I ended up paying for an unwanted item (that I had returned to them in pristine condition), despite being assured that I would not have to pay for it. At the end of my doctor visit, the nurse offered me a cheap looking elbow pad (basically a sock with a harder inclusion), which I didn't think of as necessary based on my conversation with the doctor. She did not mention any additional charge associated with the pad, and I considered it to be a complimentary item (the same way a dentist's office would offer small samples of floss or toothpaste). I paid the fees associated with my visit at the front desk, and again there was no mention of the pad cost. However a few weeks later I received by mail an invoice of $15 for the elbow pad (my insurance having been charged $25 as well). That was an expensive sock, at $40 apiece. Since I had not used the elbow pad, and found the charge unwarranted, I called the phone number mentioned on the invoice to dispute the charge. The lady I spoke to was polite and professional. She apologized for the misunderstanding and assured me that I would not have to pay the invoice if I returned the elbow pad to the (Sugar Land) clinic. She specified that I would have to talk to Sara at the front desk. And so I did. While obviously not happy to hear about the reason for my visit, Sara took back the sock, made a note on a piece of paper, and told me that I was all set. As I was leaving, it crossed my mind that I should have asked for a receipt, because I was not comfortable about her body language during our conversation. But I didn't do it, for fear of not offending her feelings. Well, another couple of weeks later I received another invoice, for the $15 I was still owing for the cheap sock. Sara may be doing what she thinks is best for her employer, but this is in my opinion not a respectful way to conduct a business. I paid the $15 invoice, since it is already not worthwhile dealing with it--besides I do not have a sock to return anymore.

Their surgery schedulers and insurance billers are all there at the building, so if you have a problem, you can speak directly to them. Overall, I've been very pleased with the whole place.

This location is tucked away in a complex of medical entities, beware of the meandering in your travel route. The office is clean, no paperwork can be filled out online, so arrive early. Not impressed that a TV on the wall is stuck on Fox News. No political statement is needed by the medical profession, IMO. My wait was under 30 minutes. After films were done, the doctor explained the surgery that was needed, complications that could arise, he answered all my questions in a professional manner. He performs surgery at hospitals in DT, Pearland and Baytown.

However, when I arrived for my third visit, I was told I needed to pay for it. Wait, what? The doctor said I could go ahead and proceed, and that they would check things out with me later. Then, for my fourth visit, I was informed that my insurance didn't cover the third visit, so I didn't receive treatment and canceled the appointment on the spot. Here's the issue: when I arrived in extreme pain, I electronically signed a small print agreement that stated something entirely different from what I had been told. I didn't pay much attention to the fine print--my mistake, I admit--because I trusted the doctor's word. I was assured that the third and fourth visits would be included, but that wasn't the case. Not only did they charge me for the third visit, which I was originally told would be covered, but they also charged me for the partial fourth visit, which I canceled on the spot after being informed of the insurance issue. I was led to believe that the follow-up appointments were included in the first two.

I have been going to Dr. Wood for 12 years. He's an excellent back doctor and surgeon and I highly…read morerecommend him. I have horrible disks (thanks, Dad!) and have had severe back problems since I was 22. I had a herniated disk and lumbar laminectomy by another doctor at age 22 and was happy with the outcome, but knew this wasn't the end of my problems. That doctor retired and I had problems once again with the same herniated disk at age 28. Enter Dr. Wood. I had another surgery at 28 and then a spinal fusion at 33, both by Dr. Wood. Both surgeries were very successful. You may wonder why I would need repeat surgeries and if you saw my spine, you'd understand. Both surgeries were done very well. Both times, Dr. Wood had wonderful bedside manner and was very receptive to me. Before the most recent surgery, I was scheduled for surgery but it was Christmas and the surgery was delayed because of the holiday. Something moved in my spine on Christmas Eve and I was a 100+ on the pain scale. I couldn't move. Dr. Wood stopped what he was doing on Christmas Eve and got me some serious pain killers. These were the kind that you had to have the physical prescription for and could not be called in. So, my husband had to meet him on Christmas eve to get the paper prescription to get it filled. He cares. I have seen him various times over the years because my L4-L5 disk doesn't look great (my fusion was L5-S1). He always takes his time and moves through the most conservative steps first. He always takes time to ask questions and doesn't rush me. If you are looking for a highly skilled spine orthopedist, then Dr. Wood is the one.
