If you go early I think the place might be ok. We were rushed out because they didn't want to take care of us anymore. They were only interested in taking care of the bar crowd. It was only 8:30 PM. Literally just had the worst service ever took twenty minutes to get a beer and asked for separate checks when we first sat down and said they couldn't do that and then we asked for the check three times before she actually brought it and then another twenty minutes before she came and grabbed it which she added a gratuity on which is illegal to do especially when two were young kids who didn't even eat. 5 years ago, Moe Joe's was unquestionably my favorite restaurant in the entire Chicago-land area..I live 12 miles away in Naperville, but would gladly make the hike in regularly to enjoy great food, friendly service and a fun New Orleans type atmosphere in a quaint dining room...I recommended this place to anyone who would listen and would often bring friends and family here who had never experienced it..a couple years ago I started to notice a decline across the board - they were doing well, and the restaurant always seemed crowded with overflow heading into the adjacent bar room...the clientele in this bar was young, loud and drunk - and as a result, the atmosphere of the restaurant changed negatively to match it...After three consecutive negative experiences through 2014, I decided to give Moe Joe's a break for a couple years, returning tonight for the first time...sadly, things have declined even more in the last 24 months...the bar was louder than ever with several people totally sh*t faced (and still getting served) - the restaurant floor was filthy and the servers were all over the place..to be truthful, my food was very good (I love the food here), so if you can look beyond all the other stuff, it's still worth a trip...however, when I eat out, I want a nice dining experience, which I no longer think I can get here...this place has become a bar that serves food in the other room instead of a restaurant that has a nice bar in the other room... I wish I could go to moe joes more. But the staff weighs it down. I arrived and stood by the door for 5 minutes, was not acknowledge, so I decided to grab a seat. I sat for 15 minutes before someone came up to me with menus. The food was great! No complaints there. Server was a bit off. What was worse was that I saw my server later that night in her moe joes shirt at a bar just down the street. This place has absolutely amazing louisiana style food. That being said, the service is absolutely awful and so is the atmosphere. It took me and my boyfriend 45 minutes to get our appetizers, mainly because the waitress forgot them. Then another 40 minutes for our main courses. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant and the seating was so close that the waitresses kept bumping into us. The staff constantly rearranging tables around us didn't help matters and repeatedly asking to take our extra chair. The waitress came by twice to refill our drinks during the whole meal and she forgot our side we ordered as well. Definitely not coming back. I am having a really hard time deciding how I feel about Moe Joes. We were really looking forward to going after watching Chicagos Best and also because we like Heaven on Seven in Naperville. We got to Moe Joes about 6:30 on a Saturday. It was crowded and they told us it would be about an hour. We looked around and thought the ambiance was really cool so we said "ok". Waiting area is small. We went into the bar area and ordered a Three Floyds and Left Hand milk stout ($12 for both). We prob waited about 45 min when a four top table opened up at the bar. Our server took our drink orders pretty quickly along with sweet vidalia onion ring with spicy remoulade appetizer order. We received our drinks within 5 mins. Onion rings, which were very good, came out in about fifteen. She hadn't taken our food order yet and didnt stick around to take them even when apps came. About 15 min went by and we stooped her so she could take our order. I got seafood jambalaya, my husband ordered red beans and rice along with a cup of gumbo. Our daughter got a spicy shrimp po' boy and our son got the chick fingers. We sat for at least another hour before our food came. By that time the bar area really was a bar with some pretty drunk people. My seafood jambalaya was hot and good with quite a few shrimp and probably four scallops. My daughters po boy was ok, my husbands red beans and rice were very spicy but not the best he's had. However, their gumbo really was good!! We finally got our $112 check about 9:00. There were no apologies about how long it took. However, we didn't make a big deal about it because it seemed pointless. I really doubt we will return, I like Heaven on Seven better and it's definitely closer. read more

