The wife and I have been interested in Mili for a while now. They're a pretty new restaurant, having been around for less than six months, but they've already popped up on the Insta's of some of Brussels most well known foodies. Living real close, we decided to invite a couple friends to dinner.
Having lived in China, albeit in the Jiangsu Province, I have a bit of experience with Chinese food. Sichuan is the Chinese cuisine featured most prominently, and I may even go to the lengths of calling it a Sichuan restaurant.
For those of you who hear Sichuan and think, "oop, well I can't eat here. I'll burn my taste buds off." He's some reassurance... Each item on the menu is given a chili rating. From zero chilies, which you can glean means it has no spice, to the dreaded five chili, which I can only assume they warn you about before ordering. In my opinion, the three chili dashes should be more of a one chili deal, but I digress.
We ordered gungbao chicken, mapo tofu, spicy fish slices in broth, and fried pork, along with a couple skewers I neglecting to photograph. Nothing was bad. I thought the mapo tofu missed the mark, but the fish was excellent. I could also have eaten my weight in the pork. The unphotographed aforementioned skewers were also, in my humble opinion, currently spiced comparing them to ones I often had in China.
All in all, Mili is nice. It was pretty empty when we went in there, but I think they can be quite busy, so book a reservation anyway. Would go back, only to try their other dishes. read more
