They cost a lot more than other vets, including Pets At Home, however we decided to give them a try as to support a local business. We bought a new expensive kitten which I requested be checked of gender and health over the phone. We filled in the details of the cat on a form INCLUDING NAME(girls name) and SEX and informed them numerous times we were told it was female. So the sex check was requested on both the phone and in the surgery. The cat was brought to them literally one day after we traveled 4hrs traveling to the other side of the country to pick it up.
3 months later, we decided to take the kitten to another vet and immediately the vet informed us that our girl was actually a BOY. The breeder offered us a refund and to take the cat back but, obviously now the cat has become part of the family and we could never give him away.
Midland refuse to take any responsibility or even compensate us in any way. A courtesy partial refund for the initial check-up would have been an appreciated sentiment. Instead all we got was, "you can speak to our legal team".
Of course won't bother to go through all of that hassle. We are upset however, that they hold their hands up and cushion any of the damage.
I specifically requested the cat be sexed and health checked but because I didn't actually request during the actually consultation (as stated from their notes), they bare no responsibility.
The vet spent a lot of time telling us which pricey products to buy, which they conveniently sold and we did go ahead and buy a bunch of them.
Not that we were unhappy at the time, but I would mention that, despite being early, we had to wait an extra 30 minutes to be seen also.
We would have been happy with a small reimbursement for the failed initial consultation, anything, as we are not fussy or greedy people, but were disappointed with the way we were treated. It's a shame but, we won't be bringing our 2 (soon to be 3) cats to Midland anymore and a couple of my friends and family who our new little BOY cat has inspired to pet adopt, will also be avoiding Midland...