Not impressed. My friend described it to me as kind of like Heaven on Seven (which I adore) and it was most definitely not up to snuff. I got a drink that was called "call a cab" and I asked the server if it was good and she said if you like your drinks to taste like there's a lot of liquor in them. So I was completely forewarned but I would think that it would also taste somewhat good at the same time. Not so much. I got a burger and it came with either fries or a caesar salad and I picked the salad. Not great. You could get corn on the cob on the side (for an additional $2-3 bucks) and it was half an ear and not flavored whatsoever. And my burger was just beyond mediocre. On the upside I don't think it had been some frozen patty but it just was not a good time. Yelp has made me so critical, but too bad. And my friend did not like his meal either (fried chicken po boy). The only good thing was he got what they called "reuben fries" with his dinner and they were basically those butterfly chips you get at carnivals and they were quite good but again, not seasoned at all. I've been to mojoes a handful of times.Its really good. The alligator appetizer is delicious, tastes simpler to chicken but better. They serve warm delicious cornbread with a cinnamon butter that is almost better then the entree itself. I love there burgers,salads,and ham-steak. This place used to be really good, but lately it's been faltering. Corn bread was dry and falling apart so bad I couldn't even hold it in my hand, much less put butter on it. It literally was crumbling to pieces at the slightest touch. Fried oysters look huge but they are all breading and the oyster is about the size of a dime. Also they had no flavor. And also, what's with the obnoxiously loud music for such a small place? I go to heavy metal and death metal concerts pretty often and yet I can't wrap my brain around why the owners think blaring music is a good idea in such a tiny place. ZERO STARS.... Our group of 10 family and friends had the worst customer service ever. One of us ordered jerk chicken and waitress brought out chicken jambalaya. With an attitude, she insisted that we ordered what we ordered and that what she wrote down was always right. After Not wanting to return our food and risk having it treated with the same lack of professionalism we just experienced (to say the least). We simply asked to speak to a manager and were told one was not available. So we left our contact info and needless to say no one has contacted us. That is exactly the level of professionalism we expected... Bottom line, please train your staff to treat customers as they would like to be treated in addition to the most basic customer service motto.... "The customer is always right". Been here a few times, it's not bad if just coming here for a drink however we have been disappointed with the lunch and dinner every time. Last time I ordered the Fried green tomato BLT. There was only bacon on half of the sandwich. The breading on the Fried green tomatoes was overpowering and it was pretty much all you could taste. I ordered a bloody Mary from the bloody Mary bar. And all the condiments looked pretty gross . It was really messy and could have used a utensil to pick the stuff up. I saw the person in front of me using their fingers to pick up the olives, so decided to pass on them. We ordered the fries, which turned out to be potato chips, that tasted burnt. My husband son ordered burgers, and they are both pretty easy to please. They both said they were bland ...the burger itself was bland. They had both choose a lot of toppings on it, so they should have been somewhat favorable. All in all I would say it is more of a place to stop in and get a couple drinks on fat Tuesday. We hadn't been there for a few years. We went in on a Saturday at about 4pm. The place only had a few tables inside full and a few outside. There were a lot of servers! We were greeted nicely and seated promptly, me with a view of the kitchen/back area. Our server arrived at our table. I was interested in a pasta dish and wanted to know if the sauce was creamy or a marinara. Our server said she was new and would ask. She came back out to us and told me what was in it. We placed our order for two beers, our entrees and an appetizer. Our beers came out and later she brought our bread and then a few minutes later brought us water. She didn't come back to our table for quite a long time, but I did see her walking around the back kitchen area, back and forth, back and forth. I also saw a female employee talking on the phone in full view of customers for the ENTIRE time we were there. While we waited, a family of three came in and left after some time without ordering food, the only thing we could think of was no service as we never saw a server appear at their table. After quite a long wait (appetizers never take this long), we finally caught our server ordering another beer and I asked about our appetizer. She said she would check. She came out and trying to be cute was like "oops, you guys are totally going to hate me but I forgot to put it in". It was at this point she made more excuses about being a new employee but obviously she was experienced enough to be waiting her own tables without help. Actually any good waitress would never use that as an excuse and just apologize for the error and try to improve the service going forward. I said cancel it as I knew our food was coming out. Within a couple of minutes our entrees arrived. Mine was a pasta with yellow