The Mile Zero is a standard-issue roadside diner in an unassuming little motel, but their good ol' country cooking makes me want to clean my plate and ask for seconds. I've eaten at this restaurant quite a bit over the years, actually, but my recent visits featured some especially good meals, including a meatloaf sandwich served on garlic bread and flowing with gravy (make sure to get french fries on the side to soak it up with) and the Ukrainian dinner including perogies, sausage and cabbage rolls - with lots of sour cream and sauteed onions on the side.
It's not expensive and you get a lot of food for your money (dinners including soup or salad max out at about $16). The dining room is pretty basic and the food can come a little slowly, but the servers are nice ladies who work hard.
I was also happy to find a Shaw Open wi-fi hotspot here, which is a welcome feature for those of us addicted to our tech as well as hungry for some real-deal diner, homemade, comfort food.
There aren't a lot of people whose destination is the little town of Midway, but if you happen to be driving on the Crowsnest or cycling the KVR through the Boundary region, and you're hungry ... read more
