Yes, it was twenty years ago, but back then, it was ok for a baseball stadium. Just beware of guys that spill mustard on you while you're walking through the place.

The baseball game was only two hours long and I spent over 30 minutes in line for concessions. I highly doubt the women's restroom was cleaned before the event. It was too disgusting and ran out of paper towels with over an hour left. Do they not have ongoing custodial services? Simply put...do better.

This is a nice piece of history that is almost 200 years old (Built in 1839). It is in marvelous…read moreshape. There is free street parking available within a reasonable walking distance. It is a National Historic Landmark and a fine examples of Greek Revival architecture. It served as the Mississippi state capitol from 1839 to 1903 and has a limestone exterior and a copper dome. Currently, You cannot go into the the building to do on-going renovations on the roof. It is a nice structure that has been renovated. You would not be able to really guess its age. Looking in the window of the front doors, you will see a double spiral wooden staircase. There are a bunch of placards on the front of the building designating it as a national landmark, and detailing its construction and subsequent restoration. The grounds of the building are very well maintained and the lawn is amazing. it sits behind a wrought iron fence that is a replica of the original one that was originally at the building. This is a nice visit, if only to see its beauty and architecture. Hopefully they will open the building back up soon for free tours again. I would have like to see the inside. I have heard that it is just as beautiful as the outside.

Of course…read more First-Hand Experience: I saw a concert here maybe 5 years ago, and then visited again (for the sake of memories) when I was on tour here most recently in 2012. It's not the best indoor venue I've ever been to, but it's right up there. This 6,000 seat Coliseum sits atop an extinct volcano! Not even kidding. When I heard this, I had to come and visit, but it wasn't anything too incredibly special. It is a nice place, and can be expanded to 10k for concerts. It once hosted amateur Ice Hockey, and every year the State Fair is here as well as the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi in the Spring. By the way if you're in Jackson for any reason, try Peaches for Smothered Pork Chops, and try Stamp's Superburger for a burger. Trust me.

Growing up in Mississippi, one of the highlights of the entire year was when the State Fair arrived…read morein town every year at the beginning of October. It was even more thrilling when I was a teenager and no longer had to be accompanied by my parents!! Oh... the memories!! LOL How my friends and I managed to stay out of trouble, I have no idea! The State Fair still continues to come around at the beginning of October every year, but the grounds themselves aren't nearly as nice as they once were. Time has definitely taken its toll on the pavement, etc. Basically, watch out for cracks and don't trip. The Mississippi Coliseum is also located on the Fairgrounds which is where concerts are held as well as the Dixie National Rodeo (which comes around once a year). During these times, the Fairgrounds become parking for the Coliseum. As someone else mentioned in a review, the fence is now gone, so the huge slide (which is officially open during the State Fair) is now fair game all year long. I wouldn't want to be caught though because I would assume trespassing can come into play. Also, this is most definitely not the part of town I would want to be in late at night as it's not exactly safe. So play on the slide at night at your own risk and try to not get arrested.

Let me tell you, this gentleman is a wealth of information about this Hall of Fame. He is very passionate about all of the greats that have had their beginnings in this state. You pay $5, and then the tour starts with a video. In order to be inducted into this hall of fame, you must have been born in this state and gotten your start here. Mike then guided me through the highlights of the museum, it is very well organized. I am not a huge fan of sports, but I love to meet people who are excited about things, and this was a delight.

It is nicely done for a local facility and well worth the five dollar entry fee. There is a well produced introductory video and then the museum collection is thoughtfully broken up into thematic displays. We thought the experience could be enhanced by adding short audio or video clips, or more written word displays, with interesting or compelling stories about Hall of Fame members. For example, they have a section on Dizzy Dean and I recall hearing so amazing and colorful stories about his time in the major leagues and barnstorming during the off-season. A couple of these stories would help people who don't know about Dizzy Dean to get to know him better. Also, many of the Hall's members were involved in some amazing sports moments. It would be great to have short videos highlighting those exciting times.

Two years ago, hubby and I were visiting MS while the rodeo was in town. Hubby had never been to a rodeo, I heard Rodney Adkins was going to be performing, so I decided we must go! Hubby really didn't want to go... I practically had to drag him... boy, did he thank me later for making him go. We both had the best time and we had perfect seats to see Rodney Adkins. it is just amazing to watch the cowboys ride those bulls right in front of your eyes. I just can't believe they do it. You never really realize how long 8 seconds is until you sit and watch someone try to hang on to a bull (and I'm sure the 8 seconds is even longer for the cowboys themselves). The Dixie National Rodeo is huge and Jackson is lucky enough to have it come to town every year. Ticket prices are very reasonable. I think we only paid $20 per ticket and we were only 3 rows up from where all the magic was happening. Country music artists come every year, so make sure to check the rodeo calendar so you can get tickets to go on a night when one of your favourite artists is performing. If I lived in MS, I would definitely attend the rodeo every year. Hopefully in the future one of our MS trips will correspond with the rodeo and we'll be able to go again!

It's way more exciting than watching a rodeo on tv. Rodney Adkins performed that night...again very surprised with how much I enjoyed his performance... The tickets were very inexpensive at around 20 bucks each...a big plus... If we ever have the chance to go to the rodeo again, I will not hesitate to go!