fin tuna topped with ahi tuna. I didn't see the ahi, but thought perhaps I was mistaken somehow and started eating. A couple minutes later, our server appeared with a small plate she placed on the table. It was my ahi tuna. Her explanation.... "the guys in the back are making fun of me since I forgot this". I would think that a good kitchen staff would be mad about a mistake like that and not having a good laugh over it. After that she made herself scarce and again did not come back to see how we were doing. I felt unwelcomed and unwanted. I remembered a co-worker who went there with her mother and received horrible treatment and left without ordering. Apparently MoeJoe's just wants to be a bar first and a restaurant second. I guess we did not fit the "hip" image this place wants otherwise we should have gotten some sort of response from their Facebook page after we commented on our experience at MoeJoes. My husband and I eat out every Saturday night. We know good service, we are VERY good tippers. The waitress and the majority of the staff didn't really seem engaged or care about what they were doing and they just were goofing around the whole time we were there. I was especially disappointed that someone who appeared to be the manager, who was right there next to us, didn't notice anything and ask about our meal. At no time did the server try to make it up to us, she disappeared and made it clear she didn't want anything to do with the table she screwed up on. I don't need free food, but even an apology would have been nice, not a "oops....I am new now look at how cute I am kind of attitude." Cute isn't getting you a tip, Without a Facebook response and sadly, though the food was quite good, I will not be back. This place was my favorite for so many reasons....but after so many years of going I will never go back to eat. For 5 years I have been going here bringing friends and family, just loved the food,atmosphere,and service. Two years ago the service started getting slow, but that never hurt anything the food made up for it. A year ago prices jumped but the quality has gotten worse. My fiancé and I were just there and boy has the quality gone way down but the prices way up!! Moe Joe's is one of our go-to spots for the summer. They have a dog friendly patio and a doggy menu with several choices for your spoiled pup. I've eaten here four times now and the food is absolutely delicious. The crawfish etuoffe is fresh, creamy, and tastes amazing. We've tried the blackened catfish, a few po boys, and the jambalaya none of which disappointed. If all that wasn't enough, the hurricanes alone are worth going for, they are delicious and very strong so don't plan on driving afterwords! The only reason Moe Joe's didn't get 5 stars for me is because one night I went in a group of 3 and was not seated for over an hour and a half because the girls at the front were very inexperienced and forgot to call our names even though we asked twice where we were on the list. The fried appetizers are also not the best, the onions are sliced a little too thin, but if you like fried pickles, the pickle "chips" are actually just sliced pickle skewers-- they are AMAZING! read more

After 4 times in a row forgetting an item from our carry out order, we stopped ordering for about a year. When I went in tonight I asked for my order taker by name as instructed and the girl said "Can I ask what this is about?" I said that I have a carry out order. She said she would tell her. My husband and I have been going to Moe Joe's for years. The last couple times have not been good. We went last night and were seated immediately in their booth towards the back in a separate area. This would have been fine but the lights were not working so it was very dark. We had to keep the flashlights on our cell phone the whole time. We ordered appetizers the same time as our dinner. Our waiter seemed confused when he took our drink order and our food order and kept skipping people both times. There were only 4 people in our party. It took about 20 for our waiter to bring our cornbread. And we probably waited about an hour for our dinner. Our appetizers came the same time as the rest of our food. I choose to eat our fried gator tail first since it was fried and then ate a few bites of my shrimp ettoufee and gumbo. I was full so I decided to bring my food home. The waiter said he would box everything up for us. He took my husbands food then brought it back boxed up. I gave him mine and he was taking forever to bring it back. We saw him again when he came to get our check and he was like oh I didn't know you wanted it boxed. SERIOUSLY! It was literally my whole meal minus a couple bites. It was at least $30 worth of food. He gave me some corn bread to bring home as a comp. This has been our go to spot when we go out to eat and we will not be back. read more

My wife and I have been here many a times and have pretty much been satisfied!! The food has always been pretty good.. We go to Nawlin's once a year and their Muffeleta is actually better here than in the French Quarter (go figure ;-) It can get pretty busy on weekends but that's pretty normal for a good restaurant/bar ...
