My son was attending College of the Redwoods where he played football and attended Community College. During Christmas break he received a call from Coach Melby telling him what a wonderful school they had and that they would like to talk to him about a track and field scholarship. Within 72 hours he and his dad were on a plane to Minot ND. He and dad got him settled into his apartment across the street from the campus and he transferred immediately. Not only does he love his new surroundings, but he loves the support that he gets from his coach, his team and the school. He has done better here academically than at his previous schools. The school has an all encompassing team that keeps the students motivated and focused. He has returned to full time Track and Field and given up football (for the time being). He was so proud when he was able to have his name added to the indoor track as a record setter during his first semester. And a big bonus this year, no out of state fee's! All students pay the resident tuition! The crime rate in this area is very low and prices are so reasonable. A 2 bedroom apartment across the street from the campus, $350 a month. Utilities are around $35 per month. Living in California, I'm jealous. I wonder if he'd like me for a roomate? And there would be so many new places to YELP. Hmmmmmm. read more

Ok so maybe I'm a bit bias since my son just enrolled here as a new student athlete but I have to say I was impressed. First, it's important know we visited MSU and several other schools in North & South Dakota prior to accepting a scholarship here. Of all the campuses we did visit, I have to say the staff here was top notch. They made sure all of our questions were answered and they seemed to go out of their way for us. This is important because my son is a solid athlete but certainly is not ranked in the top ten in the national so the experience we got was awesome. Once of the most impressive things for me was the quality of their athletic programs. All of their facilities were outstanding and the vibe is what you would feel at a larger D1 school. By no means am I saying D1 has better athletes, but I do know they have more money to spend so Minot was a breath of fresh air. Waking the campus and attending orientation we felt the staff was genuinely interested in helping their students succeed. The cost of attendance is extremely reasonable and their student to professor ratio is outstanding. I'll update this review when my son completes his first year, but after a full week he can't stop telling us how much he likes MSU. Oh by the way, we'll see how a Southern California kid does in that severe weather when it hits. read more
