What i did get was good, drinks were tasty and a fair amount of alcohol in the margaritas. The chips and dip on the beginning of the meal was soso...dip had little flavor (jar?) my boyfriend and I have a routine mexican restaurant we go to quite often, however one night we wanted to try a new place that's a little closer to us so that we could have a quick bite and go home. I won't say I was completely disappointed because the food was fantastic. It was fresh and we were a big fan of the salsa & queso! unfortunately, our service was oddly slow. I'm not normally picky, and try to give the benefit of the doubt, especially considering I have been a server before. It took 15-20 minutes to even get our waters on the table which was a bad start in general. our food did come our relatively quickly but our waitress wasn't very attentive and only checked on us once. Thank goodness for a "Mexican" restaurant that serves big flavor. Too many are dumbed down. I made a mistake by using the salsa roja before tasting the entrée. I don't know what spicy heat came from what part of the dish. It was very spicy but, for the pepper lovers out there, you can actually taste jalapeños. I dislike heat for the sake of heat. Definitely one of the better Mexican restaurants in the Savannah area! We had them on our list for quite a while and were in the area so we stopped in for a late lunch. The atmosphere is inviting especially the large mural that adds a nice flair to this clean and trendy restaurant (that also has outdoor seating). We ordered a small guacamole dip to add to the complimentary fresh salsa and chips. Their standard guacamole was good but not exceptional. We both decided to try their tacos and I went with the al pastor tacos and my wife tried their tacos tapatios which came with three of each. I had the flour tortillas which were fresh and tasty with large chunks of pineapple and grilled seasoned pork. They both came with a very nice green salsa that added additional flavor. My wife's steak, Mexican cheese, onion, avocado tacos were well seasoned on a fresh and tasty corn tortilla (also very good!). The service was good, keeping up with my tea and food was promptly delivered. I Food - 4.5 - What we had was very flavorful! The guacamole not so much but fine. Service- 4 - Good, Friendly no complaints Atmosphere 4 - Nice clean and with Mexican flair Price - 4.5- Good value for the food we received. OA 4.5 - I will be back, but I have a couple of downsides. We went during dinner time, which was also happy hour time (4-7pm). The margaritas were $1.99 during this time. It must have been the beginning of happy hour because it was not that busy, however, it started to pick up when we were about to leave. The first flavor margarita I tried was strawberry, but I don't know if it was because it was in a hard plastic cup or if there was just not enough ice to cool it, the strawberry flavor tasted like cough syrup. So I just asked to swap it for another flavor and ended up with the good ole lime flavor. We ordered a side of guacamole, and they make it fresh right in front of you! When it came time to order, I ordered the baked potato fajita with chicken and it was supposed to shrimp added, but the young lady must not have gotten confused or just did not hear me; which was fine because she didn't charge me for it. But I feel the shrimp would have probably given the dish that pop of flavor I was looking for. So the only reason they are getting four stars and not five is because the ratio of vegetables to meat was definitely not in favor of balance. There was way more vegetables than meat, and the split potato was a bit dry and no seasoning, which I'm sure if they put just a little more meat and cheese on the dish it would have compensated for all the fresh vegetables flavor that over powered the dish in the end. The queso was delicious. The service was just okay, missing basic things like napkins. I had their margarita; it tasted a bit funny but good overall. I ordered my food to go. Unfortunately, no napkins or plastic utensils. I asked for sour cream to go. I had to pay extra for it which was no big deal except for the fact that I also ordered rice with my black beans, but I didn't get it. So missing rice, yet asked to pay extra for sauce. We ordered a steak quesadilla, molcajete which was not spicy in the least( much appreciated) and the barbacoa tacos ( those were exceptional) with elotes. This place will mess up your to go order 100% of the time. It's is literally a guarantee. We have gotten to go from here several times and it has never been right once. Everything from them just not including certain dishes and/or sides that we ordered, to them giving our food to someone else who was picking up before us. Decided to give MexiCali Fresh a chance since I'm always in the area. My mother and I came in around 7:00 pm for dinner on a Friday night. As we walked up nothing really screamed exciting until we walked in the door. The decor had a subtle modern Mexican feel. With a large mural to the right, behind the hostess stand. For the holidays the restaurant had a decorated Christmas tree (I thought this was a cute touch). We were seated within 5 minutes arrival. Very impressive for a payday Friday. As we walked to our seat we noticed that the restaurant had a children's play area. This really wowed me, because I know parents struggle with deciding to go out to eat due to their children. However, this restaurant decided to remove the stress from parents by giving the kids a place of their own. Our waiter's name was Christian and let me say... this young man did an excellent job! I've never been to a restaurant where the staff was so attentive, and not in a bothersome way. Awesome job and I hope this young man receives his accolades. For an appetizer we ordered the Bowl of Guacamole. Must I let everyone know that this dish is great, but I should warn you all that it carries a punch. There is jalapeño peppers laced in the guacamole so be prepared. For my entree I ordered the Enchiladas Verde and my Mother order the Mexicali Salad. The Enchiladas Verde were full of flavor but it did lack verse. The restaurant seemed to have drizzled a small amount of sauce on top and that was about it. Nonetheless the flavors were all there. The Arroz Rojo was good, but it was very reminiscent of shrimp fried rice and then the side salad came with sour cream and more of the guacamole). Great job! My mother's meal also passed her expectations. However, if you are looking for a true salad this might not be the most nutritious. The salad had a small amount of lettuce buried beneath the chicken, but we weren't disappointed because everything was seasoned so well. Overall this restaurant deserves an A. The service was phenomenal, the management cares (I appreciated seeing management coming on the floor and helping where they can), the food was filling and a great portion, the restaurant is clean, and the children's play room is a phenomenal touch.
