You don't want to believe me. It's located in NWI, for god's sake! And we all know ::insert heavy sarcasm here:: that NWI is the antithesis of cool. Not so, my li'l yelpies. Ben Mollin, and his salon, is straight-up rock. Rock star, that is. Tattoos and piercings abound. The radio is much more likely to be kicking out The Pixies or Hendrix than anything close to pop music. And the staff? So cool I almost want to schedule appointments with them just for the sake of hanging out. The first time I wandered into BMHE, I was feeling a bit lost. I was in a hair rut. I had taken my blonde hair to black, then purple, then some silver, back to blonde, maybe a little more black, and howzabout a little magenta. And then, like any girl in a major hair rut, I started hacking it off. And that, my dear friends, is when Ange and Ben came into the picture. Ange looked at my hair (black, pink, blonde, and silver at the time) and went about reining in my hair from excessive to what she termed "pretty punk." Ange babied my delicate tresses (all that bleaching and recoloring takes a toll, yo) and brought me to a place of soft, healthy(er) hair while still maintaining the overall look I was going for. Seriously? The girl's got some major skills. And she might be one of the sweetest people on the face of the planet. By the time I hit Ben's chair, I knew that I was going to give him carte blanche. And I did. In return, he gave me the sickest haircut I have ever received. So amazing, in fact, that people continue to stop me and ask where they can get the hook up. And to answer your question--or allay your google fears--yes. Yes, this is the same Ben Mollin who appeared on the first season of Shear Genius. Yes, he is as down-to-earth and awesome as he appeared on the show. Yes, he is immensely talented. And yes, you should stop reading this and book your appointment now. Yes, now! And don't give me that nonsense that you don't have rock star hair. I call shenanigans. Ben and his amazing staff rock out everything from the most pristine bobs to the occasional kid's haircut. No attitude. No fuss. No problems. So get thee to Ben Mollin Hair Education. Your hairs (and you) deserve it.

When I arrived, I was told that lashes and acrylics are not done until after 5pm. Unfortunately, this was not communicated ahead of time. I chose the Highland location specifically because it offered acrylic services -- otherwise I would have scheduled at a closer location -- so I really wish this had been clearly communicated, especially since the appointment was for Valentine's Day (02/13). The check-in process was also a bit wonky, and I wish the reception was more responsive when I arrived. I waited at the front desk while staff assisted someone else, and another customer who arrived after me was acknowledged first. I had to ask to be checked in, and that's when I was notified that two of my services would need to be canceled or moved to a later time. My student stylist, Deyonna, was kind, patient, responsive, and caring from start to finish. From the introduction, to washing my hair, to completing the style, she made sure I was comfortable -- she took care not to get me wet during the wash and checked that the clip-ins were not too tight. She kept trying throughout the appointment while learning a new skill, which I truly respect, and made multiple attempts to improve the result, including attempting to adjust and hide the clip-in tracks when I mentioned a few were showing. An instructor did come over to assist, which I appreciated. However, once it was clear the student was struggling, I wish the instructor had stayed for the rest of the process or checked the finished product before leaving. Due to the track placement and my fine hair, the tracks were still visible, and I ended up having to adjust the tracks myself at home. I'm confident that with more experience, especially with parting fine hair and track placement, she will be great at this service. I also called twice the day before to try to add a pedicure to my services but no one answered. Overall, I appreciate the student's effort and professionalism. With clearer scheduling communication, more responsive reception support, and continued instructor involvement through the finish, the experience could be much smoother for future clients at this location.

only put one star to write review !…read more My experience as a student at Don Roberts was definitely an interesting one. I personally feel that if you make a school for ANYONE that has a passion for the beauty industry then you should be willing to give everyone an equal opportunity to do so. I also feel like if you decided to get a job as a teacher, you should be willing to act like a teacher who wants to see their students succeed because that's only a reflection of you. Students fresh out of highschool acted more mature than the staff, excluding Mr. Micheal and Mrs.Moe. Honestly you never knew what to expect walking into class everyday, it was all based on the moods of the teachers which in my opinion is very unprofessional especially when they preached all day long about presenting a welcoming environment and putting on a smile and how to be "grateful" all the time. The hypocrisy was INSANE. Ms.Jan the owner is an interesting person to say the least, and with her morals, attitude, hypocrisy, common sense, lack of responsibility, lack of professionalism, and lack of empathy, she definitely shouldn't be running a school. Mrs. Michelle was like her right hand man and she is a wild card. I had a love/hate relationship with Mrs.Michelle, she definitely likes to dish out shit but can't take it. I can't say she wasn't helpful at times during my program but she was very unprofessional, felt like walking on egg shells around her, she loved picking on people, she gave highschool bully energy. She just acted like a kid alot, slamming doors, not taking responsibility for alot of things (that was a trend there), getting in people's faces, asking inappropriate questions to students ( not just her, all of them did), it was insane how they treated alot of us students. Mrs. Becky honestly was irrelevant, she mostly was with the cosmos and nail techs anyways so I didn't have to deal with her much which was great cause she has so much attitude and is so loud for no reason. I also don't know how she's a teacher with the lack of knowledge she has but whatever floats their boat. Honestly it spoke volumes whenever the only 2 good teachers I had quit at the beginning of my program. I'm not a quitter though and I continued to push past all their nonsense for over 850 hours, I was actually about 24 hours away from completing my program when shit hit the fan. I definitely faced alot of discrimination throughout my time there, and I just think it's crazy how they talked about how they never have to terminate anyone and they terminated 2 people like 2 months apart from eachother because they don't like people who are honest or question them in any way shape or form. Overall , you basically have to teach yourself most things and they like to make it very hard for you to finish there, they hate when you make friends there, they didn't let my group practice on eachother or any other student, they even threatened to not let us work on Don Robert costumers, which makes it very difficult for students to complete services needed to get their license. And to wrap this all up Ms. Jan is just money hungry and if you choose to go here make sure to take a picture of everything you sign and repeat back everything they say to you slowly because they be trying to steal money from people, coming up with random excuses why you need to pay certain fees, it's honestly sad and pathetic but I believe in karma so what goes around comes around.

This really is a great school. I was skeptical at first because of how small it was, but trust me,…read morethat actually works to your benefit. I think a lot of the people on other sites who had negative things to say just expected to be able to graduate and waltz on out into the workforce and command their pay, schedule, length of commute, and everything else. It doesn't work that way for ANYONE, in any area. Heck, there's people that go to universities for their bachelors, masters, and PhD's, and still can't find the job they want or feel they deserve. Unfortunately, that's the way it is now - you have to start from the bottom and work your way up. This school gives you the tools to do so. Classes are really interesting and informative, you get hands-on experience in the classroom on the equipment, the teachers actually know what they're talking about, all of them either currently work in the area in which they teach, or did so for many, many years. They don't accept student loans, but they do have payment plans, and in the long run, you are saving yourself a LOT of money. By this time net year you could have a completely different career, like their ads say, haha! But it's true. You might have to get your foot in the door somewhere as a medical receptionist or something like that, but this school gives you the education you need to advance, and make good money doing something fun and interesting. And the teachers not only teach you the material, but they can tell you all about what the job really involves, how and where to look for jobs. Ask them, they know what they're talking about! Oh, and one more thing - the certification for the Cardiology and Echo/Vascular classes is through CCI, and I've heard from a lot of doctors that CCI is actually better than ARDMS, which is the other accrediting agency for those areas. And their classes allow you to sit for the exam, so when you pass the test (which you can, and will, if you study!) you can go get a job anywhere in the WORLD! How cool is that??
