Dropped my car off for tires, gave them my number to call me with pricing and questions. Received a call at closing time my car was done and the total was 1700$! They changed my tires and rotors. I wanted only tires. Told me I had to pay to get my car back and held my keys hostage, drove to my house to make me sign the receipt accepting payment. Beyond disappointed with the management and family who owns this should be ashamed for there scam. read more

I have 2004 Toyota. Everyone said that a Toyota is the best made car. Since I've had it only a few months the battery died and then the alternator. If that's the best car, I'd hate to see the worst. I was on Route 28 in North Reading when the alternator died completely. The tow service brought the car to Michael's Motors in Lawrence, MA. A family-run business. They did fix the problem. However, Michael's Motors would not accept any payment terms. The bill had to be paid in full before they would release My Car to Me. They do speak English well. In Lawrence, I wasn't sure if anyone really did. Overall, I would recommend this shop. read more

I have been going here for almost 2 years for oil changes and inspection stickers. They are always friendly & quick! I recently needed some more work done on my car and they were SO helpful. I had never dealt with filing a claim with insurance and getting a rental car and they were so patient with me and walked me through everything! Not to mention the work they did on my car is perfect. They also have a friendly dog, Ollie who greets you at the door :) I'm so glad I found them & can trust them with my car. Always love supporting a family business! read more

My husband and I considered purchasing a used car from Michael's Motor Sales. We know some of the owner's family and I was excited to be supporting a young family I knew, and a local business. Sean, the owner/salesperson was very responsive and even brought the vehicle to our home to test drive when we said we wouldn't be able to make it to the dealership until the weekend. My husband test drove the vehicle and we liked it. I made arrangements to have our regular mechanic look at the vehicle the next day, with the thought that if everything checked out, we'd make an offer on it. Sean met me at my mechanic with the vehicle in question. He told me that the mechanic at Michael's Motor sales had looked it over and said the only thing wrong with it was that it needed new rear brakes, which they would take care of. My mechanics looked it over and noted that the front and rear bumpers had been replaced. They acknowledged that this was not necessarily a safety concern; they were just noting that it had been done. To back up this statement, they showed me how the bolts did not completely match up, and the color of the rear bumper did not quite match the rest of the car. Upon putting the vehicle up on the lift and examining it further, they noted a couple things: 1. That the condenser had some of the tines rotted out. They pointed out that the vehicle might need a new condenser. Sean debated that point with my mechanic at a volume that was a lot louder than necessary for the conversation. 2. That the rear tires were also worn. One of my mechanics felt that it might pass inspection, but just barely. The other mechanic said "these will never pass inspection." Sean said they would put on four new tires. While Sean stepped out, my mechanic showed me on cars.com that the asking price was almost $2,000 more than other similar vehicles on the market. I told them that Sean had said to me in conversation that he would talk to his father and see how much they could bring the price down. I went outside to talk to Sean and asked him what the outcome of that discussion had been. Rather than answering my question, Sean started talking about how he was angry that my mechanics did not perform the thorough inspection, how they didn't thoroughly inspect the vehicle (not sure how this would have helped Sean's case; since had they done so, they might have found even more wrong with it than they already did, but I digress......). After listening to this for a couple minutes, I suggested that we go in and ask; maybe there was a reason they did not thoroughly inspect. Rather than respectfully discuss this with my mechanic, Sean started to complain to the business owner about how the mechanic didn't run the inspection thoroughly. I watched the two of them argue about it, and my mechanic offered to check it now. Sean said that he didn't want him to; he had already wasted enough time. My mechanic looked at us, confused. He asked Sean "what do you want me to do?". Sean couldn't give him a straight answer, but he mention that his shop had been in business for 70 years, and he did threaten to report my mechanic to AAA. Not that it was his place to do so. He also mentioned that he had a business to run and he was losing out on sales over there this afternoon. At that point, I softly said "Sean, if you are losing out on sales, you should go back to your shop and make those sales, because you aren't getting this one. I appreciate your time and effort in coming out here, but I don't like the way you are speaking to Bill and I don't like the way you are speaking to me. " Sean asked me a couple times if I was serious, and I told him I was. He stared me down, and I thanked him again. He left. A few minutes later, I called up Michael's Motor Sales and asked to speak with Michael (Sean's father who also works at and presumably owns the business). I introduced myself to Michael and stated who I was. Michael told me he had just gotten off the phone with Sean and he started angrily addressing me, too. He did not ask to hear my side of the story. He reiterated what his son had said, that he had been in business for 70 years, that he was going to report my mechanic to AAA, etc. I told him that I was calling to give him feedback on why he lost out on the sale and that I thought it might be useful to him in case they wanted to change anything they were doing. He told me "I'm not gonna do anything differently." At that point, I hung up the phone as I didn't see any point in wasting more time. I'm really disappointed with my experience there: both the unprofessional attitude of the salesperson/junior owner, and also the fact that the senior owner did not attempt to hear the potential customer's side of the story. I know that the owner has a nice family, and can only assume he may have been having a very bad day to have acted that way. Regardless, the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I would never consider supporting this business. read more

It's really unfortunate for me to have stepped foot into this establishment. I can't talk for what I did as a customer because this is Yelp, but as a business, they were very unprofessional. Because they didn't make a big payday with my vehicle for so called "safety issues" they were extremely salty about it. First, I made a mistake in putting money down for new tires, so I couldn't cancel. And when I called in to see how much everything would cost he gave me a higher number than what he told someone else. Second, he charged me a full hour of labor for 20-30 mins of work, instead of the minimum. Third, he invaded my privacy and took pictures of my car without asking, so he can "report" it to whoever cares lol. Fourth, he was cussing in front of us and slamming the door making customers very uncomfortable. Fifth, he over inflated our tires at 4-5 psi higher than recommended, which is DANGEROUS. He was very nice to us when he knew he was going to make a fat paycheck but when we declined other work, things turned very sour. You shouldn't feel anxiety when going into a business but this is the place where I got extremely bad vibes from. Better Business Bureau has a similar customer who had a bad experience and it sounds exactly like this review. One thing I can thank Michael's Motors for is that I learned to research better in businesses and don't be scared or pressured into making decisions on the spot. One star for the cute dog. read more

They claim that they are honest but they are really not. My girlfriend called in and got a different quote then what was discussed. With no other choice, I had to get work done right then and there. The job took no more than 20-25 minutes and I was charged for a full hour instead of the minimum. Also, when they changed my tires they put incorrect tire pressure. They over inflated my tires from 33 to 39. They are so adamant about safety yet they over inflate my tires well beyond the safe limit of the tire. All in all, unprofessional, dishonest and would highly recommend you find a different auto shop for work. read more

We were looking for a solid, dependable car for our daughter and found it at Michael's Motors. But, more than finding the perfect car at the perfect price, the service was beyond compare. We didn't have to ask for them to fix the little things. The mechanic had already gone over it and fixed whatever needed attention. Sean even went through the hassle of getting the new plates and insurance stamp! The ink was not dry on our daughter's new license when she picked up her new car. She loves it. And we love Michael's Motors. We would highly recommend this dealership. read more

I have a well maintained and good running car so went here for a sticker. I found the mechanic to be extremely methodical in checking every possible item, giving me the feeling I was about to get stuck with a huge repair bill before being issued a sticker. I was right. He slapped on a rejection sticker and announced I needed about $500 in repairs before he would pass me; all problems I could not see but had to take his word on. He offered to do the work right then and there but I took it elsewhere and had the work done for about $350. read more
