that the hosts are lenient on weekdays unless someone has the site booked, they don't mind if we check out later. This time, on Sunday, people were checking out and there were plenty of sites available with water and electric hookups. We had a phenomenal site this time, #51 but #52 was better. Also, the campground favorite is apparently #60, but I wouldn't recommend it due to the location being in the path of the boats and trucks using the ramp. Both 51 and 52 were paved black top, which made the rain aftermath not that bad either. THE LAKE!!! I fell in love with Rough River Lake. That's right, move over Nolin River Lake, this holds my title this year. I did hate that you can't swim near the dock... or anywhere around the campground. There's plenty of spots that would be accessible, but there are signs specifically posted 'NO SWIMMING'. The state park is pretty close by though and there is a beach there, if you must get your swim on. Otherwise, fishing is the water activity going on at this campground. There isn't hardly anything close, so come stocked up. The state park lodge has a restaurant and there is a restaurant called 'The Dam', but I wouldn't recommend either one. Robby's Quick Stop about five miles away with basic items in addition to fishing bait. It's about a two hour drive from Lexington, well worth every minutes worth of commute.

Next morning we took a long walk along a nature/Bike trail connecting the park to the campus of university of southern Indiana university. Our dog loved it--she could finally get out and RUN!!! Leaves and weather were gorgeous. While leaving, passed huge swimming pool and AMAZING water slide in another area of park. Closed now (early November), but would be a blast (and probably more crowded) in summer. Highly recommend this place.

Check-in was efficient, and the staff was exceptionally helpful. Throughout our stay, we experienced no issues with the water supply, electrical, or sewage systems. Our pull-through site accommodated our 35-foot trailer without difficulty. While the Wi-Fi, as is common in RV parks, was not optimal for streaming, it was sufficient for basic phone and tablet use. The water had a noticeable chlorine taste, but our in-line filter and Brita pitcher resolved this. Paducah was conveniently located, offering a wider selection of stores and restaurants than anticipated. The campground offered various activities during our visit. Each morning, a vendor sold fresh baked goods, jams, and jellies, which we found to be very good. Mark Cope provided a BBQ wagon, and his BBQ and potato salad were also excellent. The park also hosted an ice cream social and a wine tasting by "Purple Toad Winery," a family-owned winery in Paducah, KY. There is a lake on-site where fishing is available, and bait is sold. We will certainly choose Fern Lake Campground for our next visit.

Staff is friendly and goes out of their way to be helpful. Every lot has a nice scenic view. You have the opportunity to fish and swim at the beach. We enjoy just walking around the campgrounds. The campground is dog friendly, and all dogs are on a leash or small pen. We are looking forward to many more visits here. The Grizzell.

Brought out 6 year old and 8 year old to camp for the weekend. Before we knew it we had kids from…read moreseveral other camp sites at our site so my husband brought out the s'mores and began fixing them for everyone. He cut a limb from the tree in our yard for 1 of the boys and all of a sudden a man filming him with a phone started walking towards us yelling at him. This was one of the camp host.My husband explained what he was doing and the man continued to film in in front of all the children and yell about the stick he pulled from the tree. My husband apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. About an hour later about an hour later the refugee police pulled up and said that the man had called him grumbling about the tree. We were ticked and fined. I have read other reviews on the FB website where people have written about this particular camp host.
