We chose Mission Ranch to celebrate my milestone birthday. We arrived at 4:45PM--opening is 5:00 PM. There were three couples ahead of us, and a few behind us. When it was our turn, we entered the vestibule. The lady at the front of the restaurant was rude and unfriendly. As we stood waiting for her to acknowledge us, she looked down writing, looked to her side giving orders, looked back down, and didn't say one word to us. I finally said, "Excuse me. Did you call us ?" She looked up and immediately stated there would be a 90 minute wait, or we could sit outside. It was cold and misty, so we decided to wait for a table indoors. She asked for my phone number and said she would text me when a table was available. It was a little after 5 PM. At 6 PM I received a text stating I was put on the waitlist--an hour AFTER I was told I would be added to the call list. A few minutes later, I received a text that our table was available. As we entered the restaurant, the couple that was standing behind us in line, was leaving the restaurant. They asked how we enjoyed our dinner. Obviously, they weren't made to wait. Hmmm. Upon being seated, I ordered the New York steak, "Medium, with a little pink". After waiting over 15 minutes, I cut into two different parts of the steak and it was rare. The server saw me touching the center of the steak.-- which was bloody, and room temperature. Without even asking, he immediately stated he would bring me a steak that wasn't rare. I waited another 15 minutes, witnessing people around me being served their food--including steak! When my plate arrived it was so hot. I couldn't touch it. My zucchini was charred, as was the top of my steak. It was obvious they put my entire plate into some sort of heating element. I was surprised it was the same steak. Nonetheless, I cut into it and it was still rare, with an overcooked exterior! The server looked embarrassed, and said he would send me the manager. Unfortunately, the manager was the same lady from the front of the restaurant. She apologized and asked what I wanted her to do. I said I would settle for another steak on the menu. She suggested filet mignon. I hadn't eaten all day and I was starving, so I agreed to the fillet. Again, I waited and waited witnessing people who arrived 30 minutes after I was seated, being served. It was making me more upset. The manager returned to my table and stated that the chef was frustrated because that was his "version of medium". WHAT?! Did she expect me to be forced to eat a steak that was rare because that was his "version"? I told her I didn't like rare, just a little pink, so she asked me to give him one more chance and she would tell him to prepare it exactly how I specified. I couldn't understand what was so difficult about giving me a steak cooked, medium. I always order--and receive--steak cooked to MY liking, everywhere I go. What was the problem? Apparently, the manager forgot I agreed to have the fillet. At this point, I didn't care. My granddaughter, who had joined me for dinner, had already finished her meal. After waiting almost 15 more minutes, I told the server I would take my steak to go, as I was tired of waiting, and we had somewhere else to be at 7:30 PM--it was now after 7:00 PM. When my box arrived, it was filet mignon. What happened to the steak being cooked to my specification? At this point, I was beyond upset. I asked for my bill. I saw the New York steak and filet mignon on the tab. In addition--as I was waiting, I was offered a second glass of wine. I accepted. I presumed it was complementary for their lack of service--the second glass was also on the bill. I demanded they remove both steak dinners, and the last glass of wine.-- that I didn't drink because I was waiting to enjoy it with my steak. In addition, despite the manager previously telling me she was going to compensate me for my "trouble", I was not compensated for anything. This is the second time we have had a bad experience at this restaurant. My son, a friend, and our neighbor have also expressed dissatisfaction having dined here, in the last six months. I will no longer refer this place to my friends or family--I warn you, unless you are one of the "favored", you will NOT be treated well. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would.. My partner and I came here for dinner 530pm on a weekday because we wanted to have our dinner while watching the sunset. The host told us it was going to be 45 min-1hr wait, and we waited over the estimated time. Once we didn't want to wait no longer, we called them to see the status of our table, and somehow it was magically available. Once we were seated we were in between two groups of people who were celebrating their dinner together, and would constantly walk back and forth to each table. As we're eating our food we are surrounded by these group of people walking and LITERALLY standing next to our table and food talking to one another. Our waiter did not even check on us to see how we were doing. The food is mediocre. Do not come here, they don't care about customers happiness and their food is not worth the price or the long wait. read more

