The North Shore is spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches. You are literally never more than 7 minutes (ish) drive from a beach. And a nice one at that. Milford Beach is often overshadowed by others, and definitely by it's neighbour - Takapuna Beach. And I've got to be honest, I think it's for good reason.
I don't know what it is about Milford Beach, I just don't really like it. The sand never seems that nice and it's got a lot of that ratty grass at the top of it, although now that I think of it, Takapuna has that too,
Maybe it's because there isn't much of a vibe. With other beaches, there are cafes near, boats around, events on, but Milford always just seems a bit dead. If you are looking for a really peaceful time though, this would be a goodie.
The best part of Milford Beach is the walk around the rocks to Thorne bay and Takapuna Beach. And there is a really great park at one end. I dunno, if you want a sunbathe and a swim then a beach is a beach really! read more
