Decided to try acupuncture for the first time and take advantage of a wonderful introductory offer from them. The front desk personal, Dee, (forgive me if I screwed up her name) was super friendly. The environment was peaceful, quiet and clean. You can tell that they are taking care of all the necessary sanitary procedures. Dr. Avery was amazing. She took the time to understand all of my ailments and even asked me about things I didn't even consider. I sat in a massage chair where I was in control of the heat and incline while they played a relaxing video. Dr. Avery explained exactly what to expect in terms of the sensations, etc. She asked me how I was doing and of course, if there was any discomfort. After the treatment, unlike other establishments, I was not pressured in anyway to sign up for a membership which I truly appreciated. They simply shared the options and provided me with the walk in costs. Everyone can benefit from acupuncture especially here since they accept walk ins. Extremely disappointed I showed up to a closed establishment, and I had a membership. Never given notice about closing. I had a ton of roll over appointments left over and some pre paid vitamin shots. I feel bad for the amazing acupuncturist and infusion staff. I hope they have jobs. I really had an amazingly relaxing time at the Modern Acupuncture. The atmosphere was relaxing I felt like I was on vacation. When I thinking about my experience it was something I would typically do had I been on vacation. With so many locations I can squeeze in a nice relaxing session after work before returning home. The ambiance, music, and vacation scenes on their large screen televisions added to the experience. I have been going there since it opened. They are such a great team, it is super clean, give great service and super easy to book appointments. I go about 20 times a month, I have NEVER had a bad experience. While it is a group room, it feels very intimate and private. The ambiance is perfect, and you get to watch some AMAZING video of beautiful cities. It is very calming and have helped me with MANY issues and flare ups. This place is amazing! I have chronic pain and muscle tension, and I was skeptical of acupuncture but was at my wit's end and decided to give it a try. Laura is a fantastic acupuncturist - she's calming, she listens, and she makes the needles generally painless. I feel like I'm floating when I leave. I appreciate the ease of scheduling appointments by app, and I also like that I can just walk in without an appointment. The chairs are comfortable and the music is soothing. The customer service at this location was not a pleasant experience. They seem to have a lot of turnover of receptionists and the manager here is extremely passive aggressive. I stressed my concerns with them changing their lunch hour and refusing service 30 minutes prior to their lunch. So I wasted a trip to this location multiple times because they changed hours and give no updates of that on their website. It's supposed to be a walk in friendly business but hearing "sorry we're going to lunch in a half hour so we can't serve you" doesn't seem like a good business model nor what this business wants. I'm now being overcharged monthly and I am going to have to file with the BBB and open a complaint with my credit card company to get more than $200 back in bad charges. On 7/8 I moved my son to their mission plan which saves your visits but doesn't add any extra They are now charging me the mo they fee plus his mission plan fee. I called on 8/28 to see why I was being charged for both and the front desk person lied and said I didn't come in and swap him until 8/5. I checked with my bank and it was a month earlier. I've been charged the $50 plus $20 now for 5 months and they just won't stop. I called 9/10 and was told someone would call me back. No call I called 10/10 and was told someone would call me back. The place was nice and clean, and it definitely had a new modern aesthetic to it. I came because I was having some lower back pain, neck pain, knee pain, and headaches. They had nice sitting place and had free WiFi which I have used to get some of my work done. When she came back after getting treated she is like I liked it and I want to schedule for some more session. They said you can't see result in one sitting you need a few more sittings. The practitioners are congenial and competent, but the subscription process is designed to keep you paying and paying. For example, during Covid my membership was on freeze. Then they closed down the facility. A few months later they started charging me for service again. I objected to the charge for a closed facility during Covid. I asked them to cancel it since I hadn't been there in months and the facility was closed. They told me I should find another location and go there. If I wanted to cancel I would be charged for the last month and another month. No allowance for closed facility or Covid. This is all according to the legal release forms signed online. I was enraged when they told me it was illegal to refund my money and cancel my membership. Quote "Without these forms filled out, legally, Modern Acupuncture cannot stop your account." I doubt that is strictly true. I never heard of a refund being illegal. Quote "If you prefer to cancel we can do that, we will need you to fill out a cancellation form linked below this email. You will have 30 days after cancellation to use any saved up visits & per your monthly agreement you will be billed one final time. Please let us know what you'd like to do by filling out either link below." If you must join for the cheaper rate remember there are surprise charges at the end which increase your cost. For example, my six 'free' visits would cost me $160. But I can't use them. Still have to pay $160... I'm 70 yrs old and obey CDC guidelines. The interior is well done but as far as acupuncture goes this is the McDonalds version. They try to upsell your membership, The blonde front desk girl is like a very pushy used car salesman and wouldn't stop talking after our "treatment". On another occasion, I was blamed for needles falling out and then the practitioner accused me of, hiding one? I don't know it was all very strange. I did community acupuncture every week when I lived in Austin and I never felt rushed or like an inconvenience and I definitely was not accused of not having enough needles. Also, cosmetic acupuncture is a joke. Save yourself the money and get REAL acupuncture. This clinic is sort of a high-end version of community acupuncture, where everyone is treated just from the elbow and knee