Here is a copy of a letter I sent to Southbound Locksmiths after Peter got me out of real trouble…read morewhen I jammed my keys in the rear door and locked them in my Land Rover at Carrickalinga. "Hi Peter, as I said on the day, I would like to offer you a few written words in appreciation for a service that ticked all the boxes for me. It's not every day I pay out and feel I really was treated in a genuinely professional, respectful, confident and generous manner. My situation was complex with a sophisticated locking mechanism engaged under unusual circumstances, requiring also your travelling a good half hour each way to attend. Before asking your advice I'd obtained RAA Roadside assistance and phoned several locksmiths either unavailable or uncertain about their competence in this situation. Several suggested breaking a window. Your readiness to assist in a holiday weekend, taking calls at night, patiently and helpfully discussing my situation and taking genuine interest, delivering a prompt response, precise technical expertise, an extremely professional attitude, impeccable presentation and manners motivates me to drop you a line in appreciation, which I would be more than happy for you to refer to in promoting your service. thankyou once again."

I'm not sure if any other newsagents in the area stock them, but it was this newsagent's perfect positioning that won me over.

John has been an institution of Stirling and much of the Hills for decades now, and for good reason. He's always friendly, happy to chat or (more importantly) happy to just quietly cut hair. The chair is comfortable, and is most likely older than the building containing it. There are no appointments, just come in, sit down and he'll be right with you. The location is also a bonus, being right next to Ruby's you can always stop in for a coffee while you wait.
