I really do love this place, even though I only live up the road, this is where we had our first camping experience and it was great. You aren't alone either as this place is always packed to the brim no matter what season and other people that are staying there are willing to help you and you can make some great friends. If you want a pint, the pub is only up the road and does some cracking meals too. If you have travelled a long way then there is plenty to do like visit the little town of Uppermill or hop on to a train to Manchester which is about half an hour away. The Campsite is difficult to find unless you use an ordinance survey map or you know the countryside area well. Travelling from Birdwell you head down a road called Birdwell Common, as you pass under the M1 Motorway bridge notice a farm on your left handside, take to the dirt-track to the rightside of the farm. Head straight on until the track comes to an abrupt end, you are now at Rockley Campsite. The Campsite is used as a camping holiday destination by members of the Camping Club of Great Britain. Amenity wise the campsite hasn't much to offer apart from the usual toilet and washing facilities. But for people who enjoy walking and history the surround countryside is magnificient and steeped in history. "Ajoining the campsite is the ancient area of land known as Don Forest, formerly a deer hunting park. Near by there's also The Duke of Argyle's Monument", these are just two of the historic areas for you to visit whilst staying at Rockley Campsite. Well worth seeing.

To get in the shop you have to press the bell and be buzzed in, but don't let this put you off, there is no pressure to make a purchase, you can browse. They're just happy to be as helpful as possible and only want you to buy items you're completely satisfied with. I heard about Blackburns from a friend of a friend, and it was recommended as a good place to get walking boots. What a top notch recommendation. They are walking boot experts, they measure your feet in length and width and supply a wide range of boots to choose from, fabric or leather, heavy duty or lighter weight. They can also fit excellent 'Happy Feet' inner soles for those with flat feet. In fact, these inner soles are not just good for walking boots. They advise you to come in with a big bag of all your shoes, work shoes, trainers, all the shoes you wear, and they'll fit these inner soles to match as many as possible. A fantastic service. They cater for and are extremely patient with children. Once they have found you a couple of pairs of candidate boots you can try them out on their mocked up rocky path and jump about, check they feel right. The after purchase service is just as good, they can even stretch some boots if there is a problem spot, giving you jip. Boots are their speciality, but they also have a good selection of coats, tops, trousers and walking accessories.

The place is a bit of a maze, and i did get slightly disoriented while going around there. No problems with browsing goods and staff aren't always hovering over your shoulder. Store doesn't seem as well signed as others (so you end up looking at women's gear because it comes in better colours than the men's stuff) As with other cotswold stores it also carries the little stuff that you don't realise you need until you see it.

Originally called "Mitchells', 'Go Outdoors' is situated on the outskirts of Wakefield near to the National Mining Museum on the way to Huddersfield.The business and building was bought by Go Outdoors some 7 years ago and has thankfully improved vastly, with fresher product ranges and a fresher image although sadly trailer tents are no longer on display. A large outdoor grassed section enables tents to be demoed realistically, allowing the potential purchaser to just see exactly what a particular tent will feel like when they actually erect it and to see plain as day just what they will be getting for their money. From cheap festival tents to budget family tents that will sleep 5, to high performance technical tents for expedition and mountaineering use you will find a lot here. Inside there is a large range of clothing, hiking boots and equipment, rucksacks, sleeping bags etc etc as well as camp-craft products. There is everything you will ever need in here, from caravanning products to festival essentials. Big, reliable and 'designer' walking and tent brands are available at discount prices if you make a small investment in the form of a yearly-renewable membership card costing the princely sum of a whole english £4. It's worthwhile if you intend to buy a range of items in one go or intend to shop regularly here. There is also a 'Go Outdoors' own brand which is suited to those on a budget. I managed to grab an own-branded 'Gobi 4' 2 season tent in a sale which was an absolute bargain given its construction and features. The features of the tent would have been seen on a higher priced tent costing 4 times as much a few years ago such as blanket flooring, sealed seams and mud flaps. Although only a tent at the end of the day, it manages to make the camping experience just that little bit better. The quality of stitching and materials was superb and if you wait till the end of the season you can pick it up for 100 notes. I would definitely recommend this place as the own-branded -'Hi-gear' is pretty good value for the money. I've not had any problems when selecting some walking boots as the attendants did seem well-trained and knowledgable without ever being condescending or overtly 'selling.' I'd definitely recommend this place. It could benefit perhaps from a small cafe to allow people to discuss potential purchases and a bit more light towards the rear of the building, but then again this building has been here for over 40 years now.

It's not very well sign-posted to get there (just past Denholme on the main Halifax road is a small righthand turn past a pub and some houses) but its well worth looking out for. There is a small visitor centre that sells drinks and snacks and round the back there are plenty of picnic tables and a place to feed the ducks. At halloween they organised a fancy dress evening walk with fireworks which we absolutely loved!
