Joey V.

So for a Japanese/ Korean restaurant I thought this was very good. Not sure what to expect when I read the reviews. I had been here years and years ago. One of my favorites in the S Peninsula in Mt View had closed, so a friend and his GF took me here. The overall experience was great. Friendly staff and servers and it was clean. The Bento Box that I had was most excellent with a twist of this Korean Beef Dish that I picked. I most certainly will come back. Thank you.

Stellar from top to bottom. Very good quality seafood. Spicy tuna roll was huge. Teriyaki Alambo was perfectly cooked. Edamame's we're done well. Service is superb here. Huge bento box for lunch for only $22 including soup and salad. The ambiance is so relaxing. Reminds me of being in Japan wherefbe food is not so salty.

Food was pretty yummy, however the portions are just really small for the price. Service was great!

As always do enjoy going to Mikado especially for the lunch bento box special. Today was no exception , as always can get a seat right away with friendly service ( note this is a smaller establishment and not adjustable tables so for large crowds it is limited ). Today was teriyaki chicken , avocado roll and gyoza , yes not so traditional but good quick lunch. Environment is nice , little bit older inside but well kept up and overall good selection of sushi , noodle etc. if in Los Altos give it a try and see what you think

Roten lettuce, the fried calamari looked like a big portion, but inside the batter is a dry small peace of calamari, not fresh at all.

Unfortunately the food is not fresh I got a roten lettuce. The fried calamari looked like a big portion, but inside the batter is a dry small flavorless peace of calamari, not fresh at all. I asked it to go but I didn't get the sauces, utensils, napkins. Very disappointed

Average, nothing special. Service was nice and they were welcoming. But the food really was not good. I won't be back again.

There were several tables filled up already, and they just opened at 11:30am. My bf was craving tofu soup so he got the original tofu soup with beef and medium spice level. While I got the bulgogi pork lunch size, and that was flavorful and not really spicy. We enjoyed the banchan, and it was really interesting to have purple rice. It was pretty different. I definitely love fluffy white rice more, but it was good to try the purple rice. The place was modern with a touch of warmness and traditional Korean flare. Service was attentive and friendly. They have a parking lot with plenty of spots. We would definitely return again. :)

I picked this restaurant because of its location, its spacious parking lot, and that they're not too crowded on weekends. We got a corner table inside a big room. Not only were they not completely full, the spacing between tables were pretty good as well. Staff were super friendly. It's a perfect place for us to catch up with each other without feeling rushed nor guilty. All four of us ordered the organic tofu soup. I had the mushroom one (medium spicy). It came piping hot with a raw egg. It was the perfect spicy level for me. (One of us ordered hot, and said that it was quite a bit more spicy than she expected.) I loved the assorted mushrooms inside my tofu soup. My friends all enjoyed their selections as well, and we loved the texture of the purple rice. The amount of ingredients inside the tofu soup was pretty generous. We also got refills for our banchans. There're 5 different kinds of banchans. They're on the sweeter side and not as flavorful as I would like, though. Overall, it's a delicious and satisfying lunch, and we all had a good time.

