I went in for lunch today ordered a pizza Togo. I asked if the crust is vegan the girl answered she didn't know and asked the other girl working she did not know either. She tells me to scan the bar code and I should be able to find out. Nor good customer service at all shewas not friendly at all the whole time while putting my pizza together. When my pizza was done they called my name my pizza was on the counter I say thank you I got no response. My job is 5 minutes if thar down the street I get to work my pizza is barely warm and I could tell it was not cooked all the way because the crust half done. I stopped by at around 9:15 and they were clearly focused only on closing the store. There was a group that wasn't ready when I came in and instead of welcoming forward, the one worker stared at me and the group, and when I asked the group if they were ready, they told me no, so I stepped forward and was then helped. It was wild that they didn't say "hi" or "welcome to MOD." When I asked for bacon and chicken, they let me know that they were out of both. I asked for broccoli on my pizza and the worker added it unevenly. He did the same with the corn. When checking out, I asked if I could get a beer to drink while I waited for the pizza to be baked/cooked, however they let me know that the only person that was allowed to sell alcohol was on break and that it would be about 10 minutes before he came back (by which, my pizza would be done). All but 2 employees were running tasks in order to "close" such as throwing out trash, sweeping, and other behind the counter tasks that were prioritizing closing. Worst experience ever. The bar was a disaster. Not presentable at all. Staff all had a really bad attitude. We never got a hello or a thank you. The restrooms were dirty and out of toilet paper and when I told the employee they just stared at me and didn't move to get any or say thank you for letting them know. Whenever my mom and I get together without my dad, we go face-down in food with gluten (he has an allergy). This time we chose to get pizza! I'd never been to a MOD pizza before, though I had heard good things about it from my partner. This location is close to where I live, so we walked over. It was very quiet inside-- next to no customers... I think most people were placing their orders online and picking up. There were four staff members working, and they seemed pretty bored because when we walked in, they gave us their full and complete attention, chatting us up about the menu and options. Pretty cool that no matter how many toppings you choose, the price is the same! And that sauces are free. Definitely a differentiator among most pizza joints. Welcome to Santa Clara: home of the SF 49ers, and now Mod Pizza's newest location. On the grand opening day last Thursday, the proceeds from all pizzas were going towards the non-profit Bill Wilson Center. Eating great pizza to help support programs for at-risk youth? Win-win! The wife and I each went with the Mod option ($7.87 for an 11" pizza) and chose to customize our pizzas rather than going with some of the pre-set choices. Crust options were regular and gluten-free; unlike at Pieology, whole wheat was not an option. There was a good selection of meat options including chicken, ground meatballs, salami, bacon and Canadian bacon. The wife and I being garlic lovers, we were happy to find whole garlic cloves and minced garlic as toppings. Other available toppings included pineapple, red peppers, tomato slices, diced tomatoes, mushrooms and olives. After 10 minutes, our pizzas were nice and hot out of the oven. The crust was perfectly toasted, and the amount of cheese was reasonable enough to hold all the toppings together. This place is located in a new area off El Camino. There's lots of parking which is great, and it's generally not super crowded. When we got there, the workers were super helpful and got our order done quickly. The cashier, James was great also! Know exactly what he's doing and was able to cater not only to us, but to other people as well. Pizzas were cooked perfectly by him and we sat down and ate. Loved every bite of it! However, DO NOT get the lactose free cheese (sorry guys, I'm lactose intolerant too, but had to bite the bullet on this one and never looked back). There's been a recent proliferation of these "make your own" pizza establishments. There's Pizza Studio, Pieology, Blaze, MOD Pizza, and Fresh Pixx which is owned by Round Table. Some, like MOD Pizza, also have the option to make your own salads atop a pizza crust! So far, we've only tried Pizza Studio and MOD. Pizza Studio was a letdown so I was a bit leery about here. But, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and taste! This locale had been open a month so it was crowded. The noise level was a bit too high due to the lack of any acoustic tile/ceiling. The size of the pie was just right; most of us only finished 3/4 of them. Everything tasted fresh and the amount of toppings provided was just right. The pizzas are thin crust and they have few variety of gravy to select tomatoes or pesto. You can select and add as much topping as you want, also you can ask them to make it as crisp as you need. They have few beer offerings, iced tea and lemonade along with soda. The staff was good and considerate. The ambience is good. I use to come here a lot a few years ago. We decided to stop in today and it was just how I remembered it. I ordered my usual "create your own." When I asked for extra garlic there was no problem. When I ask for Parmesan cheese around the crust, the response was "sure." The workers here were pleasant and efficient. They all had their mask on correctly. They had gloves and the restaurant is set up for social distance and seems to be following all safety guidelines. Back to my pizza, it was soooo good. The only thing is they have discontinued the arugula. I use to top my pizza with it and add the balsamic glaze. Nonetheless, it was still delicious!
