I have been going to this incredible Mexican Restaurant since 2005. They always are welcoming, and they are always caring. This Family-owned restaurant is where families have dined forever. Besides in 20 years, the guests we've taken there, really had a great time. People have different likes and dislikes, allowing them the "freedom" to decide. Here is what I would tell you if you asked, if I knew of a really good Mexican Restaurant in Casa Grande. I would recommend Mi Amigo Ricardo, and here's why . . . . . We've been going about twice a month, always enjoy going. For Lunch or Dinner, you can't beat it. Great Authentic Mexican Food, excellent service, great prices. When we get there, we feel like we are eating in a restaurant in a nice town on the coast. You eat there several times and become comfortable, and I like comfortable. It's what we should all do. While visiting family they suggested this restaurant. I ordered the two flautas. One chicken one beef. Well, I was served two burned beef flautas. They were incredibly dry. The waitress was unfriendly. She ignored us and we were left waiting for the check far more than it should have taken. If you've got this far I will tell you what was good. The guacamole tasted fresh, the salsa was excellent, and the honey for the Sopapias was good. Sadly it wasn't enough to make the experience pleasant. I regretted going here and wished we'd gone elsewhere especially on our last night visiting AZ. read more

I was just in town for one evening and this place was recommended for dinner. I had the Sonora #10 entree and it was good. I even left the black olives on there and I typically do not eat them. The chips and salsa were good. I came mainly for the sopapillas and they were good but not outstanding as I had hoped. They were overcooked. Maybe I should have ordered a second batch. I like them plain with some honey. I like supporting local and this restaurant has been around for over 4 decades so they are doing something right. I would stop by again. read more

( This is the second of five reviews I've prepared for describing some of the food I ate while I was out in Phoenix, Arizona. ) Part of the reason I was in Phoenix to begin with was work, which also means driving out to the surrounding areas for business. Of course, when you're working, it's also very easy to build up an appetite. Due to Arizona's proximity to the Mexican border, it's easy to find a Mexican restaurant or three nearby -- this one is one that came client-recommended, hence why we came here! Mi Amigo Ricardo is one of the more popular Mexican restaurants in Casa Grande, and that much was obvious when we got there and saw a lot of packed tables. With old-school ranch decor, murals painted all over the walls, and wood beams and paneling everywhere, it gave off the feel of the Wild West -- which I suspect that the owners were going for. Anyway, on to the food itself -- I will fully disclose that as we were here for a business lunch, my review will be fairly sparse when it comes to how many dishes I was able to try. However, their menu has pretty much all the "greatest hits" you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant, like tacos, fajitas, nachos, enchiladas, etc. Their chips and salsa are addicting, though -- the sals in particular packed a surprising kick that was quite addictive! I ended up getting the Mazatlan combination -- a ground beef taco and cheese enchilada with rice and beans. While I will say that it was good, I'll also admit that it was a bit underseasoned -- I could have done with more spice on my food, though I remedied it by adding some of the chip salsa to my offerings. That said, though, I played it rather safe by getting the ground beef taco ( or a "gringo taco" as some of my non-work friends would call it ) and cheese enchilada -- I suspect that if I'd tried something else, I would've been more satisfied. That said, though, the food was still pretty decent and I liked what I ate! The servers were also attentive and made sure our drinks were refilled quickly. Overall, a great experience; if you're out at Casa Grande, you can't go wrong by coming here for lunch or dinner. read more

Great food and service. 2 of us arrived at the beginning of the busy noon time on a Saturday. Our waiter was attentive. We ordered the fajitas. We split it and it was plenty for the two of us. Food is consistently served visit after visit with the same flavors and hot. Ground beef taco I think is very flavorful compared to other restaurants in Casa Grande. Good flavor in the green and red sauces. Tamales & enchiladas are good. Love the Albonigas soup with tasty meatballs. Taco salads in 2 sizes should be tried. Rice and beans above average. The food was awesome! Most chicken fajitas are overcooked. Not here. Mine were some of the best I've ever had. My only suggestion is, if you plan to patronize this place, just be patient. As soon as we came in they were fast to get us seated, before we sat they got our drink orders, and right after that someone came by with chips and salsa for our table. They did quick drink, salsa and chip refills, and then our food orders were taken quick and timely manner. The waitress was polite did 2-3 check ins, and brought out our orders in less than an hour. My parents came down from Marana today and we had lunch at Ricardo's. The parking lot was full but we found a spot and were seated within a few minutes of arriving. As