I liked this food court place, because it was very clean. We ordered egg soba soup, tempura noodle and chicken plate. The food was decent. We waited 8 mins for our order to come out. Baaaaaaa!!! Twice I have veered off the Santouka path when coming to Mitsuwa and regretted it. Thought I'd try Misasa and give it a good chance and got taught a lesson. I'm never getting tempura here again. The last time I got tempura zaru soba, the tempura was cold and veggies so undercooked that I couldn't even stomach it. Unfortunately it isn't always available... only available when they have it as a special, even though it is listed on their regular rice bowl menu - I learned that the hard way, *tear*. I'm not a huge fan of Japanese curry, so I haven't explored much of Misasa's menu. I did try their cold soba noodles with tempura, a-ok. My few co-workers who do stick with Misasa over Santouka (since they don't like ramen!?) seem to always be happy with Misasa's bento box and other rice bowl options, and never have had any complaints. I've been here three times, and I have to defend this place because I have never received incredibly slow service or extremely bland food. Misas is a GREAT ALTERNATIVE to the other places to eat around here and definitely a lot cheaper! To get a good meal at this particular Mitsuwa, you have to be willing to dish out at least $8-10 bucks. Misasa can get you a full sized meal for at most $8 unless you're willing to upgrade to a muchhh bigger dish. I can't really comment much about the decor because it's in the Mitsuwa food court so you have to deal with just about the same thing that Santouka and that other place have to deal with: competition for seats and claustrophobic table positions. The food however is particularly scrumptious in my opinion! I got the pork curry with rice and salad which came on a huuuuuge plate that definitely got me full! I wasn't exploding from the gut....but for what it's worth (Just under $8), it has a value bonus. You can get a bunch of mini add ons like little crunchy fried (onions?), spicy pepper, soy sauce, oil, salt, etc. but none of that is necessary. Just that simple curry sauce with rice was suuuper good and the pork cutlet was a pretty good size! Would I come back again? Probably if I was on a budget, then sure. Do I always want ramen? Yes, I agree it's not exactly Miyabi-Tei in the Costa Mesa Mitsuwa, but I think it's pretty darn close. Anyway, they offer other dishes, but I normally only get the pork cutlet curry. This place is basically the equivalent of Costa Mesa's Miyabi-tei. Everything is similar except they have the yakiniku-don which looks delicious! Too bad it sold out though. Wait sold out? Everything is more expensive than Miyabi-tei though, except for the Chicken and Pork Katsu Curry. And to think about it, this place is kinda expensive for a food court. So in the end, I ordered their ginger pork, one of my favorite dishes that is hard to mess up. The ginger pork came with well...ginger pork w/ a lot of onions (+1), some pickled veggies, cabbage, miso soup, and tofu! The tofu was nice albeit small. The ginger pork had a really, really strong heavy pork scent; the pork may be a little olddd or low quality but that was no problem for me. They forgot to put the dressing to the cabbage salad too. There was a lot of rice which is a plus, but I'd rather have less rice and cheaper prices than more rice. The onions were cooked til golden brown and had a nice ginger-licious flavor to it. The udon soup I'd selected was satisfyingly hot; the broth was flavorful (although lots of onions); and the udon noodles were a nice consistency. Just wish they supplied a real soup spoon vs. a plastic one (I, however, appreciated that at least it was a plastic "soup" spoon). I came here on Sunday with my boyfriend to grab a quick dinner and we really enjoyed our meals. We both ordered the pork katsu bowl with half cooked egg (you get a choice of half or fully cooked) and small udon combo. The wait was less than 10 minutes. One of the katsu bowl's egg was a little more cooked than the other and they offered to remake the whole dish, but we took it as is. We really appreciated their offer to make it perfect! Pork Katsu is not cooked as well as one in Costa Mesa; not enough bread crumb. I think the cook in this one is not good or this store just tried to cut the cost down because it's rent is higher (it's Irvine), than one in Costa Mesa. Very disappointing. I came here on a Saturday afternoon with 2 other people. We ordered the beef udon, sansai udon, and the curry pork cutlet dishes. And yes, i did try all 3 items. Both udons were 2 stars at best; that is, tolerable but definitely not preferred. (For comparison, I consider McDonalds and similar fast food places to be 2 stars). The udon broth was very light in taste - ie, lacked enough flavor. And the beef udon came with one piece of beef, which was nearly all fat with tiny bits of actual meat. The beef was inedible and the dish was not even worth the low price. Just disgusting. The curry pork cutlet was edible but if you've had Japanese curry before at a reputable place, you'll be disappointed. In fact, the curry tastes EXACTLY like packaged Japanese curry from the market. Even I can make this curry better than Misasa. And no, Im not being facetious! I will not be coming back here, and do not recommend this place. read more

I'm a huge fan of Miyabi-Tei in the Costa Mesa Mitsuwa. This is a poor imitation of it. I can't really put my finger on why, but the food is pretty sub par. The meat isn't always consistent. It's usually dry, and just doesn't taste the same. Perhaps poor flavoring. The sides they give you also aren't as good. Curry isn't as good.
