Boy, did these guys take ME for a ride! I had just bought a Jeep and was taking a trip around the country. I knew I would need to get an oil change a couple of times going around, and when it was time, we were in Gettysburgh. We had limited options, and Mike's Kars had good review, and he was a mile from our hotel... so... we took a chance. Pros: Seemed to do adequate work, we didn't have any issues with the car. They came and picked us up CONS: OMG where do I start. This guy ripped us off at every opportunity. 1. I had just purchased NEW bigger off-road tires and we had about 2000 miles on them. Mike decides it's time for my 41k service, and that included a TIRE ROTATION! He KNEW they were new tires. We wer traveling and exhausted and had exactly one day to get the oil changed before heading to our next destination, and extended our hotel to get this done, so I didn't THINK about it but he CHARGED ME $200 TO ROTATE BRAND NEW TIRES! 2. He told me my battery needed replacing, probably the original one, blah blah. I have no idea if it really needed it or not, but he used a scare tactic. I was traveling with my daughter and he mentioned "What if it doesn't start and you are in the middle of no where." I went ahead with the battery but he charged me a WHOPPING $400 FOR IT!! I called my dealer when I got home today and he told me a battery for that Jeep costs $100!! And that I got ripped off once again. 3. He also told me that my radiator fluid was turning acidic and needed flushing. ANOTHER WHOPPING $200+ for that. I asked my dealer who looked at the inspection report for my Certified Pre-Owned Jeep and the chemical report when sold to me was no where near what this guy was telling me. 4. He also said there was a leaky seal on one of the ball bearings and they "discovered" it when the rotated the tires. My dealer said a leaky seal could definitely have waited. 5. Finally, the oil change we came IN for. Instead of giving me Full Synthetic oil which everywhere else was $48, he gave me some kind of blend and charged me another $200 or so. When I got out of there he had stripped us of $1300. Two girls on a road trip. He saw us coming a MILE away and took advantage at every turn. My dealer said all of that would have been taken care of at ANY dealership and that this guy charged me about 4X what it would have cost and of course, the leaky seal and radiator flush, if it was really needed, would have been NO charge. So. They may do ok work, and they may be convenient. But they will take advantage, overcharge, and rip you off every chance you give them. I do NOT recommend these people at all and am MORTIFIED that they did this, and charged over $1300 for what should have cost us around $150. read more

I've had quality work done at Mike's, but the customer service leaves to be desired. I took an RV pop-up trailer in for an inspection a couple years ago, and they failed it based on the strap that was holding the battery in place. Supposedly, it wouldn't secure the battery in an accident, and the mechanic was insistent that it needed a better method to secure the battery. They quoted me about $300 to weld a frame that was more secure than the strap. The only thing is that the strap tying down the battery box is how RV trailers come from the factory and dealership. I fail to see how a brand-new trailer could be sold and pass PA inspection at dealers all over the state while my older pop-up wasn't safe enough. I brought the PA DOT inspection manual in (PA-45) and showed that in Subchapter G about trailers, there is no mention of securing batteries. (It has it in the chapters about cars and trucks, but not trailers.) Both the mechanic and the clerk were very rude and refused to look at the manual. The clerk even said, "I don't care what the book says; you're not getting an inspection sticker until you put a cage around the battery." It's been a couple of years since this has happened, and Mike's KARS sends me fancy postcards and emails reminding me to take my vehicles in for service. I've sent a few replies detailing my horrible service, but haven't heard any response. This is a slick-willie mechanic. They'll make sure you pay top dollar to keep their fancy facility in business. I used to like going here since it was convenient and they have shuttle. What I don't like, they push unnecessary repairs on you. They are not open Weekends, so if you work during the week, your out of luck. Now this statement I cannot prove happened after I went to mikes for an oil change, again, not accusing... I had oil change done and told I needed a gasket for oil pan. Said I didn't want to do that since no oil leak. Took car home no problem. The next day my car started to leak oil, but it didn't smell like oil. Took the car home with a buddy we put the car on the rack and noticed vegetable oil was on the underside of engine and pan. 8 months later I still have vegetable oil on my stained garage floor. Again, not accusing. Even had an independent mechanic check. But every time I let them fix "repairs" they found, at extra cost, there was never an issue. Won't be going back. read more

Just popped in for a state inspection. Live in Fredericksburg, Virginia car still registered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Not avoiding Stafford County property tax but stuck on having a personalised tag on the front of my ride so I'm leaving it like that until some VA PoPo make me do otherwise. However, I digress....Mikes joint was clean, efficient, professional, thorough and quick. Highly recommend these fine Americans if you need someone to take care of your ride. HOOAH!!! read more

