My mother in law absolutely loves plants. Each Mother's Day we take her out and let her pick all the plants she wants and we all pitch in to but them for her.
Today we decided to go to Mile High greenhouse and nursery
As we packed in the cart, the lady owner said we were blocking the isles and took our cart. We told her that we were using it and she told us it was too full to get another one, she would put it next to the Register. So we did.
As we got close to finishing up, we took our place in line. The lady owner kept giving us looks and saying "I know what 'You People' are doing!" We absolutely no idea what she was talking about. We tried asking but she made a scene and told us she knew what we were up to. She then told us she could refuse service to anyone and kicked us out.
This happened in front of friends and family we know from growing up in the area.
I do appreciate the lady's husband, whom apologized for the blatant outburst and assumptions that we were stealing plants.
I'm not asking anyone by any means to stop going here, just simply sharing the fact that there can be/ still is racism and assumptions going on today. That despite it being a celebratory day, malice and hate can still be around. read more
