I have some mixt feelings about this place, because while I like the food, there are some factors that make me seriously reconsider coming here for lunch when I'm in the city for work. First things first, let's talk about the things I like. What I like is how tasty it is, and how fresh these salads taste. My go to meal here is probably the mixt Cobb salad. The avocado and the meat are plentiful and the greens are fresh. If you ever are curious about the nutrition facts, they have a nutrition fact calculator, and it's surprisingly high in protein to carb ratio! I'm a little less pleased by the cheese chunks because of how they sometimes come in large, overpowering chunks, but that might just be a personal preference. Here are the things that I don't like as much. Pigeons seem to frequently walk in and out of the place, making the place seem kind of unsanitary. Now I know that this is probably because of the fact that the doors are always open, but the fact that the workers here make a minimal effort to chase these pigeons away does not really make it any better. Additionally, the prices here are a bit expensive; there's a working girl's cafe, which offers a cobb salad at a much cheaper price just a block down mission. Solid lunch choice around the Embarcadero. The Rooster is easily one of the best healthy sandwiches I've ever had. It's chicken, apple, cheddar, pesto, arugula, and aioli served in a torpedo roll and a side salad. I know it sounds kind of plain but trust me, it tastes SO fresh and SO good. The serving size is quite large as well. I could definitely split it into two smaller meals. The dressing always comes in a container so it's easy to save the salads for later. read more

I was starving and hungry at 7:30pm and wanted something healthy to eat for dinner. My food radar was on looking for something that was open and this place was! I was overwhelmed with the menu. No I don't want to make my own salad which looks too complicated unless you know what mixes well with custom built. Makes me think of the poke places, but at those places I just say add everything on it and I be done with it. Anyway, they had sandwiches and preset menu. I thought the vegetarian Beetnik salad ingredients sounded tasty for $10.00. plus the two people in front of me ordered the same one, so I was crossing my fingers hoping it would be good. The salad maker grabs the ingredients and toss them in the steel bowl and stirs everything up together, so you can see it's fresh and I said I wanted bread and no chicken. The guy boxed it up in plastic container and then off I paid for it. On my way home on the bus I ate it and it was really tasty. Only issue I had was take care when biting into the salad, there were a few pieces of some hard nut shells in it. I didn't have a line like others complained because I went at 7:30pm, so I only had 2-3 people in front of me when I walked in. :-) You could even just buy it for your lunch tomorrow and save time from buying it during lunchtime. During the course of my 2015 Holiday shopping trip to the Bay Area, I went here twice and enjoyed the food both times. First time I had the Cowboy salad. It was good and was a nice big serving. You can go for the menu toppings and even add more to suit your taste. The 2nd time I got the Rooster sandwich. I recommend this more than the salads; besides it comes with a salad on the side. The place is clean. Service is good. Lines move eventually. My only real complaint is the prices. For salad I believe it could be a better deal if they lower the price point a little. read more

I'd heard so many great things about Mixt Greens. Unfortunately they must have a thing against late lunch eaters because when I arrived they were out of a ton of ingredients I attempted to order, including tuna, tofu and mango. I finally went with their seasonal salad, which was tasty if not very special. I like how they ask how much dressing you want in it. And the portions are huge and really can't be beat. The other thing I didn't love was the fact that the guy at the front counter kept trying to hard-sell me to get one of their frequent buyer cards. When I told him I don't live in the area he tried to convince me to take one anyway as they have locations in other cities too. I guess he didn't gather from my demeanor that I wasn't especially happy with the experience there so far so I didn't really think it was worth it t to add yet another item to my already huge George Costanza-style wallet. Apparently a $9.95 salad turns into a $11 and change salad after tax...they just can't admit that they add the healthy sf tax? Either way, it's still way overpriced. Once again Mixt has over promised and under delivered. I ordered online and 15 minutes later was told it was ready. Ordered online at 11:56AM, promised 12:10PM. Showed up 12:20, nothing. Told them what I was waiting for and at 12:35pm I finally got it. I saw people in line who ordered and got theirs quicker! Not only that when you wait and look behind the counter you see the folks using a bucket with what appears to be murky water for utensils they use over and over again. I think the health department needs to review this place too. As for this location - dedicate someone to focus on online orders and tell customers it will take a half hour during lunch time and don't make people wait for their online orders. Also, if a large order - say 8 to 10 salads comes in online, say this needs to be a catering order with several hours notice so you can do it before the lunch rush. Clearly this location needs more staff and more management to help them focus on prioritization of orders. Until it does they are going to lose my business. read more

