Lindsey Grant is the only person that can give me a great haircut every single time! She is super professional, great to talk to and extremely talented. I got married May-2011 and the wedding dress that I wore was a 1940s white tulle gown. I had no idea what to do with my long hair, but I had some vintage styles in mind. After searching around on the web, I came across Modesty Hair Studio. Others' reviews on Yelp eluded that a vintage flair could be accomplished here. I met up with Song about a month before the wedding and she tried out a few ideas. I loved her honesty...she wasn't willing to give me an updo that's been done a million times on other brides. She too wanted to give me something amazing to go with my vintage dress. After chatting with her a while, she is into all things vintage. What perfect person to create vintage "mane artwork"!?! We had a morning wedding and Song again accommodated the early 7am appointment to work on my hair. I was nervous and tired that morning, but her demeanor is so nice, and that put me at ease. After the 'do was done, I was again impressed with the reasonable price for her services. My hair is pretty darn stubborn to deal with. I received so many compliments on my hair the day of our wedding and it looked spectacular with my dress. Through all of the dancing and driving in our car between the ceremony and reception locations, my hair stayed in place. I couldn't have been happier!!! Most pleasant experience from start to finish. Called looking for a last-minute same day appointment for a cut. Song answered the call and was willing to extend her day to see me (amazing!). She was kind and pleasant, took her time to put thought and care into my cut, and did an awesome job recovering my thin, fine hair from a most awkward undercut grow out. I am agreeing with the 5 stars for Stacey Pridham. I had been to so many places trying to find someone who knew how to undercut hair. That's the technique for people who have fairly straight thick hair or barely wavy hair, where they angle the cut so the hair turns under instead of going into a flip. So many stylists, including pricey stylists, just blunt cut hair. Fail. Stacey is fabulous with this undercutting. She is also great with bangs. She knows how to get them into the right shape so that they do not all bunch up together into a blob. She has also recommended a couple of Kevin Murphy products that really helped my hair. She waited to see how my hair responded to the take-home samples before she tried to sell me anything. Modesty Hair is far from where I live, but it is totally worth it to have Stacey cut my hair. read more

I just moved here so I've been searching for a new hair salon and thankfully the previous yelp reviews led me to try Modesty. I'm not usually adventurous with my hair, but I figured a new city deserved a new hair style. I brought a few pinterst pictures with the textured bangs I was hoping for and Brianne nailed it! She made me look as close to Olivia Wilde as possible. She also made some suggestions about adding texture to the front pieces of my hair so the bangs would blend in. It looks fabulous and I've gotten so many compliments. The prices at the studio are also very reasonable. Brianne's price was $55 and with a yelp check in you get $10 off your first cut. I can't recommend Stacey Pridham highly enough -- she is the BEST at both cutting and coloring hair. She's been cutting my fine, limp, slightly wavy hair for years. Right now it's also over-dyed (from dyeing it twice at home, not having it professionally done) and therefore straight and straw-like, and Stacey still manages to make it look really good. Yesterday she fixed a home-haircut I gave myself that just went wrong; an hour at Modesty with Stacey and I looked cute and stylish instead of weird and frumpy, like before! I wandered in when an appointment fell through at a salon nearby, and they were very nice about fitting me in on a Saturday afternoon. I got a wonderful cut from Shannon, so I was ultimately glad about the snafu at the other place. She really took her time to listen to what I wanted and discuss options, and towards the end of the cut she had me look and see how I was liking it and was happy to adjust where I realized it needed to be a little shorter. My hair is curly/wavy and has a mind of its own, but it has behaved very well since she cut it, and is even less unruly first thing in the morning, when it was previously prone to making such weird formations that it was a little disconcerting looking into the mirror. It usually takes hairdressers a while to figure out my hair, but this was a very good first cut. Normally I wouldn't give a five-star review til I've tried a place several times, but it turns out Shannon also cuts the hair of a co-worker of mine who always looks fabulous. read more

Modesty is a great find--I followed Naomi from Shag because everyone I know asks me who highlights/cuts my hair. She's a color genius and a perfectionist. My husband was scheduled to get his hair cut recently by Naomi but was delayed by work, so Song stepped in to save the day between clients and cut his 'do--it's a great cut and worth every penny. Prices are definitely comparable to any salon in town, and cheaper than many of the ones I have been to in the past. Shannon has been cutting my hair for almost four years and I truly LOVE her! She just does an incredible job. It's very difficult to find a stylist who knows how to do a great short haircut, particularly a proper stacked bob, which she does with skill and artistry. Shannon is Sassoon trained and technically meticulous. I go there looking like disheveled riffraff and leave looking and feeling sexy and gorgeous! Love the gals at Modesty, and going to the salon is now even more amazing in the new studio. The first thing you should know is Naomi and Song take complete care of you and will absolutely make sure you are happy with your look. The second thing is that everything in the salon is eco-friendly, recycled and organic, even the hair is donated to charity. It's truly a fun experience with the mint-green chairs, the antique furniture and hip East Austin neighborhood. I've been going to Naomi for five years and she is amazing! So it seems the beauty industry is a male dominated field when it's women who spend the most on our hair. I have never had a preference for who did my hair as long as it looks fabulous. Finding a stylist that you love is hard, but losing one is like a death. My former stylist got all cracked out or something and I just got tired of following this stylist to a different place every 6-8 weeks. I thought enough is enough and then I found my stylist Naomi 5-6 years ago and have been with her ever since. I love the new place that she is part owner of too. Which I always give my props to women who own their own business. She does my do fabulously and is also a great colorist, which I don't color my hair because I'm not into the maintenance. Tracy has been my stylist for years and I can't speak highly enough about her. Not only is she a gifted stylist who really listens to your needs but she makes the experience fun and relaxing (she gives a mean head massage while she's shampooing). She's sweet, outgoing, and really easy to laugh with. I've had many stylists before who have been inattentive and make the experience uncomfortable. I'm really glad I've found a stylist that I adore so I don't have to keep hopping around from disappointment to disappointment! She's really creative too so I can sit back and put my hair in her capable hands and know it's going to come out great.