I was on a long distance trip and under a lot of pressure to move from one state to another and found out my Toyota Sienna headlight was out. I called Jack at Mike's Kars from the road and explained my predicament. I was hoping to just stop in and make a quick pit stop to fix the headlight and get back on the road again very quickly. Well Mike's Kars had the part and was able to switch it out right away. They also checked all my other lights (their great idea) and checked my tire pressures at my request. They did all in the space of 25 minutes including paperwork and payment. The cost was extremely fair. This is important - they treated me like a regular customer even though they knew there was a good possibility they would never see me again. I don't really have the time to be writing this review because I am still in the middle of a move from one state to another, but when I see great service in this world I think it needs to be noted and shared with the rest of you. Exceptional service and pricing compared to my Mini Dealership in Alexandria, VA! The roads, or should I say potholes in the DC area take a toll on my Mini Countryman's tires. I was in the Gettysburg area visiting my parents and saw a bulge on my front passenger side tire. I called my dealership and they were going to charge me an arm, a leg and my first born child for one tire because mine were "special run flats." I immediately thought of Mikes Kars because they've been a lifesaver before and they ended up getting me TWO premium quality run flats for just about the same price! Great service today at Mike's. Went in at 8 am for a PA state inspection... knowing there was a good chance I would need tires. After about 80 mins I got word that I would need tires and a few other things. They sat right on the couch with me and discussed prices, and said it would all be done today. Someone drove me back home in a Mike's Kars van, and before 5:30 (closing) I got the call that my car was all done. Very fast service! I love how they make a full report on your car and include pictures. Definitely will be returning! The women at the desk know their stuff! read more

I was in Gettysburg on business and my car was vibrating at high speeds and upon breaking. Mike's Kars looked at my car, called with the diagnosis and some repair options, and finished the work the next afternoon. They were very friendly, professional, and it was an organized shop. I did think the price was a tad high although they do have a AAA discount. I was glad to have the work done before I drove home. The only other downside is that there were black smudges on my passenger seat that I had to scrub off. They said they have a two year warranty on their repairs and they pride themselves on quality work. Overall I would recommend Mike's Kars. read more

Where to start.... Took a vehicle there to see about having the air conditioning serviced. Recommended having entire AC compressor replaced.... However quoted us $2,000 to have the job done!!!! Best in mind an aftermarket compressor costs about $200 (they refuse to install any parts other than the ones that came from their own supplier). When I went to pick up the car, I inquired why it was so much.... They could not justify the $2,000 price tag... I asked what their labor rate was, to which they could not answer..... Their answer was "it varies"! Seems like a rip off scam. Charged almost $70 for the estimate, and another $200 to service the system (even though we just had it serviced two days before and showed them the receipt)... Seems like the norm around here for most garages to overcharge or charge a customer to look at a car for an estimate. Yeah, it looks clear, and has a comfy waiting area... But that isn't everything. Had the A/C fixed at a different garage for $525.... No problems since. read more

2.5 stars. The staff is courteous and the facility is nice and clean. They'll give you a big list of suggestions every time you go in and tell you you should probably get them done, though they're generally not too pushy if you opt out. However, repair costs are often higher than elsewhere, and they will have certain "required" repairs that they'll insist on before they'll pass your vehicle for inspection--things most other places would not. I took my car there for years and the average cost of inspection was probably something like $500; sometimes less, but usually more. The last straw for me was a $1000+ estimate for inspection; I said "no thanks" and took my car to another shop not far away. My car passed with flying colors--all I had to pay was the ~$40 for the cost of the inspection and the sticker. I definitely won't be going back. read more

On 8/16/19 my truck broke down while out of town. I had it towed to mikes Kars. It needed pads and rotors on the rear and pads on the front along with a caliper on the rear. The owner said it would cost $2,400 to fix it. I couldn't believe the cost and questioned the owner why so much and she said the parts alone cost $1,130 and I could call NAPA and ask them if I want. So I did and they quoted me $550 for all the parts. That's over 100% mark up. now I am all for the small business making money, I am a mechanic myself and know how it works. Parts are marked up 20% usually at all shops. the labor was $942 for 6 hours of work. that's $157/HOUR. I don't even know of a shop in the country that charges that much money to do repair work, not even a dealership. there was nothing I could do but have them fix it. I was on vacation with my wife and kids and I was stuck and they knew it and greatly took advantage of the situation. I could have replaced the transmission in my truck for the price I paid for brake pads. they seamed so friendly and nice I had no idea I was about to get screwed hard. I WOULD NEVER TAKE MY VEHICLE TO MIKES KARS! Please take some advise from another mechanic, if you have a choice DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I had no choice but to bend over and pay $2392.57 for brakes and rotors. I told the owner that she must have needed the money more than me so to spend it wisely because she may be out of business in the future if they charge everyone like that. They told me I needed a new exhaust manifold and EGR tube to pass Pennsylvania inspection, and they couldn't quote a price because they were sure to break bolts on my admittedly rusty 2003 truck. I declined and discovered that the problem was a missing flare nut that once connected the tube to the manifold. (Painfully obvious.) I fixed it myself in 30 minutes for $60 in parts. They laughed at me when I returned to complain that they were using the inspection law to charge a minimum $500 for unnecessary repairs. read more
