We had looked at a variety of companies to remodel our master bath. Some were tile and fixture stores, and the displays were dusty and dirty. A couple of places the starting price was way to high for the work we were looking to get done. We stopped in at the Annandale Metropolitan Bath and Tile store with low expectations. We were surprised that the displays were all clean and neat. The salesman we talked with was knowledgeable about their products and process. We ended up scheduling him to come to our house to measure and discuss what we wanted done. Not long after that meeting we went back to the showroom to select actual products and get an estimated price for the job. The salesman/designer helped us pick out the materials for the project and made several suggestions that we liked and incorporated into the project. We came out of that meeting with a design, list of tile, grout, fixtures, cabinetry and a tentative work plan. After reviewing the contract at home we placed the deposit. The work was done on schedule and the few complications discovered in the demolition phase resulted in minor design changes that did not increase the cost. We did add to the scope of work after the project started, which resulted in additional costs that we felt were reasonable and still within our budget. They did not start till they had all needed materials in house which allowed them to move the project forward without delays. They also took time to lay tarps on the floors from the front door to the entrance to the bathroom each day, pick them up each evening and in general did a great job of keeping the house clean during the entire project. It's been six months since the work was completed and I remain very pleased with the company and their work on this project. read more

From the first meeting to the last lighting fixture, this bathroom renovation could not have gone better. We needed to renovate our 30-year-old, builder-grade hall bath, which was oddly L-shaped with a cabinet sticking out into the middle of the room. First we met with Tom, who was not just a measurer and estimator; he had a designer's mind and was the only person who saw different possibilities -- like, don't just leave or remove the cabinet, *move* it to a recessed nook behind the door, borrowing just 6 inches of the adjacent linen closet to make it work. Genius! Next we met with Stacey in the showroom. She patiently spent half an afternoon with us reviewing finishes and colors, working with us to incorporate hand painted ceramic tiles we had brought with us. She was so creative and thoughtful, and also worked with us on a budget that made sense. When construction time came, they provided the very best. I cannot say enough great things about William, who did almost EVERYTHING himself (except drywall and paint), from tiles and re-installation of that cabinet and a new vanity, to plumbing and electrical work. He made helpful suggestions (and was always right), and was a perfectionist when it came to details. What's more, he finished the job ahead of schedule -- even with an intervening snow day! The last time we renovated a bathroom, several years ago, the other company had multiple different people working on different aspects of the job and the project was delayed by 2 months. I asked these people to come into my home. I needed a new bath tub. Mine was from 2020 and was a lemon. This gentleman came into my house and told me everything I already knew. The tub was too big, it leaked and could not be easily replaced. He told me he could not give me an estimate, but if I went to the showroom and chose my replacement right then and there, I would get a 25% discount. Otherwise I could not get any discount. This is the stereotypical general contractor experience. Change any little thing and you will pay for it. Prices are about 2-3 time more than what you will pay to any small contractor with a good reputation who has worked in your area. Got a quote to remodel a master bathroom from them for about $60,000. Hired a local contractor to do the exact same work, with major enhancements and the price came in at $22,000. Shop around. read more

Will start off by saying that we went to MBT for a 2nd opinion as the home remodeler that redid our kitchen with an addition quoted a very high price to totally redo a basement bathroom. MBT designer Cloud (yes, that is his name) came in and assessed and listened attentively to what our vision was. He took some measurements and came back and said: "Yup, I have to agree with their price, due to the complexities of redoing a basement bathroom that A) was done in the 1950s B) has old school tile and C) the old school ceramic glazed iron tub. After some discussion we did a rough design of the master bathroom that was next on our list. Cloud was EXTREMELY patient as we picked out materials and even worked with us when we wanted something custom done with some fancy 'imported' tiles. We had the master bathroom totally redone (stripped to the studs) for half the price of the basement redo. Cloud was METICULOUS in our measurements and design. He ended up saving us at least $3K by suggesting other better alternatives than the high end stuff we wanted (he pointed out that the specifics would be hard to keep clean, the labor costs alone would be significant, and other interesting facts). Cloud personally insured that everything was done 'high end' and top quality. Even though our remodel took a bit longer (our project manager had a preplanned vacation right in the middle of the build and as it was COVID we didn't want to go with another person coming in. Then the project manager notices that the high end sink had a 'chip' in it, so we had to wait for the sink to be replaced. But all in all a VERY VERY easy and outstanding experience. Every single person we interacted with was BEYOND accommodating and professional. We will ABSOLUTELY be using them again! highly highly recommend. read more

First the positives.Metropolitan Bath is extremely well organized and responsive. The designer was very knowledgeable & helpful. She understood what I had in mind. The negative is the exorbitant price. Our main bathroom is not large. I intended to keep the double vanity ,cabinet & newly installed commode in place. Thus the plumbing was minimal.The plan was to replace the tub shower combo with a walk-in shower& tile the bathroom & shower area. I was told Metropolitan does not remove wallpaper or paint. The estimate came back at $29,000.00!!!! I can only think that they did not want to do the job. I also understand that their advertising costs are very high . I held off on writing this review until the contractor I used completed the remodeling for much less & did a beautiful job! Granted I had to go to an excellent tile / plumbing store where the designer was extremely helpful. If you want a one stop shop Metropolitan is for you.However if you do not want to overpay for convenience go elsewhere. read more