soon as you enter the restaurant you are greeted by the hostess. The walls are painted as if you were eating in Mexico. Shortly after we were seated we received waters and chips and salsa. The chips were nice and thin and cooked just right. The salsa had a little bit of a kick to it, but hey, we're eating Mexican cuisine. My parents ordered the chicken and steak fajitas. I had a shredded beef burrito. The food came out fairly quickly, nice and hot and flavorful! When they tell you the plate is "hot" when they're serving you, it is hot!! The prices at Ricardo's are pretty reasonable. And you get a lot of food for your money. Both my parents ate all of their fajitas and said it was some of the best fajitas they'd had. These two spends months each year living in Mexico and eating Mexican food. I was barely able to finish my burrito. I easily could've brought half of it home for a late night snack. Once I discovered that they have chunky salsa available for an additional fee, this restaurant improved (in my opinion). I had a green & red chili chimichanga at my last visit, rather than my usual taco salad. The chimichanga was yummy. The waitress even brought me sample tastes of the red & green chili. Just had a wonderful meal here. Service was on time and courteous. After receiving chips and salsa, my waiter came for my drink order. Meal was served quickly and food tasted great. Oh, the sound system was playing oldies. This was great because these were the songs I grew up with. I was also very pleased with the dessert that was served which topped off my birthday celebration. This has been our go to restaurant for Mexican food, 15 Yelp Check Ins here. Going forward maybe not. My ground beef chimichanga enchilada style was not as good as previous occasions. Inconsistent fry and enchilada sauce portion as well as added beans this visit. My wife had a combo plate. Waitress (we had not seen before) either had a chip on her shoulder or carried her problems to work, no eye contact or inquiries how our plates were, attitude. Bottle of beer price has gone up each of the last 3 visits, now $5.00 for a Coors light, no happy hour here. Real insult was when my wife paid at register and handed the owner a $100.00 bill, he gave her the change minus a 20% tip WITHOUT ASKING. We already left a more than generous cash tip on table. If my wife hadn't taken the time to count her change we would have left a 40% tip. He said he didn't hear her re tip. Not cool. Would like to think this is a "one off" but I told my wife I won't be returning anytime soon. Owner using slight of hand to reward an otherwise poor waitress. 4 of us met at Ricardo's for lunch as it is half way between Tucson and Phoenix; two of us from Tucson and two from Phoenix. Walking in, it is a large restaurant, very busy with lots of help on hand. The place is incredibly noisy. We were served water as soon as we sat down, along with menus. The chips were good, the salsa tasted like catsup with pepper in it - group consensus, not just my opinion. Our server came back a few times to take our orders but we weren't ready. Finally when we were ready, he was there immediately. One friend ordered a Sonoran enchilada, one ordered a burro, another a taco and enchilada plate. I ordered the green chili platter. After a long wait the food arrived. The Sonoran Enchilada was not a Sonoran Enchilada. It should have been a masa patty, seared on both sides and topped with whatever the customer chose. This was two corn tortillas, one of top of the other, with green chili over the tortillas. My green chili platter had chunks of fat and chunks of gristle in it. The beans and rice were good. I didn't finish the meal. The two other friends did not finish their food and did not take it with them. The consensus at the table was 2 stars for Ricardo's. Ricardo's is advertised as authentic Mexican food. It's not authentic Mexican food at all. I won't go back to Ricardo's. read more

This is hands down my must-have when I am in town. It is always at the top of my list when we plan to visit AZ. It is family-owned, community-loved. Many city officials frequent this restaurant and they have a back dining room great for larger crowds. They get busy. We try and go during the off-hours just to ensure our wait isn't too long with little kids, this place is always full of happy customers (rightfully so) I love Ricardo's. I love the staff, I love the food, I love the history, and it feels like home. It is a nice restaurant but old school, and I love it. They do not try to be anything other than themselves and that is what makes them great. I would love the secret to their salsa recipe, it is unmatched anywhere I've ever been. It has the perfect balance of spice, acidity, and flavor. It is perfect with the chips it comes with but on ANY (yes, any) entree item. We ended up sharing the large bowl of albondigas with several people in our group - the server is the one that offered to bring us small bowls as she heard how we planned on sharing the bowl (we didn't even think to ask for small bowls). You gotta add rice if you want to do it right. I like adding a dollop of salsa in it with a little lemon. chef's kiss. Personally, I ordered the shredded beef chimi with enchilda sauce. It is my go-to. I love the touch of lettuce too. SOOOO good. It never fails to be an incredible dish. This trip, my nephew was not overly hungry and he wanted fries - we asked if they