Best tip to avoid a wait: Get there at 4pm for cocktails and they will add your name to the list for dinner at 5pm. This worked perfect for my husband and I, so we are thankful for all of the reviews we read online recommending this as well. Since they don't do reservations, this is the way to go to avoid waiting for a table. They have a light snacks menu and cocktails from 3-5pm, but a table opened at 4:30pm, so they sat us there until dinner started, and we could order some bites and drinks. They also let you order a drink and walk around the property. The ranch views are nice, and you can see the beach/ocean in the distance. Even on a slightly foggy evening, we could still see everything well. The filet mignon and potatoes were excellent. I was not a fan of the roasted veggies (taste was off on them) nor the apple dessert (apples had a strange flavor). The charcuterie board and drinks were fantastic. It's a unique experience in Carmel, so worth trying at least once! read more

We were looking for Clint Eastwood's home when we drove into this cute somewhat fairy-tale like community. There's just something enchanting about this location. We were planning on dining here anyway and didn't realize it was Clint Eastwood's property. What a gem! Their farmhouse accommodations are lovely; the sheep pasture and ocean nearby provided a nice view to our outdoor dining experience. There is a cute wooden bridge from the restaurant to the pasture. Lots of heat lamps by the tables too. You have the option to stay indoors but I highly recommend the outdoors. They do not take reservations so first come first serve only. They open at 3pm and dinner is served at 5. We arrived around 4pm to get our names down for a 5pm dinner reservation. We got outdoor seats and just ordered a couple of sodas and their homemade garlic bread. It was served toasty warm and delicious. Ate the whole thing! The dinner menu has a lot to choose from: seafood, prime rib, pasta, filet mignon, vegetarian, etc. We did not order any main courses as we were still full from lunch but the next time we come back, we'll make sure our bellies are hungry. We just had chicken noodle soup, Cesar salad with anchovies and the salmon appetizer. All were great! Parking is a bit of a challenge because there was an event so have patience. It is quite special to be here. I'd even consider staying in one of their farmhouse accommodations next time. read more

We approach the entry to the restaurant, promising quaint and I am excited for our choice for our last night in Carmel. Seated outside, excited still with the site of the sheep and beautiful view. Stevie, our waitress was attentive and welcoming, hopes are high! Then the food is served and I can tell you this is one of the worst food experiences had. Did not even finish the filet as it was grey, not cooked to the medium temp (was still mooing); the potatoes lacked any flavoring and gave the vibe of days old with a warm up in a microwave; the green beans, same vibe, wilted and no seasoning. Aside from service and environment being 5 star, the food is at a 1 at best and that is for the bread brought to the table that was the best part of the meal. read more

While we knew they don't take reservations here & we'd probably have a wait, we got there immediately after they opened & were told it would be 2.5 hours before we'd be seated. Then they offered a scaled down menu if we wanted to sit in the bar & we took it. The prime rib sandwich was good & our server was amazing. But we sat at our little table watching at least 3 tables of 2 just sit open, nobody ever sat at them, the line at the door was clear...I just don't understand that practice being from the other side of the country. read more

The new barstools are abysmal in that they are two inches taller, two inches less in seat circumference, and have little to no cushioning. It used to be a very comfortable bar to sit around. Now you have to stand every ten minutes to get rid of the cramps and to stretch your lower back. People with sciatica or lower back problems should be wary. read more

