I had a lot of anxiety about gum graft surgery. It sounded scary and painful. In actuality, it was neither! Dr. Setter allayed my fears and explained the process and his approach. He and his team are very friendly, helpful, and expert in this field. The surgery went smoothly and quickly, and I recovered right on schedule. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. And if I need another graft in the future, I will definitely visit Dr. Setter. read more

Excellent team, response, explanations, and everything else you would want from a health care experience. If all healthcare experiences were as great as Setter's office we wouldn't have a healthcare crisis! read more

As a new patient to Setter Periodontics, I could not be more pleased. Dr. Setter was professional, knowledgeable, and patient in explaining to me how things would go and what options I had. Tia was outstanding at cleaning my teeth. I was impressed that this office uses the most state-of-the-art-technology. Lastly, the front desk was efficient and made me feel at ease. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. 10 would be my preference! Wyatt read more

I'm not sure how else to put this than that I left from a gum graft procedure feeling inspired and incredibly grateful for the work of Dr. Setter and the staff at his office. He is an artist in his work and always speaks with passion and relatability when it comes to oral surgery. Most importantly, I felt that my comfort throughout the procedure, as well as a job expertly done, were the doctor's top priorities. During the entire graft, which was performed along the bottom row of my front teeth (6-8 teeth), Dr. Setter was artistically patient and gentle. Even with the numbing injections he went very slowly which made them nearly painless. I could tell he was immensely in tune with my the meticulous nature of the procedure he was performing: his movements were intentional and made with delicate finesse and care. The way he spoke with his assistant (wish I'd caught her name), as well as other staff members, when sharing instructions in the craft or requesting additional supplies was humble, respectful and patient. The energy was so positive! I've visited Dr. Setter's office 3 times in the past year or so. I've had a boatload of oral surgery over the past 5 years in the Portland/Vancouver area and I have to say that Dr. Setter's office is above and beyond the best experience I've had. From the initial consultation to the pricing transparency to the scheduling flexibility to the artfully performed surgery itself, THANK ALL OF YOU for putting all that soul in what you do! I'll be back :) read more

Dr. Setter and his team are amazing! Not only do they take great care of my teeth and gums, they screen me for any other kind of oral condition and give me thoughtful ways to improve my Home Care. They are compassionate, highly competent and have a great chairside manner. It feels like I'm visiting friends when I enter the office... I am welcomed warmly, and they remember who I am and details about my life. They take care of me as a person not just another client. I highly recommend them! read more

Epilogue. Because of a traumatic, 'inelastic collision', bicycle dooring accident I had in late 2016, last week, I had my entire mouth treated by LANAP (Regenerative Laser Therapy) as a conservative measure to ameliorating all of the trauma at Dr. Setter's office. Dr. Setter and his staff are efficient and exemplary at their craft. The procedure was completed in three instead of the projected four hours--I'd like to think my active meditation helped facilitate this timeliness to completion. During the procedure, I felt like I had A LOT of 'itches scratched.' My mouth feels 'liberated' and there was only minimal discomfort during the procedure. And now, four days into my recovery, I can already tell this procedure has been effective. Just some mild swelling afterward, but my teeth ALREADY feel stronger, and the gum tissue is generating NICELY. Gotta love cold laser treatment! Indeed, I am in AWE of Dr. Setter. Honestly, I have a visceral dislike for the misuse of the word 'awesome'--the Grand Canyon is awesome, Joshua Tree National Monument is awesome, and Dr. Setter is AWESOME! No doubt in my mind why Dr. Setter was honored back in 2014 as the best periodontist in Portland. Ah hem, I think he needs a repeat award in this realm. read more

Dr. Setter is a wonderful periodontist with a friendly, competent staff. He has finesse in his surgery and is gentle yet fast. I especially appreciate that he keeps his equipment up to date which contributes to results that are above expectations. My implant looks and feels so natural, you would never know its not my own tooth. So happy with it! read more

Dr Setter is dedicated to his profession and he is exceptionally good at it. My work was explained clearly and it went quickly with no pain at all. Bevin, the hygienist is also a rare talent. So lucky to have them together on my team. read more

This was the best dr. experience we've had from start to finish. The staff in the office were friendly and helpful and Dr. Setter was amazing. I had to take my 11 year old in and he was so great with her, taking interest in her and making conversation, explained everything very thoroughly so she wasn't nervous, did a great job on the procedure and then called later that night to make sure we were doing okay. This is incredible service and I would highly recommend this office! read more

Excellent in every way. After a referral from my family Dentist, Dr. Michael Setter met with me, conducted a thorough exam, and discussed the results and his recommendations in detail. He is very patient, answered all of my questions and concerns, made sure I understood everything, gave me options. Great "bedside manner". I then had a deep root cleaning/scaling by their excellent Dental Hygienist Bevin and my gums have never been healthier - thanks Bevin! Thanks to Lydia, their Dental Assistant, who always makes me feel comfortable and welcome. Special thanks to Lisa, their Office Manager, for handling all of my questions, appointments, and coordinating with my insurance carrier. Lots of free parking, easy to get to, peaceful and clean office space, free Wi-Fi. Quality periodontics work, great customer service, very professional all around. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