I really like the salads but here is my problem: I order lunch at here at least 2-3 times a week and 90% of the time they forget to put in my 2nd dressing. I know that it's only 50 cents but this constant lack of attention is just so annoying and frustrating. You may wonder why I don't complain directly - my employer group orders this through caviar and we get it delivered to our office, so when I see it it's always too late. This rating is based on one experience but I will be going back. Why? Based on what I've read, Mixt Greens wholesome holistic sourcing of its ingredients but when I came here for lunch to order their version of a chicken Caesar, I got short changed in terms of the portion size. The box container which usually is filled to the rim for most people was only three quarters full. Maybe it was the person who assembled my salad or maybe it was because I got a pre-set combination which meant that my salad maker just put it into cruise control and didn't even try to give me the same serving size as others. I'm hoping that when I go back that I'll customize my salad so I can fill my salad box nice and full. If I'm paying over $10 for a salad, I'd better get a lot of it and let 's hope when I revisit this place, that they can deliver on that. read more

I was feeling some greens, mixed, so I headed downstairs from my humble abode in 1 Market towards Mixt Greens on Mission Street. I stepped outside the doors, sunlight in my face blinding me, and then I saw it. A line as long as can be, curving inside Mixt and then out into the dining area and wrapping around it. As the efficient smeagol I am, I turned around and walked back inside my cave and found some scraps to eat instead. There must have been at least 50 people in line, probably more. No. Way. It was 12:30pm by the way. In all honesty, for that size line it's probably a 15-20 minute wait to get your food since the "chefs" each have their own station and make your order fresh in front of you. I have actually waited in line at Mixt once, but the line was half as long (aka still inside the store) and it took me around 8 minutes to get my food. Watching as others scamper away with their food as you are stuck in line?? That's torture! Or maybe good "marketing". Anyways, I've gotten Mixt several times for team meetings (because apparently a lot of people dig it) where I didn't have to wait in line and it was not bad. I personally don't see all the rage about it, but I'd say it's more than editable. I like to get the sandwich orders, usually the Disco (turkey, bacon, tomatoes, and the goods), which also come with some greens in the same size container. I don't like the sauce they give, whatever it is. So I stuff those greens in my mouth and wash them bad boys down with water instead. Delish! It's def a healthier alternative than the other stuff in the area, but I can't say that the taste is spectacular. Sort of as expected I suppose. They have a good strawberry lemonade drink, if you are willing to shell out $2 for 12oz of it. This is a review specifically for the ways that this team handles allergens and cross contamination. To be clear, the staff is incredibly friendly and efficient, the ingredients all seem to be of good quality, and they offer a lot of options without an untenable wait time. I've enjoyed many of my Mixt Greens salads. However, I always leave wondering if my allergies are going to be triggered. I don't think it's fair to expect a volume establishment such as this one to be able to accommodate special, allergy related requests during their rush, so when I go, I show up at 10:45, when the place is effectively empty. Obviously, I don't order any ingredients that are in close proximity to say, the croutons, where contamination is a foregone conclusion. But I do ask them not to place any of my salad ingredients on the counter (or scoop any lettuce that fell out back into the bowl), where they have been cutting bread or there are bits of corn floating around, and request no dressing because I don't trust the ingredients. I also make my allergies known immediately and every time. And yet, every time someone asks me if I want bread. Or puts bread on my salad and then gives me a dirty look when I ask them to remake it. So, overall, I think Mixt Greens is a solid spot for days I forget my homemade lunch, but I wish there was a little bit more training on allergen awareness. read more

