Had a great classic evening dinner here. The ambiance and people watching is terrific-- food takes a back seat to the back drop in my opinion. The service was fine, drinks were ok, and food was good. You have to know what you're getting coming here-- more for the experience than the food. Timeless place!

Mission ranch can't be missed when visiting Carmel! The atmosphere is so serene - the view of the ranch with the sheep, and the ocean peaking in the background is something really special. I came here fully acknowledging that dinner at Mission Ranch is likely more for the experience than the food itself. I was pleasantly surprised with what we ordered! The fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and carrot ginger soup being my favorite. We also got creme brûlée at the end and it was 10/10. Can't wait to come back for their cocktail hour!

We were looking forward to eating at Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch Restaurant. It was a good experience, but not a great one. The restaurant itself is an old farmhouse, and lends itself to the shabby chic. The place is clean and well kept, but certainly not upscale. We ordered the pork ribs and the baked sea scallops. We try to keep reviews as positive as we can, so of the ribs we simply say: choose another option. Like, for instance, the baked sea scallops! Delicious in a wine based broth with bread soaking up the goodness! Well worth ordering! Service was very good, with a staff who are friendly and accurate. Except for a few special occasions, the restaurant does not take reservations, so plan to arrive at least a half hour before you want to eat. The ranch grounds are beautiful and interesting, and worth a quiet walk after dinner. We liked it (mostly), and we think you will as well.

Love the food and ambience. We got there at 3pm. And its a bit overcast but that just compliment the vibrant sheep farm and foggy mountain from the outdoor table. Picturesque indeed. The dinner menu is not served until 5pm with reservation and priority for hotel guest. So its something to be considered for walk ins like us. But the appetizers and drinks and the server are nice and awesome. Shout out to jacob!

My mom grew up watching Clint Eastwoods show & has never been to Carmel so it was her first time & I thought why not take her here to his mission ranch. Came on a Sunday for their brunch! We got there 30 minutes early and there was already a long line. Bathrooms are located directly where the line is near the entrance of the restaurant Staff seats guests groups at a time there was 2 ladies seating groups & they asked our preference inside or outside, we chose outside because it was a clear blue sky sunny day. Our waitress was lovely & after she took our orders for drinks water & mimosas we were up and grabbing our food. Inside a man was playing the piano. The view was breathtaking we had front row to the sheep grazing and even caught a few scratching their backs on the tree branches too cute. If you look passed the sheep you can see the beach. Stunning. We started at the dessert station to grab what we knew we could finish Then we made our way to the team of two gentlemen working side by side creating our omelettes, such hard workers and were really quick at taking omelette requests/cooking while keeping the line moving, at the end of the omelette station they're also cutting us our prime rib. Everything was tasty, they also have a fish/salad bar station & I was pretty stuffed but ended up getting a Greek salad at the end of my meal. By the time we left all the dessert was gone but staff was stocking more & there was still a long line outside. We will def be back for Sunday brunch when back in the area!

COME FOR THE VIBES!!!--but come early! I arrived circa 6:30PM on a Saturday night. They do not take reservations. You are seated on a first come, first serve basis. Being an hour and a half late, I was bottom of the waitlist (don't make my mistake!) That being said, there is plenty of entertainment: first off, this restaurant overlooks a giant pasture for sheep! Yes, you read that right: SHEEP! Once you tire of the scenic views (and sheep), you can sit at the piano bar, where I sat and chatted with some incredibly friendly locals! It really made the 2 hr+ wait fly by! (Again, my fault--this place is VERY popular)--and for a reason!! Once I was seated (8:35pm by this point), I got super speedy and friendly service! You can sit indoors (which I chose, as it was quite chilly outside) or on a patio with heaters overlooking the pasture with the sheep + Pacific ocean in the distance. Soon after I was seated, my server brought out garlic bread strips as the bread. These are SO GOOD!!! I ate about 4!! I also ordered a cup of New England clam chowder to start and the papperdelle bolognese as my dinner. I tend to be picky about clam chowders--this one had some veggies (carrots/peas) in addition to the standard clams and potato. It was flavorful and creamy. I liked it! Soon to follow like clockwork, my papperdelle bolognese came out. The papperdelle was ok, it didn't blow me away--something about the tomato sauce tasted too much like store-bought Ragu tomato sauce....but it was still good (just not amazing). Overall, I'd say: the food is good (not spectacular) but good. But the magic of this place is the people and the ambiance. I came alone and loved it! Come for the vibes!!!! I give them 5/5 stars purely for the fun I had! For anyone concerned about budget: my soup, dinner, and no drink (only water) came out to $45.70 (without tip).

