I am shocked there aren't reviews for Jerry Mitchell Landscaping since he's been an active design/landscaping service locally for 30 years. Many people I've talked to know of him or have had their yards done by him. In fact, friends who have used his services on two separate occasions recommended him to me when I wanted to design/re-landscape my backyard. When I first met Jerry, he was energetic and once he saw the backyard, he knew exactly what he incisions for it. He did a paper and colored pencil draw up of his plans and we were sold! His vision seemed amazing and we couldn't wait to enjoy our yard. In August 2018 we paid him 50% down and he said it should take about 4 weeks to complete. Then nothing. We waited for him to tell us when he was going to start and he kept responding that he was finishing up another job so it should be a week or so. That went on for a full month until one day, I was sitting on the couch watching TV and there was Jerry and a team of landscapers in my backyard. I was annoyed he didn't give us a heads up that he was coming over and starting the yard that day, but at the same time, I was happy he was there so I didn't care. His team came and went for 10 months. 10 MONTHS!! They never had a schedule they just showed up and since we have dogs, I asked him to tell us when they would be there so I could lock my dogs in. If they weren't coming, I'd let my dogs have access to the yard. He would say they would be there, I'd lock my dogs in and watch for movement in the backyard on my Ring camera but they only would show up about 50% of the time. His crew left garbage all over. They would leave their lunch and snacks everywhere. Chicken bones, straws, wrappers. After work, I would have to come out and fill half a plastic trash bag of their food waste so my dogs wouldn't eat it. He would invoice us for plants and trees that were never planted and this continued even after he finished the job. It took months after the work was completed for the last invoice to get resolved. He also had a job concurrently at our friend's house and he would tell our friends they got the A team landscaping their yard, which I guess meant we got the B team? I waited years to post this review for a few reasons. I was so mad at Jerry for years that I would have given him a 1 star heated review for his lack of communication, his employees disrespectful trash habits, the length of time it took him to finish my yard, and he is almost invisible on review sites. His designs are amazing! I love my yard! It is beautiful and I use it daily even in the winter. I don't think another landscaper would have had his vision for our little backyard space so I'm so happy he designed our yard but it was a frustrating year working with him. read more

We hired Jerry for a total makevover of our backyard. First, we should have done this 10 years ago. Jerry's work transformed a yard that was unusable into a retreat for all of our friends and family. It was a massive project involving the demo of the old yard and the design, engineering and construction of a space that contains a natural rock cooling off pool with waterfalls, a fire pit, a covered entertainment area and an outdoor kitchen all tied together with the artistry of grass, plants, trees, shrubs, pavers, fencing and storage, along with lighting and music. All the features in the yard (music, lighting and water feature) can be controlled with Wi-Fi apps from our phones. Jerry worked with plumbers electricians and carpenters to seamlessly put together the best backyard I have ever seen. We doubled our living and entertaining space for a fraction of what it would cost to do a home addition. It was worth twice the price we paid. We love the fact that we did it right the first time. We are in our third summer now and the yard keeps getting better as it matures. Do not give this another thought. Do WHATEVER it takes to hire this man and you will not be dissatisfied with the result. I wish I had pictures to show the yard before, but the final result will do. Thanks Jerry. Jerry MItchell Design /Build Landscapes Company completed redoing our yard last month. We chose Jerry because of his personable manner and his demonstration of listening to us in what we wanted to accomplish. We wanted a low mainntenance, colorful, zero scape yard. Jerry and his crew accomplished just that. We now have a yard we can enjoy ( without much work) for years to come. Jerry's crew was truly one of the best we have ever had work for us. They were extremely hard working, professional and very competent. They where here 7 days and each day they not only cleaned up the work area and sidewalk but also the street! I had an older home with so many obstacles. Flagstone, older trees, older shrubs, it was a mess. Jerry came in and created a paver area for entertaining with an outdoor kitchen, a separate outdoor area with a tv and fire pit, and a small garden area for my herbs. Jerry Mitchell Landscaping's name was given to us by one of his competitors. I called Jerry and he came to the house, LISTENED to what we wanted, made some recommendations, and said he'd get a proposal to me (I've heard that one before). Sure enough, in the time frame he promised, he had a proposal for us. He went over it with us and listened to our input. His ideas and vision on the design were great. He explained his vision and why our ideas might not be the best (we moved to Reno from the high plains of Nebraska). We agreed to engage him and his company. He asked for a reasonable down payment and a signed contract. Both of which are indications of a credible, professional business. The job was started when promised and his crew was on site daily except for a couple of days it rained and a requested absences we had agreed to. His crew was GREAT. Most were either family or long time employees. We had a couple of issues at our site that Jerry solved and improved the look of our residence. The job turned out better than we had hoped. With Jerry's creative vision and his crew's hard work and skill the job was completed and we are thrilled. We feel we got creativity, quality, good value, and professionalism doing business with him. And, he and Zac are a pleasure. We like working with people we like and they fit the bill. read more
