LOVED our maternity photo shoot! Michelle is very professional, personal & sweet! She responded soon after I first contacted her. Since I was in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy, I was happy to see she made the whole photo shoot process so smooth. She had an awesome makeup & hair artist available that you could use & we had a consultation to go over the location, what I expected, & I got to try on various outfits to wear. Long overdue review of Michelle Popp Photography! My husband and I decided to have a small beach wedding in North County San Diego and we were having a hard time finding a photographer that would be flexible to our needs and pricing to match. Michelle was recommended to us and before even reaching out, her work spoke for itself. After reaching out, I remember thinking how personable Michelle was!!! She was super receptive to what we were looking for and just exciting to talk wedding shop with. I could tell just how passionate Michelle was about her work from that call because it didn't feel like we were a 'client' of hers but instead that she genuinely cared to capture who my husband and I are as a couple! Michelle was quick with an estimate and tentative timeline for the day. Shortly after that, we received the cutest congratulations package in the mail for our engagement. I won't say too much because these little surprise touches were scattered throughout the time leading up to our wedding and after. The thoughtful gifts that Michelle spent time to send out meant SO much and really contributed to our celebrations as an engaged and newlywed couple. Anyway back to the day of, Michelle and her helper (can't remember her name but she was great too!) showed up on time, as planned, were so helpful throughout the day and really just blended right in. Her direction and eye really helped us get the best background of the beach, colors of our reception room, and so many wonderful family shots. She got our pictures to us quickly online and also sent us an option for them to be printed out in a professional portrait setting. As an OBGYN physician, I have seen many maternity and newborn photos from patients and friends/family- the bad (cheesy or forced poses), the good (ehh), and then there are those photos which are breathtaking- Michelle's work is truly breathtaking. Her style is "organic" described as soft neutral colors combined with nature and natural light to allow the focus to to be on the emotions/relationship between the subjects in the pictures. At first I didn't know what to expect as this is such a different style than what I did for my first maternity/newborn photos in which I wore a bright maternity dress and had bold colors. However i trusted in her artwork and vision and the end result was better than I could have imagined. I look at the emotions she captured in the photos and I don't know how, but she captured the joy and love and anticipation of such beautiful moments in my life, my pregnancy and my growing family. The photos are simply beautiful perfection. As a picture is worth a thousand words, you simply need to peruse her portfolio to know what I mean. Logistically, you get what you pay for and her services are worth every penny to have timeless keepsakes from a time in your life that you can never repeat. As far as newborn photos, I can attest how worth it is to have a photographer include "in-home newborn session" rather than going to a studio. For my first baby, I had to go to my photographer's studio for the several hour photo session which is quite exhausting as a new parent. I knew that would be very difficult the second time around with a toddler to entertain. With Michelle, she comes to your home with her elaborate set up and puts a lot of effort and love into getting fantastic photos of you in your comfort zone- your home to decrease your stress and allow your love and excitement to show through rather than appearing frazzled and sleep deprived from trying to round up the family to get to a studio only to be stuck there for a few hours. In home newborn photo session is truly the way to go and worth the expense. Michelle offers a boutique service in that she provides client styling- a beautiful selection of clothes for mom, newborn, and young toddlers which definitely helps take the stress out of the process of figuring out what to wear. This also helps you achieve the style/look of her photos which I would describe as "romantic". Last but not least, Michelle is very sweet and humble and it is evident this is her passion and not just a job. She is organized, responds timely to your concerns, patient which moody toddlers, and was able to put even my husband at ease (who hates taking photos and gets nervous around photographers). To say we are absolutely thrilled with the pictures Michelle took would be an understatement. We LOVE them! Definitely exceeded our expectations...and, as my husband and I always say regarding photo shoots, "if we get just one or two good photos, we are happy." After getting our maternity and newborn photos back from Michelle, I was saddened ... that we didn't hire her for our wedding as well. The photos were wonderful. The maternity shoot went very well and she made my wife so much more comfortable than she had been with our engagement and wedding photographer. The newborn photo session went off without a hitch. I was never someone that had maternity and newborn photos taken so capturing my son at a year old was super important to me. I have never been someone really comfortable in front of the camera because I am my worst critic. I had the pleasure of having Michelle take my maternity photos last April. She is a joy to work with! We planned the shoot down at Sunset Cliffs. When the tide starting coming in and we weren't able to get the beach shots we wanted, we moved down to Ocean Beach. Michelle was determined and eager to get a beautiful sunset shot, which she did!
