I'm SHOCKED at the care my mom is receiving here. All the staff know her, are familiar w/ her…read morequirks, & go way out of their way to appease her. (My mother has a favorite farmers market donut, cherry topped. A staff member started picking them up on way into work. On days when the market isn't possible, she keeps a jar of cherries in the fridge so she can dress up a regular donut.) I had such horrible experiences w/ a memory care unit at a facility in Douglassville. Constant staff changes, staff that seemed to have zero medical knowledge, could barely speak English or be understood (a nightmare for elderly w/ hearing loss & a failing brain), & dreaded my visits. Instead of learning quirks or adding more staff, they heavily medicated to the point of weekly trips to the emergency room from falls. All of Spruce seems to be long standing members of the industry, many of which have worked at Spruce for years. From Theresa in the finance office to Arlene on night shift (both a pleasure to deal w/). 4 stars because facility could use some renovating- it is very dingy & dated. But come to realize looks are deceiving. Other places shiny & new, but understaffed, undertrained, & uncaring. Spruce gets right what matters. I PURPOSELY show up at all hours. My mother is always groomed, safe, and smiling. Staff always happy to engage.

The nurses were so nice and very friendly. I also thought the same of the doctors there too. So when my husband said he was going there I told him that it's great there. My husband is there for a totally different illness. We almost lost him due to a C.O.P.D. Exasperation. He was in ICU for 2 weeks and thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Reading Hospital he is here with us. So I know they will do what is good for him and send him home to us good as new.

It wasn't recognized by the ambulance crew or the ER. Only the CT scan revealed the extent of my atypical stroke. The doctors pumped 3% saline directly to the site of the infarction for 10 days. Not .3%... 3%. The marvelous Rehab therapists are the best; the acute care doctor that treated me is pretty great too. Therapists have a continuous stream of pitiful stroke patients... but manage to make every patient feel like they are the first stroke patient that they have ever treated. Thousands of people have been in Rehab before me, many with more knowledge about the methods and value of therapy than I will ever have... but the therapists never let on. God bless them. Without their persistent encouragement I wouldn't be typing this, walking to the kitchen for a drink of water and sitting in the bath tub like a Christian to take a bath. Without the antiedema therapy I'd have a hole in the back of my head or I'd be gone.
