This place is completely hit or miss depending on the people working there that day. Once day the food was a passable but overpriced. The other it was way too much food at a cheaper price. The next they didn't even start our phone in order until we showed up 20 minutes after it was supposed to be ready. Obviously they're happy in a college town hiring college folks who just don't care about service or quality. Wouldn't survive anywhere where you actually had to be consistent and reliable. Let me start by saying that I love this place. The last few times I've been here the pizza has been soggy and doughy. I couldn't pick it up it was just a goo ball. I don't know if this is just the downtown location because when I went to Springfield one it was much better. Maybe the downtown location is going through changes. What more can I say than "my favorite pizza place in town" 3.25-3.75 per slice with usually about 4 pizzas in the window. Thin crispy crust with great ingredients. Salads are pretty good and very healthy with the balsamic vinaigrette as well. Wife and I usually split 2 slices and a salad for dinner, they will cut the slices in half for you if requested! I think I have a new favorite lunch spot. For two slices of pizza and a medium salad that's big enough to split by itself, I paid a little over $12 for two people. It being a beautiful spring day, something light and summery was calling my name, so the Greek salad hit the spot. Lots of greens, wonderfully acidic pickled veggies, a little bit of cheese and balsalmic dressing on top. To pair with that, we got Oliver's Travels (olives, meat, all the happiness in the world on a crust) and Pining Spinster (pine nuts, spinach, an amazing white sauce and love) to split. The atmosphere ranges from a little quiet to busy as heck during lunchtime, so be prepared to share a table with a stranger when noon rolls around. All that said, I'm kinda picky when it comes to pizza; I like a good NY style crust, a tomato sauce with the proper amount of acidity and sweetness, and fresh toppings. So far, I haven't found that combo at too many places, but Mezza Luna has it all together. Thanks to my pizza whisperer friend, I tried this place today and was delighted. read more

You really can't find better pizza in Eugene. Anyone that says Bene is better is on crack. Sy's is filthy but decent. Pegasus is okay, but not great. And the Pizza Research Institute isn't really pizza. (Don't get me wrong, it's scrumptious but it's not really pizza and it can 45 minutes just for a single freakin' slice of pizza!) The key is to get a slice when it's fresh or just order a whole pie. It can also depend on who is making the pizza as on occasion a bad pie will come out of the oven and be just a little too thin. The Great White and anything with the house-recipe sausage are delicious! They also have good beer on tap and some hand-picked wines as well. In the not too recent past, pizza-by-the-slice joints were rare. In Oregon they were anyway. You might find them rimming college-campuses, or high schools. But that's about it. Mezza Luna now provides a spot in downtown Eugene, and gives you higher-end pizza and local beers to wash it down. If Eugene has a better pizza spot, please somebody let me know, because I gotta see it to believe it. Mezza Luna catered my best friend's wedding at the end of August. They were amazing. The employees who brought out the food were so nice and helpful. They went above and beyond and I was incredibly grateful. The food was fantastic and stayed nice and warm in the bags they provided until we were ready to put more out. I think so, though there's strong competition, ML wins. Delicious, interesting pizzas - the classics are classically good, the novelties are dependably good too (kind of nice to feel bold without risk!). Caesar is very fresh, correct, could be a tad more flavorful but that's quibbling. AND THEY SELL PIZZA BY THE SLICE!! Four choices every day! Lunch special (large, generous slice & side caesar) is a good deal. A few sidewalk tables if it's nice. Yup. My vote for the "Best of Eug." read more

This by far is the place if you are looking for the real deal! Their pizza is by far the best and the way it should be done. Some may not like their price's, but hey you get what you pay for. The power of Yelp: Blazing south on I-5 and we want pizza. If it weren't for smartphones, Yelp and mobile internet, we'd have never found this place--and we'd have missed out. Mezza Luna is a pretty decent place to go for a slice of pizza at lunch, or to pick up some pizza to take home. It's your typical chewy crust pizza with a slightly below average thickness. As such it definitely qualifies as 'American take out pizza' and not the authentic Neapolitan pizza (which you can only get at La Perla in Eugene). Since the atmosphere is very 'open kitchen cafe' style, I probably wouldn't go to Mezza Luna to have dinner, but you can get pizza to go made quickly and they always have a reasonable variety of meat/veggie/cheese pizzas ready and sliced. While I would definitely rank Mezza Luna among the better pizzerias in town, it really isn't all that spectacular (I have a strong preference for Neapolitan pizza and can't stand oversauced soggy thick pizzas). The review I read when they'd just opened (in the Register Guard or Eugene Weekly probably) had led me to believe this place serves 'authentic italian pizzas' which may account for my disappointment and three star rating. Until somewhat recently, Mezza Luna was my go-to place with the exception of those nights when I just wanted delivery and grabbed some Papa John's. I only go to La Perla now though. So if you're looking for American style pizzas: Mezza Luna is probably your best bet. If you want Neapolitan, only La Perla will satisfy. read more

I don't hit this place up very often, but every time I do, I am extremely satisfied. You may not know it when you see them take a slice of room temp already cooked pizza and throw it back in the oven, but you are about to get a great slice of authentic tasting thin crispy crust pizza. Their toppings seem high quality as well. I like the cozy atmosphere. It is not too loud or claustrophobic, but it is modestly sized. Great pizza and it's even available for delivery via ponyexpressdelivery.com. On a girls night in we ordered a large pie half Greekish and half Savory Garden and both sides were a huge hit. The Greekish was covered in all the typical Greek inspired ingredients (feta and olives) but the artichokes and eggplant addition was a seriously good call. So far I have to say Mezza Luna is my favorite place to order pizza from in Eugene. I thought the crust and toppings were really great and the overall cost wasn't as heartbreaking as some other establishments I've tried to order pizza from ($50 for two pizzas, seriously?!). My wicked affair with dough takes place a few nights per month and I like it dressed as pizza. Since I'm very particular with the devil (aka: bread) passing through my lips and doing an outrageous dance in my gastrointestinal system, I opt for the best taste lingering in my mouth. I like the thick and slightly spicy red sauce, the buttery cheese, the kick in the pepperoni, and the creative, but simple toppings in their single slices. I also like being able to add a topping or two in the slices. I recommend the wild mushrooms. What I like best is the fresh, thin crust; it's just enough "bread," not at all overwhelming for the toppings. They also have fabulous salads. My roommate raved about this place, preaching how he had traveled the east coast for the best pizza and said this place rates high on his list of good pizza places. Maybe he overhyped it. I came here to order a take out pepperoni. The pizza was your basic new york style pizza. The large was a true large, aroma was fragrant and had hints of herbs and spices. First bite from the pizza revealed great tasting pepperoni and mozzarella. The sauce was good, I liked it, but it felt like if I had just a little more tomato sauce in the pizza I would have loved the pizza even more. Overall it seems like your average good quality pizza. I wouldn't call this place a hole in the wall. I wouldn't call this place upscale either. Its basically a good pizza. Good ingredients, good taste, but nothing to write home about. As a native Midwesterner, I like my pizza crust thick and deep dish. That said, NY style is all the rage out here and I've had to adapt. Something I can not excuse is soggy, paper thin slices and that's what you find much of the time, but not at Mezza Luna. Slices are thin and crisp, they mix up the variety for what's available for slices each day, their salads are very generously sized and packed full of goodies. As pizza goes, this is good stuff. Its hard to find gluten free pizza that actually has good crust, but this was definitely the place to go. The thin crust was extra crispy and had a great flavor.
