Best sandwiches in town! This corner coffee shop is lovely and serves excellent food and coffee…read more The service is...unique.Vigorous and effective rather than friendly, but for some odd reason it suits the place. Their sandwiches are fantastic! The choices are endless and all ingredients are fresh and yummy. All sandwiches are made to order so no need to fear for a soggy bread roll. Also their coffee is of good quality and so are their salads that are popular among the hungry businessmen and -women who come here for lunch. I like to come here for a late breakfast or brunch, or to just grab a sandwich on the go when in a hurry.

The pistachio thing tasted like cream on top of a roll of something. I thought it was not bad but the creme was not sweet at all which was interesting. The roll tasted more like straight up bread which was not what I was expecting! The chocolate pastry thing was small but very dense. That one was more sweet. The inside was very moist. There is also free water that you can get on the side as well.

Friendly and helpful people behind the counter made for a great experience. Great vibe and coffee with interesting pastries are not to be missed!

The atmosphere is nice and warm - mainly thanks to the lovely owner! I love that their dog and children hang out at the café adding to the cosiness. At the back is a tiny flower shop - what a combo! They serve excellent teas and coffees, as well as light meals like salads and quiches. They also serve brunch on the weekends. I must mention also the cakes: almost everything is self made and absolutely delicious. The ones that are not self made are carefully picked and usually from small local businesses. So why 4 stars instead of 5? The meals are quite light and often some friends with bigger appetite are left a bit hungry. A heftier option would be appreciated.

It's a gathering spot for several people, which is where I was heading after getting some breakfast. Cafe Engel is open all day, but for the earliest part of the day, they have breakfast, along with coffee and tea and pastries. I ordered a drip coffee and a cinnamon bun, which is a must have pastry anywhere in the Nordic world. And this one here at Cafe Engel was solid, and I liked that it was warm, making it extra tasty. For drip coffee, it's unlimited, which you can pour yourself. The cafe itself is a charming space, with many tables and chairs. When I visited, all of the tables by the windows were taken, which are the best spots because they look out to Senate Square. The staff were very nice, and it's the kind of place where you order at the counter and staff brings you your order at the table of your choosing. Casual and welcoming.

A great stop off for coffee & treats if you're in the neighborhood!…read more We stopped here for a quick take away coffee before we headed off to see some sights, but we succumbed to some pastries as well after seeing them in the display cases. Delicious! The strawberry croissant-like thing on the counter was particularly good - there was a slight sugary glaze on the berries that made them utterly delectable. Prices were fair, ok for Helsinki standards (1,95 for the large strawberry pastry), and the coffee was decent as well. There was also a nice selection of options for coffee fixings out on the counter - different milks and creams, and both white and brown sugar. Service was a little slow as there was only one person working, but certainly not the worst compared to some other places in the city. If you're walking by, don't hesitate to stop by and get a little sugar or caffeine derived energy!
