I had my first ever driving lesson yesterday and I thought I did okay, but at the end of my lesson, the instructor just started mouthing off how I needed to improve this and so on and so forth. But the entire 2 hours I was driving she wouldn't say much about my driving so I wasn't sure of my driving. I'm a new driver and the fact I told her that and she still didn't take the time to explain certain things to me was very frustrating. All to say she kept going on her phone, took a phone call, and left her ringer on which was really distracting. When we went on the highway, she failed to let me know so I was super nervous and she just said drive. I would love to just drive but IM STILL LEARNING. Writing this on behalf of my mother who booked lessons with this school for my sister- This has to be the worst driving school in the area. The instructor was consistently late and ended lessons early. She made fun of the student, laughing about how bad her driving was. The instructor took her shoes off during the lesson and began to pick her toes- you can't make this stuff up. She had the student drive to her own house and wait outside in the car while she went in for 15-20 minutes. This happened twice. Told us it was illegal to practice in around the DMV after specifically telling us on the phone that they will take the student around the DMV to practice. The instructor took the student to Costco to get gas and they ended up waiting in line for a while. Since these were timed lessons, we would have expected more driving and less sitting around and waiting. read more

Would you have a student driver with very limited skills and a lack of confidence on Vallecitos Road and Niles Canyon Road (Basically Hwy 84)? My wife thought the traffic was bumper to bumper and stopped due to an accident. However, it was a student driver who was having trouble driving within the lane and was holding up a line of traffic a 1/2 mile behind them. The instructor did not instruct the student to pull into any of the turnouts along the way to let the long line of vehicles behind them pass. Instructors need to have enough experience driving but also the ability to evaluate the student's skills and confidence before taking them on a difficult stretch of road. If you see any vehicle with a Mission Driving School bumper or window sticker and a Student Driver sticker, I would recommend driving the opposite direction. Instructor was on her phone the whole time having a loud and obnoxious conversation. She was also sick our first session, coughing and sneezing loudly without covering her mouth. Needless to say I also got sick immediately after. I was just driving the car around town wherever I wanted and she did not care where I went or what I did. She paid no attention to anything but her phone. My driving did not improve at all as a result of this session, it couldn't even be called a lesson because there was nothing being taught and no advice being given. read more

