Hi everyone, My name…read moreis Ken Kennard and I enjoyed my first drag race at the now gone but not forgotten Brooksville, Florida drag strip back in 1956. I like cars, drivers who work on their cars, get out there and try their darnedest to win, have a good time and are the good guys who entertain us race fans. Above all, I enjoy going to a race track that is family friendly so the kids are welcome and can grow up with at least part of what I was privileged to experience over the many years. About a month and a half ago I chanced to met Eddy Shoemaker (No not the jockey) at the drag strip. He and his people are working hard to bring us spectators and the racers a quality facility to enjoy. Remember, Eddy is committed the track will be family friendly. For the racers they removed the original asphalt racing surface and replaced it with a brand new solid concrete racing surface and them brought in a milling company to make the track smooth and level. Now that's what I call commitment. They built an eight of a mile of road smoother than a baby's..... I didn't know about this track and what happened to disappoint, Sarah B, the 2020 commenter. If she is still around, I would like to personally invite her and a friend to be my guest once Mr. Shoemaker and his people are ready to open and ask her to comment again on how things are now. (My offer is sincere. Though with my luck, lightning will strike the tree and someone will have to hand start the races like we did in old days.) Please let Eddy know if you accept and I am sure he will let me know. I'll be there under my straw hat in any event. Disclaimer: I am just an old guy who enjoys anything with an engine. I have no affiliation with Mr. Shoemaker other than I would like to see him and his people's efforts pay off and I will have a great drag strip to go to. Ken Kennard from Flomaton, Al.

Paid $20 a person to see the street outlaws and the locals at the drag strip. Guess what, we have…read moreno idea what time anyone is running ! It started 3 hours ago and it is the worst drag experience I have ever had! The reason people go to drag strips is to see the times that the awesome vehicles people have spent a lot of time and money on can run. Not a single time board lite up even for the TV celebrities. Will never be back and will let every person I know to go to Gulfport, at least they show times. What a waste of time and money for spectators and racers! I cannot tell you how upset this made our group. What a disappointment When I person nearby called the guy he knew in booth he was told one sides board was out so they turned them both off. This is a guy that knows the locals that run the drag strip and made the call. After the call the guy announced over speaker times for a few races then stopped.

This is my 35th different race track that I have been to in my lifetime. It began about 30 years…read moreago when I visited my first race track in Greenville, Mississippi. That race track was Greenville Speedway. If I had to guess, it was probably 1990 or 1991. I have been wanting to come here for a long time and finally got a chance to this weekend. Anyway, I pull in to this race track for the first time on March 19th, 2021. The first thing I noticed is that there is no visible sign located off the Highway at night. Secondly, I noticed the road leading up to the race track is bumpy and full of pot holes. The concession stand is slow and unorganized. No visible sign stating which is the entrance and which is the exit. Of course, I go in the "outdoor" as I figured it out by watching locals and regulars later. One tip I would give is to go to the concession stand early to avoid long lines. They have 2 or 3 intermissions every race I noticed, and that's when everyone goes to the concession stand. Altogether, I enjoyed going to this race track. It was very entertaining. They didn't have many cautions while I was here. I learned that when you go to a dirt track, cautions make the race longer. The race track is different from other race tracks. It seemed smaller. Not many people were here and the ones here - were not that friendly. I came here for the late models. Tonight, they had a special racing event for the pure streets. So, there were more pure street race cars here than late models. But, it didn't matter. I really enjoyed the races. Hours: This race track is open on Fridays. Gates and grandstands open around 5 pm or so. Hot laps are around 7pm and feature races start around 8pm usually.
