I went to the restaurant with my friend (both of us equally excited about trying out authentic Korean food for the first time) after several weeks of planning. The restaurant is located right by the theatre "Det Ny Teater" on Vesterbrogade 42. It's easy to locate and has a bus stop less than a minute's walk away. We were welcomed and at the desk and brought to a table in a cosy corner by the bathroom. There is a "girl" peeking through the window so don't be surprised! The menu was given out and we both ordered the "Happy Vegan" dinner course with the organic elderflower juice (I think they ended up serving us the lemonade. The receipt also indicated that. However, we told them about the mistake and paid for the juice). The drinks and side dishes came first. The drinks tasted good and were mild. The side dishes consisted of five small bowls: cooked zucchini, pickled zucchini, spicy boiled potatoes, kimchi, and an omelette. None of the side dishes tasted particularly hot. We were then served our "Seaweed, 5 seed & avocado". The set was a plate had about 5-6 seaweed on it with wasabi paste and a mix of 5 seeds (in a semi-paste form). Next to that was thinly sliced cucumber, peppers (red, yellow, green), pickled carrots??, and avocado. The dish was also served with soy sauce. The waiter explained how to eat the dish and we had fun mixing the fillings. The side dishes and sliced veggies complemented each other well. Afterwards, we were served a small Mung Bean Pancake. The pancake was about 10cm/4inch in diameter. Slightly disappointed about that. It tasted good, though, and had a thin slice of chilli? and greens on it. It was served with its own dipping sauce. I couldn't recognise it. We took our time with the appetisers and eventually were served the main course. The main course was a hot stone Bibimbap. It was served with a red paste. The bibimbap had a base of rice and was topped with the same veggies as the appetiser plus an egg yolk and cooked onions. The star of the show was very comforting. I decided not to mix in the entire paste in as it was slightly too hot for me. It was quite interesting to cook and eat your food at the same time. Be careful of the bowl, though, as it's quite hot in the beginning. Finally, we were given the choice between Lotus tea and coffee. We both chose the tea. The dessert of the day was ice cream. They had either vegan or normal ice cream and we chose the latter. The tea tasted literally like the essence of baked potatoes (a very good potato). It was weird but pretty good. The waitress offered to refill the pitcher with hot water if needed. The waitress described the process of making the ice cream: The chef discovered that beating the rice in water for two hours then extracting that water and mixing it with cream would make a good ice cream. She wasn't wrong. The dessert was amazing and the crushed salted sesame seeds on top balanced the dish well. The restaurant has a very cosy and warm interior. There are BBQ tables and normal tables spread out. The bathroom is amusing yet relaxing. The female bathroom has two "rooms". There is one with a tall ceiling and one with a shorter one. The flooring is checkered and there are towels to dry off your hands with. And incense! And a small candle! (I like it when people have an attention to details, ok?) The bad: 1. We were only served one set of 5 side dishes although the menu stated 5 side dishes per order. In their defence, we did not order or ask for the second set. 2. The Mung Bean pancake was too small. 3. The bibimbap could have benefited greatly with a vegan/vegetarian protein besides the yolk. 4. More ice cream! --- The good: 1. The waiter and waitresses were all super kind. They all explained the dishes and the methods to eat them. 2. The food tasted very good and REAL. I had almost forgotten the taste of non-frozen & un-canned produce here in Copenhagen. 3. The three-course meal was set up and planned very well. There was a great balance between each dish and a good transaction. 4. Being surrounded by an all Korean staff (minus one) and some Korean customers was such a great experience. All in all my friend and I had a great first experience at Korean cuisine and will definitely come back for more.

