I came to specifically try their watermelon cake. I kept hearing how good this was from my cousins. And it was a good time to snack on before getting on the train to get back. Checking the dessert case next to the register, I verified it was there and it was.
I couldn't tell if I needed to wait to sit so I asked. I was told you place your order and then try to get a table. I just wanted to get the cake and a latte but the burger smelled sooooo good and ordered that too. There wasn't much tables. I took one that just became available in a tight corner.
Staff is friendly once you get their attention but they love to talk to each other. This seems to be the norm every where. I found it tolerable accepting it as it is. There is no tipping so I guess it's a good trade off.
The latte was delicious. The warmth down my throat was welcoming to my cold body with a leather jacket. Another table, a better one got cleared, I moved to it. Much better, felt I could breath easier with my shopping bags around my feet.
It was a good tasting burger too. The little fresh greens and red onions went well with the savoriness. Served on a wood plate it also included a small spring salad with papaya strips. Wish there was more of that. It only took 3 bites before it was gone.
Finally, it was before me, the watermelon cake. It looked pretty with its' pinkish red stripe in the center. Very moist but not soggy. It wasn't like bread pudding cake either. Just a very soft, moist cake. The flavor of the watermelon came through too. Not very sweet either. This was sooo good I had to bring one back to share with Mog.
I'd like to try making this myself but I hope I will have another opportunity to have this cake again. Yes, I want to come back. read more
