This is new hip spot tucked away off Mexico 307. They also have locations at the beach and downtown Tulum. At the time they had only been open for roughly two weeks but the vibe was definitely hipster, new age. Depending on the time of day, they play everything from Drake to Afrobeats and everything in between. An added bonus for those of you who worry about the hot Tulum sun, this restaurant even features their own air conditioning for a cool dining experience. And did I mention they offer hookah as well.
Místico features various plants, a white rock floor, rustic chairs and some DIY tables. There is also outdoor seating located in the front and back of the establishment. Out back is outfitted with several trees, perfect for enjoying a laid back outdoor dining experience. Inside there is a small bar and some deco lighting that gives a great ambience.
The food at Místico speaks for itself. At the time, this location didn't have menus printed yet but the server knew the entire menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner which is all served throughout the day. It was also helpful that she spoke both Spanish and English. This spot serves cocktails, coffee, teas, juices and alcohol, including Mexican craft beers. The tacos are very flavorful. The fish is grilled to perfection and not overly seasoned which makes for a great tasting taco. They are topped with grape tomatoes, butter lettuce and grilled onions. This is finished with a spicy aioli sauce that has a nice flavor profile of its own. The shrimp tacos are outfitted the same but the shrimp are a little on the smaller size. This would be the only draw back of these tacos. As an appetizer the quinoa salad was a great addition. It was flavorful but not overly powerful. It came as a beautiful presentation to the table and made a great start to the meal.
Overall the experience here is one to be enjoyed again. It is perfect for a getaway from the beach and just a rock throw from the center of town. read more
