Mikes is located in a strip mall in the Ne and looks to be the local hang out for a large Asian clientele. The woman working there is extremely nice and she made me one of the best chicken burgers with fries I have even tasted. So there is a nice simple menu here, burgers, fries, nachos and nice ample selection of beverages and alcohol. This place is very clean with over 40 tables, it is extremely comfortable and there is tons of room around the tables to play. The place was packed at 4 in the afternoon yesterday, $12 dollars an hour gets you a larger table; there are also the coin operated options as well as pinball machines and foosball. Not very welcoming environment, kind of grungy. I had to chase down the guy working there for a beer because he was playing is own game of pool instead of serving people. poor selection of beverages. They don't play music and that was kind of bothersome made it feel kind of creepy and it was a Saturday night you think it would have been a little more lively here. read more

I'm biased in this review, because of the quality of the tables and lighting. Yes, everything else is wicked (food, tv's, atmosphere, people)....but for people who want to play pool competitively, it isn't so good. The lighting is horrible (at least buy covers for the tubes guys! sheets only help the spectators....NOT the guys who are playing AT the tables!). The tables aren't in the greatest condition. For table condition and quality, I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10. Great if you play with friends, but not so good if you want to practice. Best pool hall in Calgary but that is not saying much. Calgary once had some awesome pool halls but most have gone the way of the dinosaur and through simply existing Mikes has now become the only place to go to play. The tables in this place are not great, not gold crowns or god forbid diamonds, they are some old school table brand. The pockets are cut wrong, the felt is often not installed all that well. The place could use a top quality table mechanic to come in and do a complete overhaul, while they are at it they might as well buy some gold crowns or Diamonds and do it right. The place is not cheap to play in by the hour and they tend to do good business, the place gets customers, with good business already they might as well put money back into the place abit. The guys who run this place are great, by the time you come in here for the 3rd time they will know you and make you feel welcome, that type of customer service matters. The food service is good stuff but limited, it is not a full menu and alot of the stuff is fairly non-cooking intensive but what they have tastes good and the food is cheap. The beer is not cheap, $4.50 for a domestic in a can is steep for a pool hall. But they are the last true pool hall we have in this city of note and this was once a city known well for their pool scene and awesome pool halls. read more