Visited on a late Friday afternoon and it was already very busy. Apparently, they don't take reservations and if you are not there before 5:00Pm and willing to wait until they start seating, it is unlikely you will be happy. Because we only wanted cocktails and appetizers, we were seated on the outside deck in a very, very small area dedicated to same. Here is a brief overview based on 1-5 stars with 5 being outstanding: Location = 5, meadow and ocean views. Facilities = 3, old, dated, worn out, but historical in nature. Service = 2, staff is a combination of inexperienced and angry. Food = 2, nothing unique or flavorful. Although I appreciate the story of Clint Eastwood's involvement in saving this historical site, I wish more effort had been made in making the business as exceptional as the location.

The restaurant at Mission Ranch is a must when visiting Carmel. We got there at 4:30, waited in the bar and had a fabulous cocktail! We were seated promptly at 5pm when dinner service started. Lucky to get a window table so we could see the beautiful sheep grazing. The meal was delicious, I had the special sea bass and hubs had the filet mignon. Service was excellent, definitely recommend!

Saved from demolition and development in the 80s by Clint Eastwood and lovingly and gently remodeled, Mission Ranch has a homey, nostalgic feel. We ate in their casual restaurant that overlooks sheep and deer, in a field leading to the Pacific Ocean. The food was equally nostalgic with traditional entrees like prime rib, filet minion, rack of lamb, catch of the day, half a roast chicken, pasta and even cheesy bubbly potato skins. They don't take reservations, so we dropped in on a Friday and waited an hour for a table. The views are impressive, service is friendly, and dining here feels like time travel. Recommended.

Our first time visiting! We arrived on a Saturday around 4:45 to get in line for dinner service at 5. The line looked long, so I was worried, but when we put our name down they told us we'd be seated by 5:15, which was a nice surprise! We were seated right away, and the staff were very attentive. The complimentary garlic bread was fresh and delicious. We skipped appetizers and ordered our entrées quickly. My husband got the New York steak, and I had the fettuccine Alfredo. Unfortunately, it took a very long time for our food to come out. Tables seated after us were getting their meals before we did. Our server apologized and mentioned a large party slowing down the kitchen, but it was confusing since everyone around us seemed to get their food at a normal pace. When our dishes finally arrived, they were excellent. Definitely worth the wait. We shared the pecan pie for dessert, and both the pie and the ice cream were delicious. Overall, we didn't leave until after 7 because of the slow food service. Given the delay, it would have been nice to at least have dessert comped. Still, the food was great, the staff were kind, and the views are beautiful. We'd definitely come back!

We picked the perfect location to celebrate our 50th anniversary... Terrific location wonderful staff with a warm greeting! Our room felt like a cottage with that old school vibe with modern touches as well. Super relaxing environment and so fun to see the sheep grazing in the field. We enjoyed an excellent dinner as we requested a corner window of view away from the piano bar so we could enjoy a relaxing dinner ! We definitely wanna come back... Very relaxing and chill !

Cute sheep in the background. The black one is Dublin.

I would like people to come in deliver drinks and food a little faster. I am not sure if servers realize how tacky it is too question people whether they're gonna stay there a while or longer right from the start. It makes you feel like you're not as important when people don't seem to really care about the service. The food was fine, but not extraordinary. The drinks were amazing, but I felt like they took a while delivering them. The view is outstanding, and the places is just awesome. They could elevate their service by bringing drinks and food faster. It would be best if they don't ask you any questions and just bring you in as it doesn't matter how long they're planning to stay. I recommend this place.

We found Hidden Gem through Yelp, and arrived as a walk-in. While we would have loved to sit outside in the warm weather, the patio was full and we were seated inside the restaurant. For all the cute restaurants you can find in Carmel, Hidden Gem is... not one of them. It felt oddly stripped down and incomplete inside - almost like they were redoing the interior and hadn't finished the job yet (perhaps they are?). While the restaurant was relatively full, I wouldn't describe it as packed. But from the time we ordered our food to the time the last of us received our food, it was a full, legitimate, 1.5 HOURS (I timed it). During this time, not once did anyone from the staff ever come up to us to address the excruciating wait, apologize for the delay, or even provide any sort of update. We were left waiting with no clue what was happening. Even getting a refill on our water or coffee proved difficult - it was hard tracking anyone down, and it usually took at least two follow-ups for it to actually happen. And when we did finally receive our food, it was incredibly underwhelming. We ordered an eggs benedict, two breakfast sandwiches, french toast, and the skillet. Virtually all the meat - most notably the sausage and the bacon - was burnt, with a charred taste masking any potential for flavor. The potatoes were wet and undercooked. The french toast was soggy and flavorless. Sadly, the best part of our entire meal was the bread on the sandwich and the side of toast that came with the skillet. I'd also be remiss not to mention that every single one of us felt nauseous or unsettled, and some of us borderline sick, after the meal. Given how many positive reviews I see of this place, I'm thinking we must have come on a really, really bad day. This gives me hope that our brunch was simply a one-off and that it's not usually like this. But everything, from the ambiance, to the service, to the food, was incredibly disappointing.