Jang Su Jang is one of the Bay Area's few Korean restaurants that still practices classical,…read moretechnique-driven K-BBQ at a level that feels disciplined rather than theatrical. This is not "trendy K-BBQ." This is craft. Premium Beef Sets The two beef platters show exactly why this restaurant has earned its reputation. Cuts are uniform, balanced, and beautifully marbled - not over-trimmed, not sloppy. You can tell each cut was selected with intent. And then comes the part that separates Jang Su Jang from the rest: The Ajeumma Grill Masters The ajumma who handle the grill are true specialists. They adjust heat, angle, and timing with an instinct that can't be engineered - it's earned through years of repetition. Fatty cuts get brief exposure to maximize aroma. Leaner cuts are rested, turned, and finished with restraint. Everything lands at the table tender, glossy, and perfectly rendered. This is the kind of skill you don't fake. Signature "Wang Mandu" Dumplings These oversized dumplings - often associated with Pyongyang/North Korean culinary tradition - are beautifully pleated, delicate, and generously filled. The wrapper stays thin; the interior stays juicy. A standout item, and a rarity in the Bay Area. Cold Noodles (Naengmyeon) A textbook bowl: * Broth clean and chilled * Buckwheat noodles with bounce instead of mush * Two precise slices of beef on top -- tender, thin, and chosen specifically because they don't fight the noodles' texture A lot of restaurants get this wrong; Jang Su Jang gets it exactly right. Spicy Shredded Beef Noodle Soup Deep red broth, long strands of tender shredded beef, and vegetables cut for texture rather than decoration. A bowl built for cold days, and executed with discipline. Service & Atmosphere Service here is closer to Korean fine dining than casual K-BBQ: * Full uniforms * Structured training * Staff who monitor your grill without interrupting * Adjusting cuts based on who's at the table * Cutting, rotating, and finishing the meat so you don't have to guess You feel taken care of - not rushed, not ignored. And yes, you'll leave with a little grill aroma on your clothes. That's the mark of a proper K-BBQ house - an imprint of the experience. A Note on Hanwoo If you truly want to experience Hanwoo, the most direct path is simple: from SFO or SJC, a few hours in the air puts you in Seoul eating the real thing. But within the Bay Area, Jang Su Jang is the closest expression of classical Korean grilling done right. If any restaurant here were to introduce Hanwoo one day, this is the one that deserves to serve it. In a region full of modern, high-tech, all-you-can-eat K-BBQ concepts, Jang Su Jang stands alone as the Bay Area's classical Korean reference point - precise, disciplined, and anchored in real craft. Five stars- on execution alone. - Dr C Only writing for what truly earns the stars.

We came in as a party of seven and were seated in a corner where it felt like no one paid attention to us. We had to call the server multiple times just to request side dishes, which made the whole experience frustrating. It honestly felt like we were forgotten most of the time. A few things to note: 1. The attitude of the servers was not welcoming. 2. Side dishes are supposed to be refillable up to three times, but even getting a refill was difficult. I've never experienced service like this before. Definitely not coming back.

The…read moresetup is actually pretty cool because you get your own individual hot pot so you don't have to share broth, but there's still a shared grill in the middle for the BBQ. The all-you-can-eat is the move here. The meat quality is solid--the wagyu beef and spicy pork belly usually hit the spot on the grill. On the hot pot side, the pork bone broth is a safe bet, and the spicy broth actually has a decent kick to it. Also, they have those little fried buns with condensed milk that are dangerously good. They give ice cream at the end with a cone which is sweet dessert. The vibe is super lively and loud, definitely not a quiet dinner spot. They even have those robots rolling around bringing out plates, which is kind of funny to watch. Service is quick; you just order everything on your phone and it shows up fast. Just remember the 90 minute limit. It's clean, modern, and you'll definitely leave feeling like you need a nap. Great spot to hit with a group if you're looking to get a lot of food without breaking the bank.

But…read morethis is as my first time coming here and im wondering if I would come back - Staff is super friendly and attentive - Broths are very bland. I understand that it might be intentional so it can be customizable from the big variety of sauces at the sauce bar. But I would say its very lacking. No salt, no depth. Almost like flavored water. - Portions are okay. It's AYCE so it makes sense that their portions are smaller. but it is much smaller than places ive been to. Please be mindful when you decide which meat to be on the grill as majority of them is to be for hotpot. so it will dissolve on the grill the moment you realize it. - Meat quality is fine for AYCE. However there are some thats a bit questioning. The spicy beef is just the thinniest slices that are marinaded in the chili oil. But after cooking the texture and even flavor is very very off. I highly recommend getting the Finger Cubes BBQ (i think), nice blend of fat and meat and def the most flavorful. - ORDERING SYSTEM is a nightmare. Since the portions are so small, you would have to order multiple rounds and there is a time block apparently so you dont over order. But the system is so slow and not intuitive at all. At first i thought they are just opened and would give it some time to improve. But now i dont see myself coming back at all.
