We are so glad we had the opportunity to dine in Mezcal this past Thursday. As soon as you pulled up into the parking lot, there were gorgeous hand drawn murals on the building to set the vibe. When you walked to the front door, they played electronic tribal music (best way to describe it) that we felt like we were entering a tropical resort. All the decor was on point with the tribal theme and the ambiance was on point. As soon as we walked in, the hostess Maryanne opened the doors for us with a warm smile. She gave us a little tour and kept telling us that if we needed anything, to let her know. She sat us at a nice round booth and brought us a booster seat for our toddler. The booth was extremely clean. Our server was Matthew for the night. He was extremely knowledgeable on the menu and really explained everything to us from the cocktail menu to the food menu. He let us know his recommendations and of course we had to follow his word. We started off with the trio salsa and guacamole and chips as well as the citrus pork tacos. Everything was so flavorful. We ordered the skirt steak and the spinalis ribeye cap steak. Both were so tender and fantastic. My toddler couldn't stop poking her fork in my plate to eat more. For sides we ordered the truffle fries which btw was a huge portion as well as the mesquite creamy corn. Everything was so delicious and fresh! The bartender Karl made our drinks and they were absolute delicious. He had a smile on his face the entire time he was working even with a busy bar. All the bartenders in fact were very happy and engaging to their customers. We loved seeing the presentation of each cocktail and seeing the servers push around a cart to do table side service of some of the drinks. It was definitely a little show and our toddler was intrigued. We wish we had enough space for dessert, but that means we'll have to come back another time to try! A little shoutout to the bussers who were super attentive and quick to clear our plates and package up our leftovers. They are the mvps! Mezcal is family friendly and truly an amazing dining experience. We cannot wait to come back! We have been trying for a while to get a reservation for Mezcal for a while as the weekends seem to be booked into the next decade, haha, but my niece finally snagged one for her birthday and asked us to join them. As we pulled up the place kind of looked pretty unremarkable until we pulled around back to the parking area, wow what a difference, beautiful entrance and murals. As we entered we were promptly greeted and shown to our booth. On the way we were given a mini tour of the restaurant and even told where the restrooms were located. I told the hostess that I am very uncomfortable in a booth and was promptly given a chair so I could enjoy my dinner. Out server, Danielle, was working at the booth next to ours, leaned in to greet us and tell us that she would be right with us. Within a few minutes she returned with water and to take our drink order and see if we needed any help with the menu. We took a little bit to get our order together as we were trying to take in the space as it has a lot going on, the decor is beautiful, Danielle was very patient and accommodating. The drinks arrived with much fanfare and smoke, apparently a theme for this place. The drinks were excellent. As this point we placed our appetizer order. By the way, the chips and salsa are excellent and plentiful. We shared a few of the apps which were very tasty and actually better shared as they were almost a dinner portion. We then, after a lot of questions about the menu, ordered dinner and another round of the very tasty drinks. The drinks arrived with another "smoke" show to be followed by our entrees. Everything looked fantastic. Two of us had the rib cap, asked and received cooked to the proper temperatures, rare and mid rare, my niece had ordered Halibut but was informed that they were out of it and asked if they could substitute Monk fish, no problem and she thoroughly enjoyed it. My daughter very much enjoyed her whipped potatoes and filet mignon, again cooked to perfection. My wife very much enjoyed her brisket tacos and I had the best Scallops that I have had in a very long time. We shared fried ice cream and a volcanic display on an order of churros for my nieces birthday, and some us enjoyed some very tasty dessert cocktails. My only complaint is the check, I feel that that it was a little on the steep side, $1000 for six people. But then again you get what you pay for and we did have an enjoyable evening. Unique restaurant that delivers. First, this is really a steak restaurant because the steaks are the show. As for drinks, the menu is extensive, but Tequila is the main attraction. They cut your steak, personally, I like cut my own steak. The roasted corn on the cob is fire! So, in closing, the ambiance is top tier. The food was good. What an experience! We made a reservation in April (for June 27) which was pretty far out.. and the wait was worth it. First let's start with the ambiance. This place is absolutely gorgeous down to the last detail. The art and details around the restaurant sets the vibe right from the start. We came here for my husbands birthday, and every person we spoke to said happy birthday. The host, waiter, food/ drink runners, manager. It's the little things that make the experience that much better. Second is our waiter, Sean. He was absolutely fantastic. Knowledgeable of the food and drink menu, fun, and attentive. He really went above and beyond and it does not go unnoticed. Third is