That level of attentiveness really stood out to me. He was fast, efficient, customer-focused, and brought such positive energy to the restaurant. So many restaurants struggle these days with finding employees who seem trained, experienced, and genuinely engaged -- Razi was the complete opposite. He was outstanding. I even made a point to share positive feedback with the owner before leaving because great employees deserve recognition. I honestly could see Razi managing this restaurant -- or another one -- someday. The custom-made plates and bowls used for each course added another layer to the overall aesthetic and artistry of the meal. It's hard to fully capture how memorable this dinner was, but it easily ranks as one of the best dining experiences I've had.

I'd spent the morning hiking around Pfeiffer Beach and arrived in Carmel in the early afternoon. I was looking for basic sustenance. On the menu it didn't appear fancy-- a basic grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque. The combination was delivered to my table hot and fresh. I waited for a few minutes so as to avoid burning my tongue. I observed the bread was crispy, and the cheese combination was nicely melted. The bisque had a nice aroma. The first bite of sandwich was perfection, and following it up with a spoonful of bisque was pure rapture. I was impressed by a humble grilled cheese sandwich because it was made to perfection.

Calamari was very lightly breaded and maybe it was timing but not as crisp of breading as I prefer. That said, it tasted good- I just prefer more crunch. The truffle fries were GREAT. Extra crispy, perfectly salted and seasoned w truffle. I shared the nicoise salad and roast beef sliders - the salad was good, the meat of the sliders was good and the crispy onions were a nice touch. The actual sliders were a tad dry. I think an au jus would've paired perfectly with this and resolved any dryness problem. My boyfriend got the Brophy's burger - extremely cheesy and loved the mushrooms. I'm not often in Carmel, but if I am and need a solid, casual bite, I will definitely be back!!

The fish…read moreand chips were pretty good--different than I expected, maybe cause of the oil they use for Mediterranean food or something? Still tasty tho. The surf and turf fajitas were solid, and everything seemed fresh made which I really appreciated. The tandoori shrimp appetizer was what I was most excited about but honestly, it let me down a bit. I'm a big fan of tandoori and use the seasoning at home a lot, but these had kind of a burnt bitter flavor, maybe the seasoning got a little over toasted on the grill? Not terrible, just not what I hoped. The place itself was super clean. Like really clean. Dining area was spotless, staff was warm and kept our drinks full without even asking. Bathrooms? Immaculate. Even had air freshener on the shelf for a little spritz after taking care of business. Respect. All in all, it was a nice meal and we enjoyed the experience. Would def go back next time we're in town.

This spot caught our attention so we gave it a try based on the menu that was posted outside. The place is small and will hold a max of 49 people. There were two guys that handled the service and they were very attentive. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip ($17) as an appetizer that came with pita bread. It was served piping hot and was provably the best I've had. We then ordered the bacon cheeseburger ($27) and fish & chips ($25). They were both good and came with fries which unfortunately were not hot. We were pressed for time so didn't try any of the desserts.

We were seated right away without reservations. The place looks smaller than it is - they have a bunch of outdoor seating. It is a typical diner style establishment. And I'm not sure how accessible it is unless you know exactly where to park - there's a lot of stairs around. But it is a really cute location with lots of nice flowers and landscaping around. I can't remember our servers name - but he was really wonderful & had a great attitude. I ended up going with a custom skillet & my partner chose the biscuits & gravy and brisket chili. My custom skillet was super yummy & I was pleasantly surprised they had vegetarian sausage! It was well seasoned & the mushrooms were thinly sliced & cooked to perfection. I actually really enjoyed this meal. My partner really enjoyed his biscuits & gravy and thought it was one of the best ones he's ever had. He also was starstruck over the brisket chili, so I would definitely say to get a cup of that if that sounds like your thing. I would definitely stop back here on my next visit to Monterey/Carmel. The food was worth it though, and everything tasted fresh and homemade like the name suggests. Loved the little store attached to the restaurant too. It was fun to browse after eating. The surrounding shopping area is also really nice to walk around and explore. A highlight for my daughter was the Mickey Mouse pancake! Overall a solid stop if you're visiting Carmel and looking for a good breakfast or brunch spot.