Terrible, terrible, terrible!! I am a competent and confident driver who called and requested a 2 hour driving lesson so I can be prepared to pass the CA DMV driving test. The instructor was 5 min late (which is ok but a call to say she was on the way would have been appropriate) and rudely told me to come outside. She was very hostile and anti-social and had a thick accent that was hard to understand. She asked me do I drive, I said "yeah, I drove to Death Valley and back last weekend" to which she responded as she filled in her paperwork, "so you don't drive". Um, ok She was clearly very unhappy and said she didn't like instructing in Oakland. She seemed to imply (she was quite hard to understand) that I needed her approval if I wanted to go for the DMV Driving Test and after this lesson she would decide whether I would be ready or need to take more lessons from them (scam alert!!). On the roads of downtown Oakland she was a nervous wreck in the passenger seat. She gave very little verbal instruction and kept seizing the steering wheel out of my hands even when we driving down a 25m street for no apparent reason. 'You're steering is not good" she said. Whenever we approached a STOP sign (or anything else for that matter) she would slam on her brakes just as I was easing into mine. At one point on Grand Ave, near the Lake, a car pulled out in front of us and she flipped out "AAAGH! SEE WHAT I MEAN?? ITS TOO CRAZY HERE!! AAAGH, SO MANY BICYCLE!!!" A driving instructor who is terrified of driving in my neighborhood. Wow The lesson concluded after 30 min. After she had seized the steering wheel from me again and I let out a sigh and she told me not to be stressed. I said "I'm not stressed, you are a REALLY bad teacher, you are, REALLY bad. You said said from the outset that you don't want to be here and are scared of driving in Oakland, and you keep grabbing the steering wheel from me, I just drove around the Sequoia and Death Valley last weekend, if there's one thing I know how to do its how to turn a corner." She responded "Ok, let's see you take this turn right here" I did it, easy peasy, pulled over the car after the traffic lights and asked for my driving permit back because this lesson was not working out for me. The next morning I called and left a message about my experience and demanded a refund ($99). I was called back soon after and the person on the phone said he would refund me. I got a text saying later that I should see the refund on my account in 5 business days (that was yesterday). I appreciate that but in my 37 years on this planet, I have NEVER met anybody that was so bad at her job. He was also courteous enough to inform me that he is willing to go with my son for his test. He did bring my son back early but agreed to carry over the time to the next session. Driving School?? More like HIT & RUN School!!!!! Today at 5:55 pm, this car hit my car and drove away. They did not step out to talk to me when I, myself, got out of my car. When I stepped out, they just drove away. I was behind them on Hansen Ave, where it meets Blacow Rd. in Fremont. They made a stop and pulled forward to make a left turn. When they pulled forward into traffic and decided to back up. I was stopped at the stop sign, and they back right into me. I could not back up to give them space because there were two cars behind. My car's license plate now has dents in it. Thankfully there was very minimal damage and no injuries. However, they did not step out to talk to me and discuss what had happened. There was a man in the passenger seat and someone in the driver's seat who had a man bun. I could not tell if it was a lady or a man because the driver had a mask. I followed them and flashed my headlights at them, honked at them to pull over, and signaled with my hand to pull over. However, they did not do it. They are a driving school; they should know better and teach the proper methods to student drivers. Since they decided to run away, I decided to call 911 and report this incident to them. Officer Shanon talked to me and was helpful. I am thinking if I should or should not write a letter to DMV to convey that this driving school's car was involved in a hit and run. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS WHO ARE JUST STARTING TO LEARN TO DRIVE TO THIS SCHOOL! The worst experience on day 1 for my daughter. Went for a 2 hr class. She gets picked up from home by a lady instructor sent from the school and within 30 mins she is home crying and not able to speak.. reason - the lady instructor got mad at her for not knowing to drive .. abused her by calling her names and then also gave in a statement that my daughter shouldn't be driving ever in her life. Did she expect a professional driver of my kid on day 1? I am wondering how skillful she was on her day 1 of taking up any skill or work. My daughter's confidence has been shattered on day 1 - within 30 mins of her sitting on the driver seat. On speaking with the school, they keep defending her saying she has 7 years experience. Being a teacher needs the utmost patience and treating students with care. You cannot have anger control issues and lose patience with kids or anyone for that matter who are coming in to learn. Why else would a person come to a driving school if they were skilled enough to drive.? On top of of that, the lady did not have the basic decency to come home and let an adult know of what went wrong and cancelling a 2 hr session early. Talking to a minor in such a way is the lowest point that you can hit! No years of experience can teach you the basic social skills. I took one 2 hour class in October 2020. My overall experience was super underwhelming but I didn't bother to write a review as I thought all driving schools are like this. Recently I went with another class from Fremont and then I understood how bad this class was. I will leave down my pros and cons so that you could decide for yourself. Pros: 1. Cheapest one I found. 2 Hour class was just 99 usd then Cons: 1. The car is super old. I can't emphasize it further. It has dual steering which makes the car even difficult to steer the already old car. To be honest I felt like I was driving a car without power steering. Initially I thought all cars in driving schools would be like this until I went to other class. 2. The instructor was an old gentlemen with a thick Indian accent. Being Indian myself, I found him hard to understand. Finally I resorted to speaking with him in Hindi language. Don't recommend to people who don't know Hindi or Punjabi. The car itself doesn't have dual steering wheels and brakes so the teacher is unable to control student driver should they have to. The driver has a very low voice with a thick accent that is hard to understand. Save yourself the call and call a legit licensed driving school that has an A+ score with the better business bureau. I did not feel comfortable driving with the instructors at this school. First off, the car in my first two lessons was run-down and I was put off by the smell. The instructor however slightly boosted my confidence in driving. However, the lady instructor in the 3rd lesson was so rude and I was shocked by her horrible attitude. She had the nerve to complain to me that I did not have enough experience to drive with Mission Driving! Lady, I'm supposed to be taking driving school to learn how to drive, what's the point of driving with you if I already have enough experience? Although I did learn some basic driving skills the experience wasn't really worth it. My first lesson went okay, despite, the car being really old. The teacher also brought his wife in the back where I had to drop her off some where. However, I wasn't really bothered and didn't have any major complaints with this lesson. The second lesson I got a different teacher (lady) where she came an hour early and parked on a speed bump blocking my neighborhood entrance. Since she came an hour early I didn't have my permit with me as it was in my moms car and she wasn't home. As I was rushed, I forgot to put in my contacts so I told her I wasn't able to drive. She told me I could drive nearby and proceeded to be extremely rude. My mom ended up coming home so I drove back and continued my lesson where I went the same route as my first lesson. At this point I wasn't learning anything besides being yelled at for little mistakes. This car wasn't even equipped with two steering wheels like their website states so she kept clawing onto my wheel. Now, for my third lesson I requested my first teacher as the lady was rude. When he came, he told me I would go on the highway and up hill and down hill. The lesson went okay, however, this time the guy was a bit touchy which made me uncomfortable where he would constantly pat my shoulders and call me a good girl LOL. Honestly, I don't think he meant these actions to come off weird, but in a friendly way, but it was uncomfortable and strange to me. At the end of the lesson, he hugged me which I thought was even more weird. Even though he teaches with patience and is kind, it is not an experience I would like to go through again. Devi is the worst instructor to be with! She was extremely condescending, rude, and unprofessional. My daughter was very confident with driving prior to her lesson and was completely dejected after her lesson. Devi was not accommodating at all and my daughter said she would snap at her if she made a mistake. However, by being so rude and over-correcting, she made my daughter more nervous and prone to mistakes. An instructor is supposed to be supportive, encouraging, and provide constructive criticism. I was extremely disappointed yesterday with the female Indian instructor . T1. he appointment was supposedly be 2pm. She called me prior to that and asked whether we can make it at 1.35 PM. Since I do not have anything to do that time, it was fine to start it at 1.35 PM. However, going forward, kindly respect the time agreed. When I was trying to move the schedule for few hours ahead, I was not allowed to because there was no available slot. She gave me a reason that "since she is in the Oakland area, might as well start the lesson earlier." Kindly take note that the schedule will not depend on instructor's convenient time, but the time both parties agreed upon. 2. My total fee is $275 for 6- hour training. I paid $50 online and owe the remaining $225. I was instructed by the secretary to pay the remaining during the first class. I told the Indian instructor while driving that I forgot to withdraw money so we need to go to ATM. She immediately called her fellow colleagues and reprimanded why she was not informed that I needed to pay. For polite and courtesy to customers, if you have internal disagreements, it is appropriate not to talk about it in the front of the student/ customer. She called her colleagues and talked over the phone (in front of me), argued how displeased she was. Whatever are the internal problems, kindly avoid talking in front of student/ customer. 3. I failed my DMV behind the wheel exam for the first time. The reason I enrolled at Mission Driving School is hope that I can be more confident with the driving. I am a nervous student driving and not confident myself. The Indian driver, instead of being supportive and acting like a teacher, was most of the time nagging at me about the mistakes/ failures that I made. I am sorry that I am not a competent student. The strategy of the female Indian instructor was offending rather than motivating. 4. Since I owe the remaining $225, I paid the amount to the Indian instructor. I was very skeptical because I was trying to ask for the receipt and she could not give me one. I understand that instructors do not have receipt on hand. However, what kind of documentation do I have to take in order to evidence that I have paid the $225. Are you suggesting me that I just gave $225 cash, leaving no trace that I paid for it? I asked that she wrote in a piece of paper that she received $220 ($5 still pending) from me and she disrespectfully banged everything just to show that she did not like the idea. read more

