I'm not sure how else to put this than that I left from a gum graft procedure feeling inspired and incredibly grateful for the work of Dr. Setter and the staff at his office. He is an artist in his work and always speaks with passion and relatability when it comes to oral surgery. Most importantly, I felt that my comfort throughout the procedure, as well as a job expertly done, were the doctor's top priorities. During the entire graft, which was performed along the bottom row of my front teeth (6-8 teeth), Dr. Setter was artistically patient and gentle. Even with the numbing injections he went very slowly which made them nearly painless. I could tell he was immensely in tune with my the meticulous nature of the procedure he was performing: his movements were intentional and made with delicate finesse and care. The way he spoke with his assistant (wish I'd caught her name), as well as other staff members, when sharing instructions in the craft or requesting additional supplies was humble, respectful and patient. The energy was so positive! I've visited Dr. Setter's office 3 times in the past year or so. I've had a boatload of oral surgery over the past 5 years in the Portland/Vancouver area and I have to say that Dr. Setter's office is above and beyond the best experience I've had. Epilogue. Because of a traumatic, 'inelastic collision', bicycle dooring accident I had in late 2016, last week, I had my entire mouth treated by LANAP (Regenerative Laser Therapy) as a conservative measure to ameliorating all of the trauma at Dr. Setter's office. Dr. Setter and his staff are efficient and exemplary at their craft. The procedure was completed in three instead of the projected four hours--I'd like to think my active meditation helped facilitate this timeliness to completion. During the procedure, I felt like I had A LOT of 'itches scratched.' My mouth feels 'liberated' and there was only minimal discomfort during the procedure. And now, four days into my recovery, I can already tell this procedure has been effective. Just some mild swelling afterward, but my teeth ALREADY feel stronger, and the gum tissue is generating NICELY. Gotta love cold laser treatment! Indeed, I am in AWE of Dr. Setter. Honestly, I have a visceral dislike for the misuse of the word 'awesome'--the Grand Canyon is awesome, Joshua Tree National Monument is awesome, and Dr. Setter is AWESOME! No doubt in my mind why Dr. Setter was honored back in 2014 as the best periodontist in Portland. Ah hem, I think he needs a repeat award in this realm. read more

My dentist recommended Dr. Setter when I needed an implant, and I am so grateful she did. Dr. Setter explained everything he was going to do and patiently answered all of my questions before I underwent any procedure. There were two parts to getting my implant, first removing the tooth and then setting the post for the implant after the site had healed. During both procedures Dr. Setter made sure I was comfortable and not in pain and explained what he was doing as he did it. He then called me later that evening to make sure I was feeling okay and to answer any questions I had. I never once doubted Dr. Setter's competence or that he genuinely cared how I was doing. I needed gum grafting surgery and my dentist referred me to Dr. Michael Setter. I had my surgery November and December 2016, so this review is a little late, but my thoughts and feelings have not changed one bit! I was more than pleased with my treatment with Dr. Setter. His staff was very friendly and professional. Dr. Setter himself did amazing work on my gums, and the entire process was really easy and painless. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Setter to anyone, and I have raved about him to my friends. I was afraid going in to the procedure, and Dr. Setter explained what would happen to ease my fears. I was having three grafts done in three different areas, and they would be done on two separate occasions (two at first appointment and one at the second appointment). Part of me wondered if it was wise going in twice because what if the first time was so painful and scary that I would be afraid to go in the second time? Well, it was a breeze, and I didn't even any pain or discomfort during the procedure. The aftercare was also a breeze, and I experienced very little pain or discomfort. So, when I needed the third graft done, I had no anxiety or fear whatsoever. If you care about your dental health whatsoever, you will see Dr. Setter! Dr Setter took over the practice after my long time periodontist. I must say I was a bit skeptical as no one likes change. He is a breath of fresh air. Dr. Michael Setter is one of the most expensive dentists you will encounter in your search. Be sure to shop around and avoid getting sucked in to over paying and over treating by Dr. Setter's smooth demeanor. Dr. Michael Setter will smile at you while he explains why your treatment will need multiple visits and excessive antibiotics. You will find that this is not only unnecessary but much more costly as well. Dr. Setter will also over charge you if you need sedation. When his office emailed me my pricing and treatment schedule, I nearly fainted. I called around to see how much sedation would cost if I hired my own anesthesiologist from an agency and it was nearly half of what I was quoted by Lisa in Dr. Setters office. I hate being over charged. When I asked Dr. Setter why his prices were so high over the phone, there was no good answer, just arrogant excuses. Dr. Setter is young, in his 40s, and way over priced for a small marginal facility, I would not recommend him to any one. Dr. Henshaw confirmed my belief that the treatment in question should be done all at once to not reinfect my mouth and to avoid unnecessary over use of antibiotics. The sedation cost at Dr Henshaw's office was a few hundred dollars instead of $1,500 as quoted by Dr. Setter's office that I would have needed twice if I had listened to him. My treatment with Dr. Henshaw was not only cost and effective ( about 1/3 less than what I was quoted by Dr Setter) but done in one visit and very successful as well. Dr. Henshaw has an excellent reputation and a very busy practice, still they did everything in their power to get me an appointment right away. I couldn't be happier with the service and the fair price I paid to Portland Periodontics, Dr. Henshaw.
