Membership allows you to (better) seating in the lower section, closer to the speaker. Otherwise, it's first come first served seating. Lectures run about 1 and a half hours. My most recent visit was a first. A first, meaning a lecture as well as a piano recital. It was given by Jane Coop http://www.janecoop.com/biography/ The topic was Johannes Brahms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Brahms Discussions were on his life, compositions, techniques of composition including variation, phrasing and a third which I can't recall at the moment. His techniques were explained and demonstrated by Jane. What I didn't know and learned: He was a fan of Johannes Strauss Jr, and composed waltzes. At the end of the lecture, a performance. There are some really fine people there. They are very accepting and knowledgeable in their fields. There are no complaints, only praise. Most of my issues come from dealing with the administration staffs, particularly the people in charge of student registration. Most of them seem either very unhappy and just plain dismissive. My dad was rejected domestic tuition despite his PR status still being valid and is renewing. The person in charge didn't even let him explain and immediately just decided to disallow him to register in some courses. He had to contact another person who is a senior supervisor to get it sorted out. Immigrants have to through this sort of bureaucracy everyday and to see it happen in an institution of learning is disheartening. Regardless, it won't affect my opinion of VCC. I still think it is a great place for post-secondary education. I just hope that the staff will be more caring and mindful in the future.

It's much bigger than it looks from the outside. The classroom/kitchen area was well laid-out, and each area could probably accommodate around 24 attendees at a time. We had a 2 hour class, and the first hour was dedicated to learning understanding what was being made, learning techniques, and a live demonstration on how to make it. The last hour was reserved for attendees to prepare their dishes and eat it. The instructor and helpers were all very friendly. I found some of the pre-made ingredients not optimal - the rice seemed overcooked and a bit mushy, and questioned the use sweet potato for the maki rolls, and use of okonomiyaki to drizzle on sushi. But some ingredients were perfectly good - specifically the fish. This meal included a plum wine/sake cocktail. Overall, I quite enjoyed the class. The 2 hours goes by really quick, but it was informative and fun. At $89, it was very affordable. I'd definitely consider taking another class.

I arrived 15 min prior of the class and the seat was first come and first served. I recommend sitting left side facing the instructor because the projector screen is quite small, like right side students would be hard to see it. The class was very informative, and we learned real incidents in BC too. The test was very tricky one if English was your second language but the instructor will help you.

I later went back to John Oliver in my adult years to get some further education and get some skills in my adult years that I was lacking in the work force. Once again the instructors/teachers were good. As for the school itself...I didn't really socialize since it wasn't part of the school year, therefore, didn't go through all the Degrassi pains of school, however, in the hallow hallways you can still sense the ghosts of adolescent fear still lingering. The bathrooms look like a prison. The bathrooms on Orange is the New Black looks better.

I would…read morehave thought that after four years at university someone would know the difference between singular and plural. However, this employee continues to make mistakes that cost us money. For example, instead of telling a client we were available for one-hour sessions, he told a client we were available for an hour session. He makes many other grammatical errors. The employee told me that professors at U Vic had too many papers to grade, so the professors don't correct grammar as long as they understand the intended meaning. As an employer, I expect people to graduate with halfway decent English.
