Admission to the museum is free but they had a box for donations. This was a strange museum visit for me as I didn't encounter a soul. When I entered I heard the door chimes and there was a sign to check in at the guestbook then I went through the first level of the building as I wasn't sure where I was allowed and not allowed to be. It appears more exhibits were on the second floor. Some of the exhibits appeared to be missing in some of the rooms so might be getting restored or a new exhibit is getting ready to go in. But then there were some really nice exhibits on dairy farming; medicine and polio; minerals and mining of gemstones was another. They have the largest carved sapphire in a case. Some of the exhibits rotate so I might get back for a return visit.

In 1924 the school was enlarged and named Snow Hill Graded School. Grades 8 & 9 were added in 1934, and it became a full high school in 1936, renamed Central High School. In addition to Newton, it served students from all areas of Catawba County except Hickory. In 1967 Central High School merged with Newton-Conover High School. Located 1/4 mile north." Interesting. Judge of United States District Court, 1949-1978, NC Superior Court Judge, 1931-1949, first chairman of NC Probation Commission and WWI veteran. Home stands 100 yards east." Online, there is more information. Judge Warlick was born here in Newton NC and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Catawba College in 1911 and a Backelow of Laws from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1913. He was in private practice of law in Newton from 1913 to 1930. He was a Judge of the Superior Court for the 16th Judicial District of North Carolina from 1931 to 1949. Warlick was nominated by President Harry S. Truman on January 13, 1949, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina vacated by Judge David Ezekiel Henderson. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on January 31, 1949, and received his commission on February 2, 1949. He served as Chief Judge from 1961 to 1962 and from 1966 to 1968. Warlick assumed senior status on June 24, 1968 and served in that status until his death on January 30, 1978. The marker is in front of the Catawba County Government Center. Service was friendly here and I was given a choice of a seat at the bar; a high top or low top table. My waitress was very friendly and kept checking in and brought me more tea and even a cup to go. The menu is large with typical bar foods. I went with the fish and chips that were on special and it came with two sides so I did fries and mac n cheese. The mac n cheese was delicious and even came with extra cheese on top. The portion of fries and fish was generous but I didn't know I would be getting fish sticks. So it wasn't what I was expecting. Only a fork was provided in the napkin when a knife would have been useful. The prices were reasonable too. If I make it back this way again I'd stick with the burger next time.
