This place could have easily been a 5 star from me, since it is around the corner for me, has a good selection of liquor (if you are looking for good to fine wine, this is not your stop) and the hours are perfect for a late night refill. I was there on a Saturday afternoon (around 2 pm) in a search for basic ingredients to a good margarita (triple sec and tequila). Since I didn't feel like going to a grocery store for limes, I decided to get some margarita mix too. Like all stores, I first walked around checking out their beer quality and wine before hitting my list. As I walked in, the place is completely empty, the clerk (Indian guy, looks like an owner but not sure) is jamming some pretty good tunes. And...that's went everything went down hill. As I made my way from left to right at the store, the clerk unshamefully turned off the radio and stared me down like I was about the hold up the place. I mean, his tactic was not even subtle! At first, my initial thought was meh, who cares. But his stare down become very umcomfortable and about 4 minutes into to browsing I decided to get my stuff and get the hell out. For the life of me, couldn't find the triple sec, asked the clerk what aisle it was located and the guy yelled out the answer even though I was standing right next to him by the counter. I remember thinking at that moment, should I just say fuck this shit. Walk out and take my business elsewhere? Nah, I thought. I'm already late for the party and instead I'll fight back with an honest Yelp review. No one deserves to be treated this way. For sure I will never be back to that store, and instead found another around the corner liquor store. I don't expect customer service to be a rolled out red carpet event. But a simple hello when customers walk and in basic human behavior that doesn't make your skin crawl is all I ask for. So, to even this out, I found a new place to buy my margarita ingredients for future summer parties. The 15yr is so smooth w/a reasonable price that you don't need a second mortgage for. I took the Johnny Walker & traded it in. I had to add a few more dollars but I got my Preferred single malt. The selection is vast & me being the uneducated I asked some questions about the single malts there. In the end I went w/a safe option. I truly liked that they had some good prices for a corner Liquor Store. We get our stuff and then realize we need to add value to our Ventra Card and found out that the store can add value boy did that help us from having to hike all the way back to the train. When we go back the employee that was there was all laughs and he was talking to us as well as the other customers that was there. You would have thought you walked into your favorite bar the way the delivery guys, the employees and customers interacted. Stopped in bc my momma found out about this business when shopping at the Cermak. Please go and check this place out. It has a sign out front that says Icebox Liquor maybe he didn't get his name changed legally on his receipts but now I can see that this is the place to go and get beer when you're stopping at Cermak grocery across the street. Such a friendly business such a great owner and an amazing selection of beer! And booze too! Currently under orders not to be open after 9, but hopefully enough people come to this newer liquor store while the owner is sorting out how to make this business succeed.
