Not sure why the reviews are all so high. I would never step in this place again. When we were on a family vacation in Cancun, we all decided to stop in to look at souvenirs to take home. My parents love bringing interesting items back as decorations. My mom also wanted to get something for my niece and nephew. This place is a little too crazy for me and anxiety ridden. If you have anxiety, not the place for you. We had shopkeepers/locals yelling at us. They pulled on us, tried dragging us in their mini shop, followed us, harassed us, and would not leave us alone. We all felt extremely uncomfortable and overwhelmed. Contrary to what people suggest down there, the prices are NOT fair. They constantly sit there and try to change them to make them higher, even when you already see the price in front of your eyes. We were warned about coming here from the front desk of our hotel, which is why we exchanged American cash for pesos. We did not exchange very much, but all shop keepers kept saying "No no no! American cash! American cash!" Quite a few tried ripping my mom off. I'd see the amount in pesos, and calculate it based on the conversion at the time. For example if it ended up being $3 in U.S dollars, they would exclaim it was $10 a piece. They would then say "no no come back come back, deal deal! Okay $30 for 3 shirts! No? Ok $25??" It was insane. My uncle's son is married to a latin woman. She speaks many languages. She started speaking to one of them, telling them how upset she was with the way they wanted to scam us. He claimed he was not and started talking with her, offering her a cheaper price because she was "one of us." (P.S. this is the quote he said). I thought that was ridiculously racist. You look at us. See we are American tourists and try to overcharge us, and then talk with her and offer her the very same price listed under the item. I would constantly sit there and say how much in pesos and they would tell me the U.S. dollar amount every time, overcharging it. I understand these locals want to make some money, but this is not the way to do it. One shop keeper grabbed my 9 year old brother's arm at the time, and tried pulling him in his store. He tried to get him to buy something. Asked him how much money he had, to which he replied none. He kept saying "get your mom." I told him to let go of my brother, and pulled him away. My sisters and I got namecalled and harassed a few times. Some of the people selling items would yell something in Spanish I believe, and the lady with us told us what it meant. They whistled even, and kept saying "oh no come back sexy ladies." I was so disgusted. I do not appreciate being harassed and lied to on prices. Won't ever stop into this market ever again. I did end up buying items on a little island we were dropped off into. It was far poorer and the people were so welcoming and kind. They were fair and gentle. They did not push or harass. They left me alone, which is how I like it. Only one man tried to, and his father stepped in and apologized. Just because someone is a tourist, does not mean you can take advantage of them.

I came here as part of a tour to Tolum Mayan Ruins. This was our meeting point before and after the tour. So it was good to walk through before the tour and see what they had. After the tour, we had time to go souvenir shopping. I purchased a few magnets, a coffee mug and other knick-knacks. They sold t-shirts, clothes, hats, mugs, all sorts of coffee and tequila...all sorts of things. The store was super big. Unfortunately, I did not have time to check any of the other souvenir stores due to a limited amount of time and had to return with the van for our tour. There were 2 ladies making chocolate from cocoa beans. I didn't have time to watch the entire process, but it was sort of cool from the brief amount of time from what I saw.

This shopping mall seems to have had better days. There's a bit of an occupancy problem. It's quiet. However, it feels safe. I saw security wandering around, and there aren't any locals hassling the tourists for change. In the near future, the causeway across the lagoon is going to be completed, and the causeway is going to drop off vehicles right in front of this shopping center. The mall was air conditioned, clean, 80's modern, and safe with mostly middle range shops. The Food court was easy to find. There were a couple sit down restaurants. The rest of us ate Chinese "Cajun" food which is similar to what's offered in all US malls. Everyone was fed for about $35. The food was a little greasy but filling. It had clothes, food, shoes, towels, alcohol, literally EVERYTHING. Like a big ole even cheaper Walmart lol. It can be very packed in the mall and a lot of people just walk right into you. I thought that was weird but hey what can ya do? I'm definitely looking forward to going back and exploring the mall even more.

They have Sombreros for $17! They have beach covers. They have dresses to include white cotton "confirmation" ones. They have lots of ceramics and hot sauce bundles and vanilla in various sizes. They have souvenir magnets. Pretty much if you can imagine it as a souvenir, they have it. And, prices are much more reasonable than at other shops. Who has $10 t-shirts at La Isla? They do! Additionally, they have 2 benches in front of the store with 2 figurines that are good photo spots!

During my visit, a man named Mike, wearing a Walmart name tag, approached us inside the store and offered what he claimed was an official Walmart promotion: * 6 round-trip ferry tickets to Isla Mujeres * A full-day golf cart rental * Lunch on the island * Hotel pickup All for USD $120, with a $30 deposit. He repeatedly assured us that he worked for Walmart, not any resort, and that it was NOT a timeshare sales pitch. However, later that night he messaged us saying the pickup would be changed to 8:00 AM so he could take us to another resort for breakfast -- something we never agreed to. When we insisted on sticking to the original 9:30 AM plan, he showed up the next morning and again pressured us to go to the resort to attend a 1.5-hour presentation, which was obviously a timeshare scheme. When we refused, he told us the trip was canceled and that our $30 deposit was being kept by his "boss." He then claimed we would have to return to Walmart to get it back. Before we could even discuss it further, he jumped onto a bus and disappeared. This was misrepresentation, dishonesty, and a clear scam -- all happening inside Walmart premises, by someone wearing a Walmart name badge. I am requesting: 1. Walmart Cancun to investigate how scammers are operating inside your store while appearing to be legitimate staff. 2. The resort involved to take responsibility for using deceptive tactics to lure tourists into timeshare presentations. 3. A refund of the $30 deposit that was taken under false pretenses. 4. Measures to ensure this does not happen to other visitors. Tourists should feel safe inside a well-known retailer like Walmart -- not targeted by scammers pretending to be staff. I hope both Walmart and the resort take this matter seriously and follow up promptly. Notes: Mike and Mike's Boss pictures

Most stores were a more pleasant place to be able to quietly think and not have to say "no thank you" to every store owner or employee. However, at some stores, we still got aggressive and pushy people who tried to talk us into buying merchandise. Joe K was looking to buy a Mexico Fifa soccer shirt, but he needed a XXXL which never seemed to be available anywhere we looked. One salesperson tried to talk him into a shirt that was made in China. The shirt was obviously too small, but he kept insisting that Joe try it on anyway. I couldn't help but burst out laughing at how snug the shirt fit, when this guy was so desperate to make a sale!