This guy teaches how to be ILLEGAL. I was practicing my motor cycle with another bike practitioner at Fremont DMV on Sunday evening. This driving school instructor has instructed his student learner to drive into the Bike area (which is illegal) onto my bike. I was trying to explain him not to instruct the students to drive into the Bike Practicing area. This school instructor (An old man with beard and head covered) told me that its illegal to practice bike there. There is a DMV security near by and spoke to him if I can practice, he told me its absolutely legal to practice there when the DMV is not in session. Called them to make a booking for 2 hours driving lesson for the first time with them. After a bunch of back and forth calls to check with driver availability they booked me for 2 hours on Saturday midday. After I cancelled plans and waiting for half an hour with nobody showing up or even a call, I call them back. I find not only do they not know who I am even though I spoke with them a day before, they cannot find my booking, my name or anything so they say "Oh let me call someone else and find out and call you back". Thanks a bloody lot for wasting my time and Saturday! Had I known you would not bloody show up I would have called a different driving school and made other plans for my weekend. Pathetic that you would treat your customers like this. As for the comment below it is an outright lie! I was told I could pay or book online, I said I would prefer to pay cash for the lesson and was told it was fine and I should pay the cash to the instructor when they arrive! I had a very bad experience with this driving school. I had booked an appointment with them specifically because of the fact that they said that they had a lady instructor. However, when the instructor showed, it was a guy! When I asked them what happened to the lady that was supposed to show up, they said "Oh she's not available..." I was so disappointed that they didn't even inform me in advance that she wouldn't be available. I asked if she would be available another day and they said "No." Wow, was scammed being initially told they had a female instructor! So ended up not taking the lesson, and when I asked them for a refund as it was THEIR fault, they said they wouldn't refund me for that lesson. So they ended up charging me for a whole two-hour lesson that I never even received. Whatever you do, don't use your credit card on their site to signup to anything. Two of my boys signed up for online drivers ed at $25 each. Among the two charges, I saw an extra $89 charge. There wasn't even anything you could purchase on their site for $89. An email threatening chargeback got me a quick response from "customer support". No apologies or explanation on what went wrong, but I got my money back. I won't be surprised if they store the credit card info you enter on their site in plain text somewhere to help themselves to extra money. read more