Don't even bother unless you go right when they open. I've tried to order here multiple times only to find that they're out of EVERYTHING. I understand the desire to keep things a fresh as possible, but it's frustrating as hell as a low-carber with a later lunch to find out that the only veggie options left by the afternoon are peas, potatoes, edamame, beets, and some peppers. My head about exploded when I asked what protein options were left and I was told tofu or bacon. In the end of my latest round, I wound up paying ten bucks for a pile of romaine (one of two options left), some red pepper, a smattering of cucumber, a piece of fennel (seriously, I asked for fennel, and I think I only got one shaved piece) and some not even fully ripened avocado with bits of the skin still attached. The tomatoes I asked for somehow never made it into the container. No thanks; I guess I'll just eat a protein bar and save this for garnish later when the avocado stops being chewy. I am a fan of Mixt Greens because of the large portions and the fresh veggies. Easily accessible from work and the line is best before 12:30pm - but even so, the line goes by fast. I ordered a custom salad which gives you the option of one meat, one dressing, and 5 other toppings. I really like my combination of balsamic dressing, mixt greens, egg, grilled chicken, cherry tomatoes, avocado, and edamame. I ordered their seasonal pomegranate lemonade as well which was too sweet so I won't be ordering again, but it did taste good! Will return :) read more

I'm certainly not a big fan of a $10 salad, but I am a big fan of efficiency and competence. During the lunch rush, Mixt Greens consistently sports a line out the door that moves remarkably fast. I compare it to SF Soup Co or Chipotle in how quickly they can churn through 30 people, but the MG staff has to do a whole lot more work, mixing up fresh gourmet salads on demand. My favorites: the Maui (featuring rare-seared ahi tuna and avocado) and the Mixt Cobb (perfect amounts of applewood smoked bacon and blue cheese). This is the absolute perfect location for Mixt Greens. Particularly during the warm spring and summer afternoons, this is an excellent place to sit outside and soak up the sun during lunch hour. read more

How many times have you been to Vegas (or any vacation destination with lots of things to do) and said to yourself " I wish I would have visited x - y or z??" . I came during the worst time to visit any SF eating establishment the 12pm to 12:30pm window and ended up waiting 20 + minutes for my order. To be fair a long line means that : A) you are popular a1) you are probably pretty good a2) you have a great deal After going through many different ideas/strategies in my head which was compounded by the long wait I finally elected to go with the choose your own salad. What I had was pretty good but it came out to $15 (it included a side of meat). Was the food good? Yes Was the line frustrating? Yes Was the food worth the wait? I love Mixt Greens because it is right near my work and I can have them make any type of salad I can imagine from their extremely wide variety of ingredients. I like that I can pick heavy, medium or light on my dressing and switch or add ingredients depending on what I fancy, The salads are a little on the pricier end of the scale, but they are pretty decent in size and the ingredients are always local and organic. So I get to have some warm fuzzy feeling that I'm supporting local farmers and being good to the planet or something. This location gets a pretty long line going, but it always moves pretty quickly and despite how busy it is, finding a table to sit at is never a problem, even on a really nice day. Mixt Greens is pretty much my go-to lunch place. The best part is the versatile options; the fact that you can actually build your own salad from scratch with the freshest ingredients around. Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Be Well. The subtle herbs mixed in with the salad really add depth to the salad. I started working in the area and decided to stop by Mixt for a healthy lunch within walking distance of my office. I've eaten here a total of three times so far. The first time I was not impressed. I built my own salad which probably wasn't a good idea. It was bland and cost $15. I decided to order the orchard on my next visit: kale, spring mix, avocado, seasonal Apple, grilled chicken, bacon, almonds, and cheddar cheese w balsamic vinaigrette on the side. Yum! This salad was so delicious. The line was about 40 people deep at 1 PM. I spent about 25 mins in line. On my third visit I opted for The Orchard again, but substituted walnuts for almonds, and blue cheese in place of cheddar. The girl making my salad looked mad AF when I asked for substitutions. That part I didn't quite understand, nor did I really care if my request angered her. If I'm paying $15 for salad I want it made to my liking. I give Mixt three stars because the people who work here are not friendly and quite rude. Seems like you're walking down a prison chow line vs. an SF salad stop near the Embarcadero. No smiles, no conversation, and anger if you ask for substitutions. My three star rating also factors in the cost of the salads. They're way too expensive, yet I think I will come back for The Orchard once or twice more. Tip: If you can wait go here after 1:30. The line is non existent at this time. read more