could add the cheese they use on the nachos (which they clarified was NOT nacho cheese - thank goodness) and the fries we delicious. They were perfectly crisp and the melted cheese...I think I transcended that day. I dream about this food and it is my beacon when I think about visiting 115º+ weather in AZ. Always a local favorite for our family! The food is always amazing! My mom regularly gets a small chicken taco salad and loves it! My sisters "go-to" is 2 cheese enchiladas with onions and rice and beans. She does not deviate! Sometimes we go for a quick lunch, then she goes back with her hubby for dinner and gets THEM AGAIN!! The service is top notch! Our favorite server is Michelle if she's still there. The atmosphere is relaxed, clean and professional! If you stop in Casa Grande for the day- make sure you stop over! I found my way to this restaurant last week by chance. I figured it would be good since there were a lot of people dining at 3:00 pm on a Friday. I was right. The restaurant is the classic style with a host, staff, owner walking around and salsa and chips at the table. I ordered two shredded beef tacos, rice and an ice tea. Delicious. Wow, just wow. We stopped here on one of our driving excursions checking out the area around us. It looked bust, so between that and a few Yelp reviews we decided on stopping for lunch. The chips and salsa were okay (the chips were room temp and having warmed chips a few weeks ago I was starting to wonder). The service was great. Jacob took care of us, answered questions on the menu and checked in throughout the meal. Now for the show stopper: Hubby got combo #3 - crispy shredded beef taco, red chili burro enchilada style (doused in sauce and cheese) and a tostada. For a man who loves tacos, and has had some great tacos lately, this one was top of the class, best taco ever. Then he got to the red chili burro - also amazing. The beef was slow cooked tender and tasty. The tostada was very good. I had the green chili burro enchilada style. The meat was tender, a little bigger pieces than the red chili, and the taste was terrific. It had just the right complexity of seasoning. ROACHES FOUND! If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Our waiter, don't know his name but he's white and middle aged, was just horrible. He came to our table for our drink order and I have never been there before (we are visiting from CA) and I asked first if they had horchata and he said no so I said okay no worries, do you have chocolate milk and he said that's assuming we even have milk back there and I said no worries do you have apple juice and he said no so I said okay what do you have for kids to drink and he said same thing for adults so I said okay and what is that and he said coke products so I said okay... HiC? He said it's pink lemonade so I ordered that for my kids but like did we really need to do all that just to get to pink lemonade. Like was the attitude necessary and the remarks. I have never been there how am I supposed to know what they have for drinks. On their menu it doesn't say pink lemonade so how was I supposed to know. Also by saying coke products every single place I have been to has different Coke products so that means nothing to me! Next problem we found 2 baby roaches crawling on the wall right next to our table. My husband was able to catch 1 but not the other one. We were hungry or hangry driving along I-10 outside of Phoenix and knew we had to stop soon. Consequently Mi Amigo Ricardo popped up on our radar. It is a bit off the interstate, but a busy, family owned local Mexican restaurant. Classic, old school piping hot platters and comfy booths. While we waited for our meal, we noshed on free chips & salsa, a Negro Modello for David & nicely brewed ice tea for me. So...David ordered a beef & bean burrito smothered with green chili. He adored it...it was massive, arriving on a piping hot plate. The green chili chock full of small chunks of pork, still with a bit of chew but not tough. He was in heaven. I ordered the green corn tamale which was the most tender tamale I've ever had. It was huge, 1/2 the size of David's burrito. I ordered it a la cart because a single tamale plate with rice & beans wasn't offered. Glad I did, it was more than enough food. Instead of a distinct filled, the green chili seemed to be worked thru the masa, no cheese, delicious! I did get it smothered, why not?! I had ordered it Christmas style (1/2 1/2 red & green chili, but only received the green) I checked the ticket and it was written how I requested. I wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars. The service was excellent. The owner came over and chatted with us. We loved the food, I was disappointed that I didn't get to try the red chili and also bummed that the outdoor seating wasn't very nice, all 1/2 benches that seem like it is more of a hang out area rather than dining, so we had to keep the dogs in the car. Drove by this place on my way to another Mexican restaurant, but the volume of cars in the parking lot grabbed my attention, did a u-turn and was so glad. The chili relleno smothered in green pork chili was one of the best I've ever had. I asked if it was deep fried, my screening question, if it had been deep fat fried I would have passed. It was made soft with an egg batter, top notch, texture and flavor were perfect. Guacamole tostado was super fresh and enchilada sauce was unique and very good!