the food. We got the octopus and queso to start, filets for our steak selection and corn, mashed potatoes and Mac and cheese for sides. Definitely comes with a hefty price tag, but is certainly worth it. Of course we had to have a frozen espresso martini for dessert and tried the corn cake. Everything was unbelievably delicious, I truly don't even have any other words. The manager, Eddie, came by for great conversation. We learned a little about the prep and hard work that went into making Mezcal the place it is, and i have to say all that hard work and planning that went into this place paid off. I went here for the first time last weekend with a friend.. And let me tell you about my experience lol. So I walked in on a Sunday night thinking it wouldn't be crowded because it's Sunday... Come to find out everybody in town was there lol. I asked for a table, but it was a 30 minute wait. So then the waiter said we could sit at the bar. The bar was a wayyy better experience ! Shoutout to Nicoli and Kevin .. amazing service. I ordered the salmon, entrée, mac & cheese, and truffle fries. Everything was well seasoned, fresh, and taste amazing. The drinks were just as great. My friend and I arrived 45 minutes before our reservation (totally my fault), and while I was happy to wait at the bar, Alyssa (who was absolutely amazing) worked her magic and found us a table right away. Initially, we were seated in the first room near the bar, which wasn't quite the vibe we were hoping for, so we kindly asked if there was a chance we could move to the other side of the restaurant. Despite how busy it was, Alyssa somehow made it happen again--pure magic. She even offered us a tour of the restaurant, and without hesitation, we said yes--because why not? You can tell so much thought and intention was put into this space. Every single detail was stunning. You could really feel the pride the owner has for what they've created. One of my favorite moments was seeing the Make a Wish Foundation section lit with tea lights. That foundation holds a special place in my heart, so to see it honored like that brought me so much joy. It's a clear sign of where the owner's heart lies, and it made me even prouder to support this place. Now onto the food--exceptional. We started with the "No Bullshit Drink," which was not only delicious but had a presentation that left us speechless. We shared the poblano stuffed pepper, Caesar salad, and those incredible skirt steak tacos--so juicy and flavorful. For our main, we split the bone-in New York Strip with a side of carrots, and finished off with the chocolate mousse dessert. Everything was just wow. But truly, what set this night apart was the service--especially from Alyssa. She's a gem: warm, full of personality, and made us feel completely at home. from start to finish this new upscale mexican is top notch. i cant wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. the menu has a great diverse selection with some great cut steaks. the vibe is great with cool music playing in the background loud enough to enjoy and low enough to hear ur guests speaking. And not a magazine that is like, "ohhh I love that idea" - but a magazine you flip through and envy every detail, design, color, texture, lightening. It'll blow you away. The staff are so welcoming, I wanted to give the hostess stand all hugs!! Professional, knowledgeable and incredibly sufficient. Now. The lead up. The food. I just don't know where to start. Bar - Megan had two margaritas (pictured) and enjoyed them!! They have an insane amount of tequila!! Apps - stuffed poblano pepper, shrimp cocktail, skirt steak tacos, pork taco, queso mexican caesar salad, grilled octopus (scott nor i tried that ) * one was better than the next!! Dinner * we all got steaks, obviously. It's a steakhouse, how could we not. Next time, I'm getting the halibut. Skirt steak with grilled shrimp - au poivre Filet - diablo (crab, asparagus, béarnaise) Tomahawk - garlic anchovie butter Sides * asparagus, esquites, Mac & cheese, truffle fries Barely any leftovers. The presentation was incredible. The tomahawk bone was stamped with the restaurant's name which I think is so fancy! The portions were perfect. I even for probably the first time actually squeezed my lime on some of the dishes and whoa... The flavors of every bite were just so magically amazing!! This was our second time dining at Mezcal. The team that brought you 618 in Freehold has opened a new restaurant in Old Bridge. Mezcal is a cross between a steak house and an upscale Mexican restaurant. It's tough to score a reservation, but you will be in for a treat. From the moment you are greeted by the hostess, to the wait staff, and the table side visits from one of the managers, you are made to feel welcome. Our waitress, Danielle, was friendly, warm, and knowledgable about the menu. There is a great selection of craft cocktails with interesting presentation. My wife had the Despacito and I had the Soon to be Famous. They were both outstanding. For openers we had the guacamole. It was fresh tasting and accompanied by 3 different salsas and a basket of tortilla chips. We also had the stuffed poblano peppers. They had a mild heat and were stuffed with chicken, corn, cheese, and were served with mango relish and a black bean sauce. There were too large peppers. For our entree we split the Spinalis steak. It was perfectly cooked to the desired temperature. For dessert we split the fried ice cream. It was served with chocolate sauce, dulce de leche, whipped cream, and cherries soaked in alcohol.
