As a professional, I am appreciative of their ability to maintain legal and ethical boundaries with patients and external agencies. There are several agencies in San Diego that do not abide by these guidelines that I find troubling. I never miss appointments, but still, I won't expose myself to a policy that pushes any risk that comes with having a business onto clients. I understand having a fee and a 24-hr general policy, but to inflict such a high rate onto clients even if a last minute illness or emergency arises is unreasonable and unethical. What do they want, people showing up sick to infect the therapist and every subsequent client that therapist sees? That is what is implied with such an inflexible policy and there is no other interpretation for it. Profit first, therapist well-being way lower on that scale, client well-being at the very bottom. I'm not sure where the actual service or "care" falls on that scale; I guess it doesn't seem to me to be present at all, not in the eyes of the business anyway.