Expensive but good salads, the quality of which really depends on the guy who is putting your order together. For example, there's one guy who will always give you the opposite of what you ask for: No bread? Okay here's a piece of bread. Light dressing? Okay here's some extra heavy dressing so your salad will be more like a soup. Avocado? okay let me mash it into an indiscernible pulp so you can't even tell it's there. Since I've gotten lunch from here about 4x/week for the past couple of years, it's about time I give it a big ol' virtual high five. Sure, the line is atrocious and the prices are on the high side - but that's because they toss up the freshest, yummiest, most filling salads in the area. I'm hooked. I like to "mix" things up, but my usual order is the Mixt Cobb with non-fat honey mustard dressing (sounds weird, but it is fantastic), butter lettuce, avocado, blue cheese, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, very light on the bacon, with tofu and croutons instead of chicken and egg. Their chicken is kind of dry and tasteless in my opinion (probably to camouflage into so many different flavors of salads), but the tofu is *so* good. I highly recommend the swap! I will say that I frequent Mixt Greens on a frequent, weekday basis. The line here can get insane, but moves pretty fast! They are always trying to get you in & out as fast as possible. I love the variety here - endless combinations for salads & I'm partial to the Maui and Siam for pre-mades. Every salad I have had is delicious, fresh, & tasty. Now, my complaint here is with consistency. I never get a consistently made salad! Sometimes it's loaded with ingredients, other times it is so skimpy. Yesterday I had the Maui (which I've eatn 10+ times) and I had one tiny piece of avocado in it!! This wouldn't bug me as much except for the price is not cheap - I should get consistent amounts of ingredients every single time. I went there on May 4th and ordered their Mixt Cobb salad for $9.95. I was so excited to try their salad considering their line was out the door. The service was OK, my co-worker was asked how much dressing would he like 'small' or 'medium' amount, but for me I was not asked. As I watched my salad being prepared, not much dressing was added. I guess I had the 'small' amount by default. With that said, onto the verdict on my lunch... My salad was dry and warm because their butter lettuce was in a bin behind the food preparers with a light shining on it...not good because my lettuce was wilting. Ony thing cold and refreshing was the chicken ontop of the salad. Ingredients in the Cobb salad such as the eggs, blue cheese and avocado just made the salad warm tasting and mushy. It was not crisp, refreshing and enjoyable to eat. I had to toss more than half of it away because it was not very enticing. They lost me as a repeat customer. read more

Mixt Greens is one block from where I work and thank goodness! I go here almost every day that I am in the office for a few reasons: 1. The outdoor seating they have is simply divine on a sunny day in the FiDi...which luckily is pretty often. If you're lucky enough to spare a few minutes for lunch, salad + sunshine = win! 2. The variety and flavors for salad is virtually endless! Now, I will say, my favorite salad of all time there is the Mixt Cobb, with romaine and blue cheese dressing. YUM! The Cowboy is a close second, but I always feel drawn to the Cobb. 3. The service is amazing! The salad makers actually remember me (since I go there so much) and a few even know what my "usual" is! It's very nice to see a friendly smile and courteous attitude when quickly grabbing lunch. 4. You can always count on getting your salad really quickly! Despite the massive lines, I know that I can easily get from my office and grab a salad to be back at my desk in about 15-20 mins. A true testament to their quick salad makers and efficient processes. I know some people say it's pricey, but seriously, given the rest of the crap in FiDi Mixt Greens is great deal. I would rather pay $10 for a delicious healthy salad than some cheap "food" from some of the other places nearby. Too many mistakes on the goto salads here, so I will walk to the Sansome location or just hit the Ferry Building. It baffles me why there is a line out the door every day for lunch for a salad...my curiosity got the best of me and finally ended up here with one of my co-workers. She being vegetarian Mixt Greens was only a fitting choice for lunch. I decided to get their seasonal special of Pork II. The pork had a great blend of spices on the exterior, was moist, tender and overall well seasoned. As for the salad, it was vibrant & fresh with a great blend of textures and well dressed. I thought the portion was decent and for the most part satisfying but one gripe is the price point. It just seems a little much to pay $12 for salad, was it good yes, was it $12 good, that's up for debate. This is my new favorite salad place! Their menu has 2 vegan options but you can also build your own salad. They have tons of different dressings, many of which are also vegan. Line is long during lunch hour, but I went at 11:30am and it wasn't bad. Plus, the line moves fairly quickly. These people are expert salad makers! My guy was super quick and friendly even though I asked for a few adjustments. I got the Siam. I asked for no red peppers and he offered to sub it with something else which was nice. And then they ask you if you want light, medium or heavy dressing, which is great b/c I always end up asking for extra dressing anyway! Salad was good. The spicy peanuts were pretty spicy and added a lot of kick. My only complaint is the slice of bread they give you is tiny!!
