Crispy California Roll
Louise S.

I just ordered takeout of the crispy California roll. Amazing!!! The roll is generous with avocado and crab salad inside, with crispy batter and crunchy topping and sauce. I took advantage of their 2-for-1 special.

I have loved this place for years! It's not in my neighborhood so I rarely get here anymore. Authentic and good quality. Street parking and 3 parking spots right behind the restaurant. The atmosphere is basic but clean. The service is great! Extensive menu options! Lot's of vegan and vegetarian options. One of my favorite sushi restaurants in all of California!

16 Piece Special Maki Combination

- combo#1 - special sushi deluxe #3 - sake sushi I've ordered from here multiple times now in-person, but mainly delivery. Pricing is solid and honestly I have no issue with it for the quality and amount of sushi I get. I usually get the sushi deluxe box, because I like getting a variety of nigiri. There's usually one nigiri that I don't super like but that's because I'm usually someone that just likes salmon. The rice isn't densely packed like some other places and the fish is actually pprreetttyyyy darn good. Salmon nigiri is really good. Spicy tuna roll is so good. The maki rolls I got in the combo was basic but like...that's what a maki roll is. Whenever I'm craving quality sushi, MG sushi is both accessible and able to provide quality sushi...it's hard to beat. (When ordering in person...they were done making it really quickly too!! 10-15min max) Plus the lil pudding cups they give for each combo or deluxe box is my favorite touch

We weren't overly impressed. We ordered takeout and got back to our hotel to find that we weren't given chop sticks and we were missing our added sauces. Our hotel was out of the way so it wasn't worth it to go back. The sushi wasn't bad but it wasn't great either and it was difficult to eat without utensils.

Santa Cruz Roll, Mi Corazon Roll, & Super California 08/01/2020
Hana M.

Visiting the area, we decided to order the Santa Cruz, Mi Corazon, and Super CA. We called to place the order and the lady over the phone said, "45 mins wait"; we ordered and my husband went to go pick up 30 mins after the order was placed. The rolls were beautifully created and had 'perfection' written all over it. Taste would've been a 5 star rating!! Packed with flavors, every bite had captured every flavor of the description. But...we waited an additional 2 hours on top of the 45 mins wait! Courtesy to the Itamae (sushi chef)...who was solo, according to my husband! It's whoever that's receiving the order who should have stopped taking orders, or gave a realistic wait time, if the chef is behind. 5 stars to itame...but overall experience is 3 stars.

49ers Roll and Santa Cruz Roll
Ditto -.

8/10 Dittos! Delicious rolls and have no complaints. Affordable and decent quality sushi in Santa Cruz. Honestly really shocked about the reviews for this place because it was honestly really good! For someone that is rather picky about the quality of fish, this place was decent especially for the price being the cheapest I've seen in the area. Maybe it's cause we got it delivered but who knows. My roommate and I decided to Uber Eats sushi for dinner since we were both craving it. We both got two rolls each, my roommate getting 2 orange blossoms, and for me a 49ers and Santa Cruz roll. They packaged them individually just as we asked and came labeled as well. The 49ers roll wasnt really traditional and had spicy tuna and no lemons in sight, but was still pretty tasty. The Santa Cruz roll was absolutely delicious. The mango pairs really nicely with the salmon + crab and added a nice sweetness. My roommate let me try her orange blossom roll which I'll definitely get next time because it ended up being my favorite! If you love salmon I definitely recommend ordering that. The wasabi comes in little sachets for connivence and the ginger was good. This place is now gonna be my go to for sushi in Santa Cruz. It's definitely not omakase quality but not safeway quality either. The delivery and preparation was extremely quick too! It's decent and for how much you pay it's for sure worth giving it a try at least.

Ask the Community - MG Sushi

Do they use real crab or imitation crab like practically every other place in Santa Cruz?

They have dishes that utilize both, but California Rolls traditionally use imitation crab at every sushi place I've visited in the country. You're probably looking for dishes that have "soft-shell" crab which they do serve.

Could someone tell me the exact address of MG Sushi? I've seen addresses on both Ocean St. and Seabright Ave. so I'm a bit confused about which one is correct

It's new address is 1733 Seabright Ave. They moved out of the Ocean St. location.

But we think we made the right choice ordering the pepper based one, which was tangy, spicy and unique as this dishes are based on west african cusine. Roasted veggies and were all in right mix along with a surpise, it had big chunks of sweet potatoes. Which really heled to savor this dish even more as it cut through the spice and tanginess, beautiful addition. We will try their other items when we get a chance. Good call!

Started off with the artichoke and maitake crostini and it looked fantastic. The crostini wasn't super fresh and wasn't warm. I've had better crostinis in Paris. I do love the European portions at this restaurant so I can try more dishes! Moved on to the corn that the waitress highly suggested and it was very fragrant and tasty. Opted for the miso cod and it was excellent. This was served over a bed of rice which was decent. The rice was pretty fluffy and the miso glaze over the cod was a touch on the stronger side. The cod was cooked to perfection. Loved the side of cucumbers! Ended off the meal with the chocolate mousse which had a fantastic layer over foam and strawberries on top. Loved how it wasn't too sweet too! ~$90/head after tax and gratuity for dinner.