Posting this as a warning to all who listen to the advertisement from Metropolitan Bath & Tile where they say "no job is too small". After calling the number I was eventually connected to Ji, who asked me to send him pictures of the problem. The problem was some small leaks from a shower door, and some caulk that would attract mold over a few months. He called back and said I need to order some items from another company, and that they would install those to fix the leak, and recaulk the area. The technician they sent spent three hours working on the problem, and when leaving showed me the fix, and said to leave the door open and not use the shower for a day. Four days later we used the shower and find that the door no longer closes unless someone puts their foot on it from the outside. Unless this is done, the door leaks profusely, rendering the shower unusable. Metropolitan sent out another person who informed us that one of the pieces was installed incorrectly, and that a hinge was broken, which was why the door will not close correctly. He said a part was needed, even though the original work was not on the hinge. After not hearing back from Metropolitan, I reached out. The call back was to essentially say they cannot find that part and unless I have detailed specs on it, not much they could do. NOTE: The shower door closed before they repair - but after their work it no longer closes correctly. After escalating this issue I have been asked to send more pictures in so they can consult with shower door experts. We will see where this ends up, but I do not have a good feeling. That stems from knowing that one of the first things said to me as explanation of what they would do after I escalated, was to point out the part of the contract that allows them to avoid any liability for any part of the project that was pre-existing. Not sure that applies to areas that should not have been touched during the project, but that was their stance. Buyer beware is always true, and Metropolitan Bath and Tile is also a reminder that truth in advertising is subjective. They say "no job too small", and it is totally my fault for assuming that meant that small jobs would be done well. read more

We didn't get work completed or contract with them to do the work. I am sure their quality of work is fine. I am disappointed with the experience to get a quote and unrealistic quote. Their price quote was 3x any other quote (it was around $150k, while the others we got were 40-60k). I also hate places that make you go to a showroom, pick options, and sign on the spot. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. They won't provide you with an estimate until you show up at a showroom with your spouse and pick out options to try to sucker you into their business. I want 90 minutes of my life back, but also want to warn any one else looking to use this company - get other quotes! read more

Last year I trashed Metropolitan on Yelp because the mirrors that that they had installed had repeatedly delaminated and the sink had become seriously discolored. Metropolitan's design and workmanship seemed fine but the quality of the products that they had sold us seemed so poor that we were totally unsatisfied with the job. Metropolitan reached out to us and promised to make things right. In late winter they installed new mirrors and a new sink. Now, three months later. these products appear to be holding up quite well and I am hopeful that the bathroom will remain attractive and up-to-date. If you decide to go with MB&T, make sure you read the contract or have an attorney review the contract. I say this because I thought that our contract included a heated towel rack and that diamond floor tiles were included. The heated towel rack was not in the contract so it never was installed. The diamond floor tiles were a small up charge which is okay but we paid a lot of money for bathrooms that were paint-ready status. The workmanship was excellent and two years down the road there are zero defects or issues but bottom line is we paid way too much for a bathroom that is fairly basic. If I could rate negative Stars, I would. Called 3 times over 2 week period. Never got a return call. Their commercial claims that they use the best materials. I called to ask what brands of materials they used for substrate under the tile for wet locations. No response! I guess they're just not interested in doing business. I found Metropolitan Bath & Tile on Houzz and was pleased with the reviews I saw there, so I put them on my short list of companies that I wanted to consider. Unfortunately I found out there that I can't use them for my bathroom renovation since they don't service condos in downtown DC. (Can't blame them. DC is awful.) However, I had an exceptionally good experience in their showroom and therefore felt compelled to write a review. They were friendly, took their time, offered excellent suggestions, and were well versed in design and current trends. Plus their showroom, despite being small, has a wide array of material samples and several bathroom mockups to give you ideas. I can't comment on the criticisms made by other reviewers, but if I lived in Virginia or Maryland, I would definitely be giving them a shot. read more

Outrageously expensive! I received five estimates for a bathroom remodel including one from Metropolitan Bath & Tile. I fully expected them to be the best value for my money based on their marketing efforts which focuses solely on bathroom remodeling ("It's WHAT we do....it's ALL we do!"). I was shocked when I received their estimate which was $16,000 greater than any of the other estimates! And, their estimate did not include as much work as any of the other four (i.e. they wanted to place a new tile floor on my existing tile floor, the price of the frameless shower was not included in the estimate, they did not include painting the walls, etc.)!! Additionally, they have a peace of mind price guarantee which they say guarantees that their prices will be equal or less than any other qualified contractor's price on the same project. Good luck with that.....they would not meet the price of my documented estimates because of their subjective opinion that my other estimates did not have equally qualified contractors. I have since chosen a very reputable kitchen and bathroom remodeler (4.9 on yelp reviews, 5.0 on houzz reviews) and saved myself a LOT of money. I could not be more dissatisfied with the start-up process with Metro Bath & Tile. They demonstrated really bad customer service. Despite my repeated calls, they took 18 days to get an estimate to me and when I got the estimate it was a brief email that was written on an iPhone. Don't do it..!!! They'll tell you that they can do anything you want, but when you make a deposit and sign the contract, that's when you find out all the things they can't do. You have three days to back out of the contract, but they'll schedule your session outside that time frame, so if you want to cancel because you've discovered that they're unable to accommodate your ideas, you forfeit your deposit. That's what happened to us. Fortunately, we found a marvelous contractor who was able to accommodate everything we wanted - unlike Metropolitan Bath and Tile..!!! read more
