I really like going to this place for lunch. The service is friendly and fast. Its perfect if your looking for some cheap tex-mex for lunch. I thought it was pretty cool that they give a ramekin with some beans as a free appetizer with your chips and salsa. I have never seen anywhere do that before. The ground beef is pretty gross though, it reminds me of Chef Boyardee. Just stay away from that and you will be pleased with your meal. I will definitely go back. read more

Best Authentic Mexican in Denton!!! I'm so excited that we found Mi Ranchito! I lived in San Diego and Los Angeles and so adjusting to Tex-mex has been an issue...FINALLY an authentic Mexican restaurant! The beans were creamy and delicious and the tacos were amazing and on homemade tortillas. My boyfriend had a chimichanga and said it was the best one he's had since he moved to Denton. I am a repeat customer. It is the best and closest thing you can get to authentic Tex-Mex food in Denton. The fajitas are the best! Most restaurants take regular beef and season it and call it fajita but Mi Ranchito uses the right cut and it shows through the quality and taste. The seating area is small and so is the parking area. Be careful around lunch time because you will have a hard time finding a spot to park. They have great lunch menu prices, though. We moved to Denton in 2008 from McAllen, Tx (about 10 miles north of Mexico) so we had been searching for more Mex and less Tex in the area. This is the closest we've found! Their enchiladas are delicious, and their carne guisada hits the spot! The chips are a little thicker than I like (Chuy's is the hands down best in that department--but nothing else) but that never keeps us away. I absolutely LOVE the little cup of free charro beans they bring. The man that owns/manages the place is super nice and always seems happy to see us. It feels good to support a local business. Our family loves MI Ranchito, the food is always well done and very tasty, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is very friendly. The salsa is very good, and everything I've had on the menu is really good. We love to order the Beef Carnita's Potisinas and probably eat there at least once or twice a month. About the only negative thing I might say is when you go be prepared to spend some time, they bring the salsa and what i would call a bean soup, which is also good immediately, and it doesn't take too long for the food, but it always seems to take a while to get your bill after you have finished, but the food definately makes it worth while to spend some time here. read more

It isn't very often that we feel misled by Yelp but this was definitely one of those times. I don't get how this place is so well reviewed. We had dinner here on a weekday a few weeks back. We pulled up and my husband asked if I was sure about the place (I had found it on Yelp). I reminded him of the amazing reviews and we soldiered on. There were a few other tables seated when we got there. Our drink order was taken pretty much immediately. We ordered queso with chorizo at the same time. Our drinks came out quickly, then the queso showed up with tortillas. Chips and salsa eventually made their way over. The queso....no. It wasn't like a dip, more like melted shredded cheese that had to be broken apart with our fingers or even scooped with a fork...then separated with our fingers. It wasn't good. To the point of me not being able to eat any of it. The chips and salsa were decent though. I ordered the cheese enchiladas and thought I was good to go but then after a few bites I realized how overly greasy the dish was and had a hard time stomaching it. What was strange was that, while greasy, the enchiladas seemed to be lacking any flavor whatsoever. So all in all, a fail for us. I guess they are a local institution and we are the weird outsiders. OMG! I used to come here for good Mexican food, unfortunately, I think this place has changed hands. It's just cheap Mexican food now, but they still charge premium prices! I went here many times and had a great meal, here lately I have gotten really bad service, terrible food, and smart elick attitude from the manager/power trippin idiot that I tried to explain this to! I ordered a plate that on the menu had "peppers", Mexican food figured it was poblanos, jalapeños, whathaveya, Nope bell peppers fresh green uncooked. I changed my order to combination nachos, I get brought beef nachos! They were Just NASTY, I did not even eat half of them! My sister ordered the beef nachos and they were nasty too! My wife ordered cheese enchiladas and they were cold and wrong! They have one person running around like a chicken with their head cut off, trying to do it all! So I proceed to tell the man there that seemed to be the manager, and he said " well we charge you for the plate you order" to which I reply even if I don't eat anything on the plate? And he said " well that's a plate we don't make money off of if we don't" ! At this point I'm fuming, so I said ok I tell you what you ring up all 4 plates, oh wait make that 5 cause I ordered those nachos to replace the first plate I didn't eat, I will pay you and you can bet your last dollar I will not be back! He said he would only charge me for two of the plates, prolly to shut me up because I was getting loud by this point! I have never paid for a plate that I could not eat! We went there tonight on the recommendation of Erin who works at the Holiday Inn Expess we were staying at. The food was great and nice and hot. My husband loved the salsa and they has 2 small bowl of beans one seemed to have little slices of hot dogs that they also served with the chips. I had the cheese enchalads and my hubby had the tamales. Both were very good. Not fancy very good prices. If we lived here we would come back often!!! read more
