I love Mike's Shave Ice! I went to their 1st pop-up at 20oz. Tea and I've been hooked ever since. Usually, you find them all around Seattle in the Spring and Fall and this year, they have a brand new Trailer to sling your Shave Ice needs. I'm a huge fan of their Halo Halo Shave Ice and that's usually my default, but they've been coming up with new and fun flavors. Mango Sago was really good last year, but this year my favorite has definitely been the Strawberry Lilikoi. It's so refreshing on hot days. This year, all their orders went online and the pre-orders sold out fairly quickly as they were so popular, but they were able to fulfill every order. The ordering system was organized and social distancing was practiced because they staggered their orders at different times. During non-pandemic years, you could find them at the Kirkland Farmers Market, which I live because they're on the Eastside! I can't wait until they come back next year. Realized I never wrote a review for the catering side of Mike's. The company I work for had Mike's cater one of our All Hands meetings last August. Our employees BBQ'd and the shave ice was the perfect dessert on a hot day. They did a great job, arrived on time were friendly and helpful. Masked and safe. The employees loved it, so much so we're using them this year as well think I'm going to place shave ice orders for the grill masters so they can have a taste of what they missed last year. This is the best Hawaiian shave ice in Seattle! I always look forward to eating this at the Live Aloha Hawaiian Cultural Festival every year, which is where my photo was taken. Hands down one of the best shaved ice I've had in Seattle thus far! I had the mango sago with ube ice cream. It was perfect for a hot sunny day! I got lucky and was able to order during the preorder before it was sold out! Serving size is enough for 2 people to share. I'm so happy to have discovered this delicious shave ice pop up truck! I took some friends there today after pre-ordering online, and we really enjoyed everything we tried. We had the halo halo, mango sago with vegan coconut ice cream, strawberry colada with ube ice cream, and lilikoi POG. I have anxiously been awaiting Mike's shaved ice next pop up and I was so pumped when I saw they were going to be in Downtown Renton at Boon Boona Coffee! One of my favorite local coffee shops, I typically try to run there during my lunch break when I can. My fiancé and I don't get to Seattle too often, so it was nice we could drive less than 10 mins to attend this pop up. We arrived around 11:30am and the event started at 11am. At this point, there was a smaller crowd awaiting their shaved ice, but nobody in line waiting to order. We skipped over the counter and decided to go with the Halo Halo & Mango + Sago shaved ice. Both were priced at $9 each and boy was it worth it!! We had to wait 10-15 mins for our name to be called and shaved ice to be ready to be picked up. Staff consisted of 3 people and they were super friendly. As we were waiting, Boon Boona slowly started filling up with people and a massive line started growing. It was popping! I was really happy to have beat the rush. The Halo Halo shaved ice was amazing. I was really drawn to it because of the UBE ICE CREAM. Seriously going through an ube phase ever since we went to Hawaii at the end of July. Coconut and red beans sprinkled on the side and a beautiful assortment of coco jellies, topped with condensed pick and crispy cereal. The mango and sago shaved ice was probably my favorite. It really brought me back to Hawaii, the ice was the perfect texture, syrup was tasty and not overly sweet. They make their own syrups and I am HERE FOR IT! I wish I had more stomach room to try other flavors, but I guess I'll have to hit them up for the next pop up. The coconut milk on top had little sagos (tapiocas) and reminded me of the Mango sago drinks i get in Chinatown / International district. Let me start by saying that if Mike's Shave Ice had a permanent location, I would probably be there once a week at a minimum! Prior to their arrival in Seattle, it was difficult (if not impossible) to find Hawaiian style shave ice here, so I'm super glad they are around! Over the summer, I went to a few of their pop-ups (2 at 20 oz. Tea and 1 at Dragon Fest). As others have stated, the texture of the ice is really smooth and almost like snow, rather than chunky ice. Also, their specials are awesome! To be honest, I like the specials so much (halo halo & matcha strawberry) that I haven't tried any of their regular flavors! I love anything matcha, so naturally that one is always my go-to. The syrups aren't too sweet and I love that it comes w/ boba as a topping. The vanilla ice cream inside puts it over the top! The halo halo is awesome too due to all the different flavors and textures w/ the jellies, etc. I recommend both! In addition, Mike and his crew are super friendly! Portions are pretty big so usually I share one shave ice, but since it's mainly ice, they aren't SO filling. You can easily eat one by yourself, especially since they are so good! Who doesn't love cold, refreshing shaved ice in the summer? I ran into Mike's Shave Ice at SLU night market and I'm hooked! Their Halo Halo Specialty Shaved Ice was so colorful, appealing to the eyes and tasted awesome! I was there when the event just got started, so thankfully, there wasn't a long line then. As a result, I got quite a generous serving of this goodie, too! I think they spend some time shaping the shaved ice and adding toppings, so you may have to be patient if there's a long line. But I love that it was so worth it...money and time wise! They have other offerings which you can customize with diff syrup flavors, but I highly recommend going for their Halo Halo! I especially like that they topped off their shaved ice with so many toppings like beans, variety of jelly, crunch stuffs, syrup/condense milk...and finally the ube ice cream! So lovely! My first time trying Mike's Shave Ice was at UW's Night Market. The line was super long but worthhh. The shave ice and halo halo we got from their stand was my favorite treat of the night. If I remember correctly I got the POG flavor and the thinly shaved ice and quality of the syrups is top notch. Yesterday, I enjoyed the halo halo at their stand at Dragon Fest in Chinatown. Again, it was my favorite treat of the entire event! It was hot as fuhhh outside so this was especially refreshing and sweet. For their halo halo, I really appreciate that they use high quality and authentic toppings. I've had many halo halos in the past that use lower quality toppings and it just comes across as tacky looking and noticeably less quality tasting. Mike's Shave Ice got it right with their variety of jellies, beans, and crunchy bits. The ube ice cream is the basic kind anyone can buy in an Asian grocery but the flavor is still great. The ice is shaved by hand by someone whom I think is Mike, but the womxn who rings you up and adds syrup and toppings is as integral to the shaved ice experience as Mike. I ordered a pineapple, passion fruit, dragon fruit-strawberry shave ice with condensed milk topping. The condensed milk balances the light texture of the ice and sweetness of the syrup. I wasn't a fan of the dragon fruit-strawberry flavor. It reminds me of the flavor of Kirkland Signature vitamin water. Too medicinal for me. Regardless, its a one size, 3 syrups max, 1 topping included operation for $6. They take card and cash, so there's no reason not to get shave ice in Seattle. The ice wasn't crunchy!! Most places on the mainland have ice that is crunchy or sticks together but that wasn't the case at Mike's. I'd have to say that his shave ice was pretty close to the shave ice in Hawaii - the only difference was the flavors. I got lilikoi, guava and lychee and the only flavor I could really taste was the lychee. It was a shame, but they had haupia cream that you could put on top that I really enjoyed!