This school was very disappointing. My nephew took one lesson here, and had a very hard time understanding the instructor as he had a very strong accent. The instructor also, literally, shouted instructions at him. The instructor also got him to drive to the school's office to "get something", and spent 20 mins of the lesson inside. I would highly warn against this unprofessional school, even though they have a nice website. In the end, my nephew tried the Bayhill Driving School. His new instructor, Gill, had handouts with pictures of lane markings and how/when to turn etc., which already indicates much more of what you would hope for in a driving school. My son had horrible experience. Couldn't understand the instructor. The instructor yelled and called him names! If I had known at that time -- I overheard my son talking to another friend who had the same experience. Thus this review. We put him with another school from warmsprings (4.5 stars) and had best experience with very nice and encouraging instructors. He passed in first attempt. read more

I did not even book a session. I was very put off by the attitude of the woman that answered the phone. After calling from work at least 5 times (with no answer) I finally got through from my cell phone on my way home from work. The lady was so rude and had no customer service skills. I ended up changing my mind. Is this the kind of company that I want to teach my kid to drive??? I think not. I ended up printing out an informative book from the DMV website and set aside two hours to teach my daughter on my own. read more

instructor had an obvious attitude, slammed the brakes a lot, giving 2 stars because she showed up on time. she was pretty anti-social and had a thick accent making it hard to understand her. she just had a really cold vibe to her and I felt super uncomfortable the whole time. read more

My 19 year old grand-daughter used her own money to book a couple sessions with Mission Driving School. The first lesson, with a woman, was ok. She returned from the second lesson, with a heavily accented male instructor, completely traumatized. The man continually touched her as she drove, which was highly inappropriate, and, because she is an inexperienced driver in a completely unfamiliar city and it stressed her out, dangerous. She was intimidated by him and too afraid to complain. She also was "yelled at" in an impatient way, adding to her stress. According to her he also overcharged her at the end of the lesson which she did not argue about because she just wanted to get away from him. She filed a complaint-- about the touching-- with the Hayward PD. Aside from all that, she felt his instruction was very poor. She chose this school because it was the cheapest. Obviously a very bad deal at any price. This mans' behaviour was totally unprofessional. read more

UPDATE: Since writing my very accurate review I have been contacted by the owner of this driving school several times via email. He initially led me to believe that he was concerned and wanted to make our experience with them in some way right. That is far from what happened. He could have been professional and referred me to the bottom of their website where it says "FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE" and that would have ended any further communications between us. BUT, after going back and forth over emails, having him basically tell me we were lying about our experience and that he believed the "log sheets" he reviewed from his driver. Even though the information that he says is on the log sheet is not accurate AT ALL. He proceeded to then tell me the following, "You wrote a false "review" on Yelp with Mala fide intention to tarnish our company's good name, and for that I am going to sue you and claim damages in the court of law. " I have NEVER written a review in bad faith about any company. It was NEVER my intention to tarnish any ones name only to share my experience. My soul purpose in writing my review about the Mission Driving School is to help someone else make a better choice before spending their hard earned money for services that may not be rendered. I suggested he read ALL the reviews and see that it's NOT JUST ME who wrote what appears from further interaction with the owner and the company to be a extremely accurate account of my experience. I will also be reporting them to the BBB. Do yourself a favor and choose elsewhere. read more