My dentist recommended Dr. Setter when I needed an implant, and I am so grateful she did. Dr. Setter explained everything he was going to do and patiently answered all of my questions before I underwent any procedure. There were two parts to getting my implant, first removing the tooth and then setting the post for the implant after the site had healed. During both procedures Dr. Setter made sure I was comfortable and not in pain and explained what he was doing as he did it. He then called me later that evening to make sure I was feeling okay and to answer any questions I had. I never once doubted Dr. Setter's competence or that he genuinely cared how I was doing. I'd recommend Dr. Setter to anyone who needs an excellent periodontist or implant dentist. read more

I needed gum grafting surgery and my dentist referred me to Dr. Michael Setter. I had my surgery November and December 2016, so this review is a little late, but my thoughts and feelings have not changed one bit! I was more than pleased with my treatment with Dr. Setter. His staff was very friendly and professional. Dr. Setter himself did amazing work on my gums, and the entire process was really easy and painless. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Setter to anyone, and I have raved about him to my friends. I was afraid going in to the procedure, and Dr. Setter explained what would happen to ease my fears. I was having three grafts done in three different areas, and they would be done on two separate occasions (two at first appointment and one at the second appointment). Part of me wondered if it was wise going in twice because what if the first time was so painful and scary that I would be afraid to go in the second time? Well, it was a breeze, and I didn't even any pain or discomfort during the procedure. The aftercare was also a breeze, and I experienced very little pain or discomfort. So, when I needed the third graft done, I had no anxiety or fear whatsoever. If you care about your dental health whatsoever, you will see Dr. Setter! If you read this Dr. Setter, thank you and your staff so much for such a pleasant experience (if you can call gum grafting pleasant)!!! read more

I could not have had a more wonderful experience with Dr. Setter. His staff Lisa, Lydia and Bevin are kind, prompt and helpful. Dr. Setter himself is honest, transparent, compassionate and clearly very well educated in his specialty. I have never gotten the impression that he's trying to sell me or encourage me to invest in something beyond what's necessary. I trust him entirely and would recommend him to anyone. read more

Dr Setter & his staff helped me with an implant I needed about a year ago & I could not have asked for a better experience. Everyone was so friendly & helpful. Dr Setter especially helped make this change for me so smooth. He was knowledgeable & thorough with all aspects of the process before during & after. I hope to never need this again :) but if I do, I know who I will go to. Thank you so much! read more

Dr Setter took over the practice after my long time periodontist. I must say I was a bit skeptical as no one likes change. He is a breath of fresh air. His knowledge of the newest technology and his down home attitude toward all of his patients is such a treat. His staff are also friendly and approachable. Do not let his young looks deceive you. He knows what he is doing. I highly recommend that if you are looking for a caring periodontist please consider him. You will not be disappointed in the service. read more

I have rarely been so fortunate as to have someone as professional and as generous as Dr. Setter come into my life. His knowledge of dentistry is truly impressive. He always explains (in a manner I understand) what he is doing and why. He offers information about potential problems he sees. He works well with my primary dentist. I am also aware that Dr. Setter supports our community and kindly volunteers his services. What a great periodontist and person. read more

Dr. Michael Setter is one of the most expensive dentists you will encounter in your search. Be sure to shop around and avoid getting sucked in to over paying and over treating by Dr. Setter's smooth demeanor. Dr. Michael Setter will smile at you while he explains why your treatment will need multiple visits and excessive antibiotics. You will find that this is not only unnecessary but much more costly as well. Dr. Setter will also over charge you if you need sedation. When his office emailed me my pricing and treatment schedule, I nearly fainted. I called around to see how much sedation would cost if I hired my own anesthesiologist from an agency and it was nearly half of what I was quoted by Lisa in Dr. Setters office. I hate being over charged. When I asked Dr. Setter why his prices were so high over the phone, there was no good answer, just arrogant excuses. Dr. Setter is young, in his 40s, and way over priced for a small marginal facility, I would not recommend him to any one. Dr. Henshaw confirmed my belief that the treatment in question should be done all at once to not reinfect my mouth and to avoid unnecessary over use of antibiotics. The sedation cost at Dr Henshaw's office was a few hundred dollars instead of $1,500 as quoted by Dr. Setter's office that I would have needed twice if I had listened to him. My treatment with Dr. Henshaw was not only cost and effective ( about 1/3 less than what I was quoted by Dr Setter) but done in one visit and very successful as well. Dr. Henshaw has an excellent reputation and a very busy practice, still they did everything in their power to get me an appointment right away. I couldn't be happier with the service and the fair price I paid to Portland Periodontics, Dr. Henshaw. In summary, it pays to shop around when choosing a dentist or any other health care professional.. read more
