I had a horrific experience at Minda Lanes today. Because I missed last week due to work my son Ricardo filled in for me, it was my first time taking Andrew to this Special Olympics bowling league here. The league coordinator, told us to find a ball and get shoes and go to lane 6. Since it was busy and I was unfamiliar with the setup, I accidentally picked up a ball from a lane right next to us, assuming it belonged to the house. It was a complete human error.Instead of handling it professionally, the business owner took the ball from where I was sitting and began screaming at me in front of my autistic nonverbal son and the entire establishment. He verbally assaulted me, yelling, profoundly, accusing me of stealing. I explicitly told him it was an honest accident and that I was simply sitting there waiting for bowling to start that it was my first time there and I didn't know that, that lane was being used since I didn't realize I did something wrong and I did it in front of everybody because I was not stealing! I had got off work early to bring Andrew bowling. I was exhausted. I didn't even realize what color the ball was because I wasn't even paying attention. I just thought I'd grabbed house balls that nobody was using because nobody said anything to me when I grabbed them, I did hear an announcement about a lost ball It didn't even register in my head to me that it was me that grabbed that missing ball because I didn't realize what I did I was trying to keep Andrew under control because I thought his bowling session started at 12:30pm? the same time as last week Ricardo didn't give me no information for the following practice I had text the coordinator to ask if there was gonna be bowling. She didn't tell me what time I assume 12:30pm the same time as last week, Andrew was growing impatient and getting overstimulated due to all of the announcements and the noise he has sensory issues, so I went to go let the Special Olympics host know that Andrew was ready that we had his shoes and balls in the lane I didn't just grab one ball. I grabbed three balls thinking they were house balls from multiple places because I didn't know what I was doing due to lack of communication, where we were sitting there was no balls in lane 6 I was trying to have balls for our group I told her we were ready. She said to go ahead and have a seat that we should be starting shortly I said OK we sat there and had some birthday cake they were passing around, There was so much going on. I didn't even know what to do I was just sitting there waiting. I didn't even realize what I had done! I was so focused on keeping my son, calm I wasn't even thinking it's so stressful being a special needs parent. I kept telling this man that I understood! that I wasn't special needs! and that he didn't need to be causing a scene! He refused to hold his composure, escalated the situation, and treated me horribly, Other players and coordinators confirmed to me that this owner frequently displays this kind of unstable, nasty behavior. It is sickening that someone running a public business would publicly humiliate a parent of a special needs child over a simple misunderstanding. I only stayed so my son wouldn't have a meltdown because he loves bowling, but I felt entirely unsafe We just stayed for one complete round. I couldn't hold my composure to stay the whole time. This owner is completely unfit to deal with the general public. I will never spend a dime here again, and I am filing formal complaints with both the Better Business Bureau and the Special Olympics. I've also pulled my son out of this program due to us feeling unsafe, knowing that this owner did this during a special Olympics event neither the coordinator of the event stepped in to help de-escalate the situation. She brushed it off, like it was nothing because it was the owner when I identified him to her that he verbally assaulted me. and I apologize to her for grabbing that ball that I didn't realize what I did that It was an accident! Avoid this place at all costs!!! read more