down (and perhaps the ears/face/head) in a community setting on reclining chairs (unlike traditional clinics where patients go into private rooms and talk to the acupuncturist and may have needles on any part of their body), but it's a bit more high-end than community acupuncture: there are gravity chairs instead of old recliners, for one, there's a curtain for a little bit of privacy, and there are individual TV screens with relaxing, meditative (silent) videos. The receptionist also makes you tea to drink on the way out. The acupuncturist I saw was quite good and my treatment was excellent and I left feeling much calmer and more relaxed. At the end of the session they give you a treatment plan and try to sign you up for a $69/mo plan (where you get two free treatments and additional treatments are $20/each). If you really are just looking for two treatments a month, this is a pretty good deal, but if you're looking at weekly treatments, well, community acupuncture is sliding scale but can cost so much less ($60 for four treatments rather than $109, and doesn't renew each month so you can modulate your treatment depending on your schedule and what's going on for you). read more

Today I went in for a treatment in the am. The front desk staff was extremely courteous and my treatment was great but this was only half the story. I dropped my wallet while leaving the facility and noticed only after the location had closed. I had to travel in the am and needed my wallet which had my ID. I was really in a bind. AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL SERVICE NOT WORTH IT Normally we love this place. But today the receptionist was extremely rude. We came in as a household and usually they take us back at the same time and seat us together today they did not. We asked if we could be sat together and the receptionist rudely told us it's against policy. We are perfectly ok with Covid safety policies in fact my father is an infectious disease disease specialist and has helped with many Covid protocols. The receptionist then told us she informed her boss we were giving her attitude which was simply false. Then the "clinical director" came out and told us that we couldn't change the policy and refused to understand we had no issue with the policy but with despicable, rude, and abhorrent treatment of the receptionist. The clinical director was equally rude and dismissive. We cancelled our membership and will never come back. Truly a disgusting way to be treated yelled at for no reason. Seems like the receptionist took some pent up anger out on us. She also refused to apologize. I hope that no one will be treated with such disrespect and unkindness. ****DO NOT COME TO THIS LOCATION!**** They only care about taking your money and having you keep coming back. Please do yourself a favor and read reviews based on LOWEST to highest ratings for this location, you will see all of our stories match up. These are the facts. *The short version.* Did not see any changes from sessions to the point I didn't use all of mine. It got to a point some symptoms were getting worse. Was pushed into buying some type of pain killer, their own brand of course. Modern Relief a dietary supplement; didn't work. Needles were falling out constantly and told "oh that means the body has had enough" umm never heard that one before. The only thing enjoyable about this place is the environment, but if I wanted a massage chair and relaxing music I'd go to my nail salon and at least I walk out with a pedicure for my money. They refuse to issue a refund of nearly $600! My mom bought a sessions package as well. As someone who has had acupuncture done numerous times throughout her life she would have a good idea if somethings not working. This was brought up to the staff at the time. She ended up being switched to a different Dr. Still no change. She did end up having to go to a private acupuncturist (TAO acupuncture clinic; who definitely knows what they are doing!!) and saw major changes/results after only one session with him. We have asked for our money back and Dr Avery has sent some very passive aggressive emails. After back and forth excuses of why we shouldn't get our money back her final excuse changed to too bad so sad, your mom used her sessions (only to see if the 2nd Dr would know what she was doing) AGAIN the dissatisfaction was brought up the front staff at the time. Then there's me as I mentioned before I didn't even finish mine up and nope too bad so sad again they expired?! What?! Nearly $600 and you just take our money without receiving the the full paid for services. We have been trying since fall of 2020 to get our money back and no one ever contacted us. It wasn't until we finally went to the corporate office here in Scottsdale and spoke with Matt Hale (CEO & Co-Founder) that he told us "oh no worries, drive to that location and they can issue a refund." Dr Avery refused. After some back and forth emails (respectful on our end) we then received a auto response notifying us that she had blocked us. I mean do you think blocking someone makes them and the issue magically disappear? Apparently this is something she does as other customers have mentioned it in their reviews. Wow, great customer service. Will be posting to all review sites, the bbb and will be reporting her to the Attorney General to get a refund that way. If you haven't received your money back from this location I suggest you do the same. People need to be warned to stay away from this location, we are/were in a pandemic we are supposed to be there to help each other out not screw people over and take their money. As a business owner myself, your job is to rectify the issue and hopefully make the customer so happy with the way a situation was handled that they may consider coming back. Just left with my mother in law as it was her first time with acupuncture. I'll start off by saying the receptionist for today was EXTREMELY welcoming and all questions we had she was able to answer or let us know to ask the acupuncturist. She let us know why she does it and how's it's helped her. When my mother in law went back the acupuncturist seemed like she was in a hurry and my mother in law felt like she couldn't even ask her any questions for why she was there or to even tell her why she was putting the needles in certain sections. She did ask if she was ok when she first started and then 30 minutes after. Personally, as a first time I felt that the person that's poking you should maybe be a little more personable or informative but this was not the case. Definitely loved the vibe and the receptionist.
