A performance here can usually be relied upon to be a great, if not fantastic, experience which you will remember. I have seen operas and even hiplet (hip hop ballet) performances at the Ruby Diamond, which speaks to the diversity and quality of the acts they book for the venue. The concert hall is simply beautiful and perfect for a luxurious evening at the opera. All staff are courteous and promptly direct you to your seat or assist you with the ticket process. Funnily enough days later I find out they're going to be doing this on Broadway with Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. Go figure! Anyway, looks like we caught the Tallahassee version of it the day before its closing night. Given the spontaneity of it all, we arrived and were told to go to will call. Went to will call and were told to go back to the teller. Whatever. We got our tickets and sat down. Theatre is quaint, even cozy. Pretty intimate and there really isn't a bad seat in the house. I believe there's a bar outside as the actual pamphlet for the play contained an alcohol menu, but seeing as we didn't partake, I wouldn't be able to give you all the details. Felt the play dragged a bit honestly. Nevertheless it was enjoyable, and well, at least the seats were comfortable. Not to mention that I went with one of my favorite people.

But every Thursday there are a bunch of people waiting to perform or you can just sit back for the great entertainment. There's always a nice show and some nights they open up a sign up list for others to perform. Small parking lot in the back but plenty of street parking all around the club. The building is beautiful and colorful and everything is just so positive. A nice change from the normal bar nights in Tallahassee. But that's just Thursday! The store is also a book store (duh) and also a school.

It's an old cotton warehouse turned into a theatre, and has a very unique stage layout. The audience is in a horse shoe shape around the stage floor, and there are various stage levels. The theatre is somewhat small and the actors often come up in the aisles so you feel like you are in the story. Not to mention, all of the performers are so talented! It's hard to believe that there is so much talent in this small town. They do a "Swamp Gravy" show every year, which they are most known for, in addition to their normal season. I read online that "Swamp Gravy" is Georgia's official folk-life play. These shows are so special because they feature a large cast size and a local story! They have a very talented playwright / composer who produce a show that they've written! The production quality is insane and it's hard to believe that they write and produce their own shows! It's also super cool to see stories local to Colquitt brought to life on stage. I have seen 3 shows here now: *April 2021 - "Swamp Gravy" production of "A Stone's Throw." *December 2021 - "A Southern Christmas Carol" (another show that they wrote that is now done by other theatres across the southeast!) *March 2022 - "Swamp Gravy" production of "Nuthin' But A Will" I have sat in Sections A, C, and F, and have come to the conclusion that there are no bad seats in the house. I enjoyed section C the most but there is something unique about each, since the show is happening all around the theatre. People drive from all over to see these shows and I can see why. It's definitely worth the 3.5-4 hour trip from Marietta. I love visiting this theatre so much and it's truly a experience that you can't find anywhere else, and I encourage everyone to give this place a try!

The VIP tickets allowed me to book a table and seats of my choice and a dinner accompanied the ticket (sadly, I forgot the dinner was included and ate on the way there). The five artists that sang lead were all different, but super talented. The backup singers wore gorgeous dresses and sang lovely as well. I would certainly add events and this venue into your rotation of things to do in Tallahassee that are enjoyable, affordable, and low key enough to where you do not have to worry about a crazy loud drunken party scene.
