When I arrived, I was told there would be a wait, but no one could give me even an estimate of how long. There were only three other people in the waiting area, so I expected the wait to be reasonable. I was asked to pay my $30 copay before I was even called to the bs immediate attention and that emergencies can significantly affect wait times. My concern is the lack of communication. Had I simply been told at check-in that there was an emergency/trauma situation causing a significant delay, I would have had the information I needed to decide whether to continue waiting or seek care elsewhere. So I left after three and a half hours, $30 out of pocket, still feeling horrible, and without receiving any medical care. This was especially frustrating because this was my second visit to this urgent care. My first visit was in July for a UTI. I was prescribed a five-day course of antibiotics. My urine culture results were not provided to me until five days later--after I had already completed the entire course of antibiotics. I subsequently returned in September with the same symptoms, only this time they were worse. I understand that urgent care facilities can have unpredictable wait times and that emergencies happen. What I don't understand is the lack of communication with patients and the delay in receiving important test results. Three and a half hours is a significant amount of time to spend at an urgent care, particularly when there was no indication at check-in that the wait could be that long. If I had been told upfront that there was a trauma patient causing a significant delay, I could have made an informed decision about whether to stay or seek care elsewhere. After two visits, both involving significant frustration, I will not be returning to this urgent care. Patients deserve timely communication and enough information to make informed decisions about their care.