I sat at the bar to eat and drink. The bar tender was phenomenal and attentive even though it was very busy. I started with a glass of wine and oysters (absolutely delicious and fresh). While enjoying the live piano man I finally decided on the NY steak. Since I'm on vacation I went fully indulgent and got onion rings and potato gratin as my sides. I will be dreaming of those potatoes and steak for a long time. Cooked to perfection. Melts in your mouth. Make a reservation or come early and prepare to wait. What an incredible and romantic restaurant. Me and my wife enjoyed every minute of this place. We dined for dinner last Monday evening and we got to watch the sheep graze on the meadow. The candles were all lit as well as the heating lamps so the patio looked enchanting. We'd like to thank Chris for doing an amazing job with his service and professionalism. He's Filipino like us so we got to relate a lot. He told his story and a brief history about the restaurant which was interesting. I loved their lamb shanks (medium rare) with the roasted garlic and diced mint chutney. This dish had so much flavor and cooked perfectly. The meat was literally falling off the bone. My wife enjoyed their Alfredo fettuccine with grilled chicken strips. The sauce was creamy and the pasta was cooked nicely; we can tell this dish was authentic and cooked from scratch. The complimentary garlic bread is a must and goes perfect with everything. It's buttery and the bread has this sponge texture where it soaks the garlic. Ask for another basket! For my cocktail, I ordered their Holy Water which was a tequila based drink with Grand Marnier, Rose petal lime juice, and shaken with ice. This is a fabulous cocktail to pair with your meal. Wow, is this place crowded!? Yes. And it's situated overlooking a rustic meadow. You're just steps from the ocean. And that's why it's crowded. The food is fine. It's a step above diner food, quite frankly. The drinks are pricey and not great. But, you come for the experience. The service is solid. The ambiance is so-so. Sit at piano, bar or table - all gave full menu. Many ppl celebrating anniversary as it is cozy and perfect for that. Stopped in here after doing the 17 mile scenic drive at pebble beach. This place was fantastic! We got here right when they opened for some light snacks and drinks. They have two separate menus one for dinner and the other for snacks and Hors d'oeuvres. They have an incredible view I highly recommend sitting outside. You get a beautiful view and will get to see the sheep. We got several plates to try we had the fruit and cheese plate, cocktail shrimp, potato skins, and the short ribs. The ribs were by far my favorite and were delicious! They were incredibly tender very delicious bbq sauce and just fell right off the bone. I also really enjoyed the fruit and cheese plate. About four very different cheeses all delicious in their own way. The service was great and they were super accommodating to our large party. Always wanted to stay there and finally made it happen. Let me start with the view: majestic, peaceful, serene, spectacular. We stayed at the Main Barn and I expected more. It was very loud in the a.m. with a kid's school nearby and trash / cars and people talking out loud. So, that was disappointing because for the $$, we expected more. Now, the restaurant is probably the highlight for me. The whiskey sour was out-of-the world and I could probably just sit there all day at the bar with the piano... the service, however, was hit and miss. We had great service Day 1 and really so so service on Day 2 (seated in the cold outside, and our server forgot our order and was a bit rude). Not sure if I would return again for $$, there might be better places elsewhere, but it was definitely a dream come true to stay at Eastwood's property. read more

For a getaway we booked a room at the Mission Ranch's Hayloft. The website description and one picture does not do this room justice! It was quaint yet spacious room and the bathroom is a really nice size! Although the laundry room is directly below we did not hear the washing machines or employees at all. I loved it! We had Sunday brunch at the adjoining restaurant that I definitely recommend. We also had dinner here and I ordered the scallops with risotto. The giant scallops were delicious but the risotto was al dente not quite to my liking. Service was great at brunch, but not quite on top of it at dinner... it was a chuckle. After many years of dinning at the restaurant we chose to stay two nights at the historical grounds. Our room was as described a renovated Hayloft where I read somewhere that the restaurant was a creamery. Definitely recommend the overnight stay. read more

We arrived at 3:00 to put our name on the list then went to town about 2-3 miles away My wife and I each had the chowder. We both shared the Pear Salad and the Coriander Salmon. The best food and service I had a weekend! My cousins and I took our moms here for their 75th birthday dinner and we were not disappointed! (With that said, please know the crowd is a bit older.) Pros: our server was the sweetest gal, the views were amazing, the food was delicious, great prices and the drinks were good. The people around us were so happy to celebrate our moms right along with us. Cons: They absolutely do not take reservations. We got there at 5 and waited maybe 30 minutes so it wasn't too bad. Ordering at the bar took a LONG time. By the time we got our drinks we were already seated. The decor is OUTDATED and so much so I had to switch out my chair because I thought I it was going to break. Very well organized (reservations sold out in 2 hours!) didn't feel rushed at all. Excellent service, our gal was so pleasant and catered to our every need as if we were her only table. Thank you for that! The turkey dinner entree was what you would hope it would be, savory and such a large portion, because you know you want leftovers! We finally made it to Mission Ranch for dinner. The location is idyllic, overlooking the mouth of the Carmel River in the distance and lush, green fields. The location is nice and quiet outside but the entryway, bar area, and table seating near the bar are as loud as a Disney musical. At least it was the night we dined. I took 1/2 star away for the noise level and our inability to have a conversation at a level that did not require raising our voices. The service was timely, professional, and friendly. We had a nice cheese plate (Humboldt Fog, Camembert, and two cheeses the server could not identify) and perfectly created Manhattans and a perfect Sapphire martini. We were sat in the main room with the piano despite requesting the other, quieter room (there goes the other 1/2 star). IMP. NOTE: they don't take reservations, all seating is done first come, first served. We were greeted promptly by our server and she took care of us here on out. There was a halibut special that one of our party ordered, 2 NY's were ordered, and I got the biggest end cut of prime rib I've ever had in my life! It was not only big, it was tasty! We had a local Pinot noir from Morgan, the 12 Clones, that worked for all entrees. We ordered multiple desserts and all of them were bomb!!! The affogato was SO GOOD!