    What a fool I am! In my Studieskolen days, I passed by this place many times but figured it was…read morelike most Japanese-Korean mix establishments: BAD! However I was pleasantly surprised and now I know where to get my Korean fix in Copenhagen when I'm feeling homesick. Since it was a very cold day, I wanted something hot and comforting. The Samgyetang menu (310 dkk) appealed to me especially since it comes with small sides (banchan). Normally this soup is eaten in the summer, but I think it also goes over well on these winter evenings. Our server brought out a whole cornish hen sizzling in the stone pot on a wooden trivet with salt and pepper on the side. Spot-on presentation! However there was no ginger or glutinous rice inside the chicken, much less jujube or ginseng. Although chicken is the star of this dish, the rice and herbs play a huge role. This was very disappointing, even though the meat was cooked perfectly and falling off the bone. Before we were served the main (Korean) dishes, we received a little Japanese appetizers. One was a spinach salad (ohitashi) and a shrimp salad with bean thread (ebi sunomono). These were very nice and refreshing but of course I would have preferred a Korean starter. Soon after came gyoza/mandu, which was good. Right before the mains came out we got the banchan, and so prettily arranged! There was seafood pancake (haemul pajeon), carrot kinpira, kimchi, potato pancake (gamjajeon), and seaweed salad. The kinpira was a bit out of place, I think beansprouts would have fit in better. Though they were a little oily, the pancakes were good. Now the kimchi was excellent! I can say this with confidence since I am Korean, I've been brought up eating kimchi, and I do make my own. You can even buy it by the kilo here. Good to know. At the end of the meal we got a scoop of sickly-sweet strawberry ice cream and a pretty but not very tasty strawberry for dessert. I would have preferred green tea ice cream or even some seasonal fruit, the latter being more common in Korean cuisine. Since it is winter I would have been ok with no dessert and just a cup of ginseng tea instead. Although the missing ingredients in the samgyetang made me feel cheated, the banchan was mostly good and so was the service. I look forward to trying more authentic Korean dishes here.

Cute and casual ambiance with a mini photo booth where you can stick your photo onto their wall. Fun atmosphere with the latest kpop hits blasting (hello New Jeans, Le Sserafim, & ILLIT)! Not much seating, just a bench so more of a grab and go spot. Woman helping us was kind and patient as we decided what we wanted, could watch her make our food. Good service. Kopan seems to have given the greatest push this year with their food cart serving sweet and savoury pancakes. Their old name, seed hoddeok, refers to deep-fried dough which is flattened and opened to make a pocket, then stuffed with seeds and honey/brown sugar. I tried a sample of it and the dough is tender and slightly chewy inside with a nice crispy crust. I ordered rice cakes mixed with fish cakes (tteokbokki) for 45kr and the rice cakes were especially good with a slight crisp on the outside. They were only a little spicy to me, but tasted great. It is a small but very filling dish as the rice cakes are very compact. I also got a marinated grilled beef (bulgogi) pancake for 50kr. It was very morseish with onions and potato starch noodles (japchae) and the freshly fried dough was even better than the sample of the seed pancake. This is a great place to stop by when you need a substantial snack or just want to try some authentic Korean street food.

I went with the pork bun (60 dkk) and chatted with the friendly guy in the truck while waiting. Apparently kimchi is the only thing they don't make themselves due to storage issues, but he assured me that it is made by a competent Korean lady. That seems reasonable, so I can let that go. However, when I got the bao it came with a big leaf of romaine between the filling and the bun. While I understand that it is to keep the bun from getting soggy, it seemed out of place and watered down the taste a bit too much without lending much texture. Even cabbage would have been a better bet. The pork was tender but a little too sweet so I was left wishing the kimchi was a bit stronger. All in all, not a bad bao (can any of them be so bad?) but this isn't about to become my go-to. I must agree with Eva K; I enjoy trying many different things so I prefer smaller buns. I do, however, prefer my bao as bite size so I could eat more than just one, I guess it's just spill of my good tastebuds :P The pork soya one is good, although I can't vouch for the chicken one (since I don't eat poultry). I still prefer Maobao's bao than this one though, simply because Maobao is smaller (hence the chance to try various flavour for same price) and that they're better in combining the flavour (those peanut crumbles!). That said, I'm pretty happy that there's bao truck in Copenhagen anyway :P
